Most of Cotto's fan base in New York are American with Puerto Rican born parents similar To Danny. Can Garcia grab some of that fan base? Can he be a Puerto Rican version of Oscar De La Hoya?
No Danny will never be a superstar. He is the PR version of Tim Bradley. Sorry to say it and he seems like a nice kid, but he just does not have "IT". You need an "IT" factor to be a superstar. Fighters like Floyd, Pac, RJJ, Bhop, ODLH, Judah, etc. have an IT factor. Fighters like Dawson, Garcia, Bradley, etc. do not. There is really nothing they can do about it to be honest, they just do not have that superstar quality. As far as Danny, he is a good fighter, but does nothing "great". Whether you love/hate Pac, Floyd, Cotto, Bhop, etc....they are all great at certain things or have something intangible that makes them a superstar. Danny will never be one, no matter who he beats sorry. He is just not a dynamic fighter. I mean maybe something will happen to change that? Not sure but as of right now no he will never have popularity like Cotto.
Maybe that's whats makes him special the fact that he doesn't do anything special yet he keeps winning so as long as he keeps winning people will be very interested in watching this kid.
Cotto has lost 4 times and he still the 3rd biggest draw in the sport. You understimating how loyal the fan base is.
thats not right, the klitschkos are a bigger draw i thought. as is mayweather and pacquiao.
i also thought garcia was born in america?
He's not being marketed as a Puerto Rican fighter and that's probably the biggest roadblock to him right now. I don't necessarily buy that it's the fans who won't "accept" him. Fernando Vargas is a Mexican-American and he was accepted (albeit briefly) by Mexican fans at the outset, culminating in huge support against rivals Trinidad and, of course, the "fake Mexican." in fact, at one point I think Vargas was referring to himself as the real Mexican, even though he represented the U.S. in the Olympics :lol1:.
In order to become a star, Garcia would have to continue to win impressively (no easy task), form a steady base (Puerto Rican and/or Black) and then find a rival (Rios?).
Depends on how the Puerto Ricans treat Rican-Americans I guess.
In Mexico for example, no one pays attention to the Mexican-Americans. They're considered "fake" Mexicans down here.
How are the Ricans about this whole situation?

EXCELLENT POST!!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself.
lol, i am a rios fan but you know its true, lol, i bet the ricans on the island hate rios right nowcause he is loud and arrogant, lol, he will never become a oscar or trinindad but a win vs rios is a step in the right direction for dannys career, lol,
angel garcia can cause major damage if danny loses a fight where angel talks sh1t about a fighter that danny loses to, danny should fire his dad or tell his dad to quiet down someday
Angel Garcia, by being who he is, is actually helping Danny become a star.
even the puerto ricans dont really like him that much, lol, juanma and vazquez jr were better as future stars for the ricans, lol, danny garcias fanbase will have to be the hip hop fanbase and most people that follow hip hop(culture) dont follow boxing, lol, they follow casual sports like football and basketball, lol, if you can get the actual mexicans or real island puerto ricans to like garcia, lol, garcia might be a star but he doesnt have the right support in the hip hop community so he will be just like a american rican version of zab judah
This is where your wrong, who do you think follows Mayweather??Young hipsters(not to say older folks don't like May as well),or people from an urban background..Garcia imo has this same appeal,he is young and speaks well..Not a big trash talker(he let's his father handle that)nice clean cut good looking kid...The Porta rocks will ride with Garcia if he keeps winning, cause he is one of them(no matter what fam)..But he has way more crossover appeal then either Vazquez or JML...
I mean Garcia can get fans Cotto can't..Majority of Cotto fans are ricans, Garcia can get youth in general, but he has to hold up his end of the deal, which is to keep winning...

He has the potential to be. It remains to be seen. Danny is gonna be in some deep waters if he can get past Judah.
There's many tests ahead. Matthysse, Rios, Broner (once he moves up). There are fighters which I feel he could beat like PEDerson, Rios, Cuenca, Khan (rematch)
:lol1:
Cuenca is trash regardless what his misleading record says.
he been envious and projecting since the Fresh Prince days...
i guess philly is the new floyd mayweather of NSB...
Earl, if you want a cheesesteak, its just a short plane ride away...
:lol1::lol1:
how many times have you typed the word "Philly" today?!? :lol1:

Garcia can be a superstar in NY because he is hood and very urban...Blacks and Ricans will fucck with Garcia...He has Philly and gaining steam in NY...Danny can be a star in the sport...
thats real talk!!!

in terms of the boxing world superstar I think he already is. if you mean superstar as in the floyds mannys cotto's i say he has a chance if he keeps winning. wonder if he would be hated or loved hard say because of his dad which at times I find funny and other times annoying
dannys dad is gonna wind up make you dislike danny lol, you already insinuating some of this without saying it
