I honestly dont see any fighter 168 beating him past present or future. Ward is a decent talent, but there is no way he could keep up with Joe''s workrate, or land enough punches to win rounds.
Roy would have the best shot because of his power but Joe is an even more focused fighter coming off the canvas.
says it all.
Yep that clip shows what Slapper Cal was all about , he was a UK closet hype job that was protected all his career until the end when the main guys were way past their best , if he had of came to the US early he would have got beat , his resume as a whole is pitiful when you look at the timing of his name opponents , from a retired and come backing Eubanks to way past it Hopkins and Jones , cherry picking in boxing is rife with fighters outside the US , they import a bunch of shot names and build a hype job out of it .
none of us would, apart form the fat old ref in the GIF in the post above, who has an apparent iron chin taking Joe's best shot like it was a fly -
you are right. none of us would last a round.
700 + punches and you cant win a fight properly agaisnt a 40something, thats a sign of abject failure, tbh. Thats not far off putting a championship rower in the ring, who can flail all night with his arms but never hit anything.
Calzaghe won on the cards by a whisker but theres no doubt nearly all of his output were touches, not punches. The only reason Bernard didnt win is his lack of activity in the 2nd half of the fight, not for anything that Calzaghe did.
the only reason he didn't win was because it was rigged. the judges were giving rounds like 2 and 3 to calzaghe when he didn't land anything clean and was dominated. it was fixed from the start. nothing besides a ko for hopkins wins it for him.

As for the people calling him 'slappy', I guarantee none of you would last a round with him, even today.
Calzaghe threw 700+ punches to B-Hop's 468, Calzaghe also landed at a higher rate. JC even had time to simulate buggery on the executioner amongst the festivities, so no, I personally don't think he was particularly slowed down (Cortez allowing 'Hop to hang on and fake low-blows was the only thing that slowed him down).
Regarding Ward, much depends on the reffing. Forced to fight on the outside, I think Calzaghe is the superior pure boxer. If Ward has license to maul on the inside, then he probably takes it over 12.

believe me my man, he deserves it. and yea he is the quintessential definition of a flomo thing that you keep hearing about...
:lol1: at you completely missing the point he was making.
He was criticizing Floyd from what I can see.
They actually record that as 12 punches thrown...
I mean honestly, there is one actual punch in there.
yes indeed. 12 punches thrown and prob like 5 landed according to our lord and savior compubox. when in reality hopkins was the only one who landed there. the story of the fight but i guess some people like making up their own stories.
someone already beat me to the manfredo gif! i know.....

Regardless of how many Cal-slappy people I come across, I always say who could beat the slappy punches??
Joe Calzaghe's work rate is what I enjoyed. I personally think Joe's talent was wasted in part by staying in the UK exclusively. Sure he was in the USA for his last 2 fights, but, imagine if he would have come here in the middle of his career? He would have become a world attraction on PPV.
Its a shame really. The world never got to see the best Calzaghe on the big stage against the most dominant fighters of his era.
Calzaghe was a joy to watch, because his opponents would always make fun of his punches and how they were slappy - come fight night you'd watch Joe KO 'em in spectacular fashion. They never had any shit to say post fight though. haha lol.
hopkins beat him, calzaghe couldn't land anything so how could you say he won? surely you don't think missing punches is a scoring criteria? also robin reid has a strong case for winning. basically anyone who uses movement and doens't just stand there with concrete feet has a chance. Then again bika beat him up and forced him to hold on for dear life because of his inside game, so anyone who is good at fighting on the outside or anyone that is good at fighting on the inside can beat him.
calzaghe said he was scared of flying
yeah that's what happened....
@Dazed
Insecure internet kids get so caught up in worshipping only the very best ever and are so quick to call a top guy trash just because one or two guys could possibly beat him in a different era. I find most of his fights (save for the ugly Hopkins one) to be fun as hell to watch. They have a cinema-like quality to them in that he had this unbreakable will to win and just flooded his opponents with workrate. I don't care what any hater says, they're not diminishing my enjoyment of those fights one bit.
