I know you have to take everything De La Hoya says with a grain of salt but I just ran across this tweet.....
@OscarDeLaHoya Congratulations to Robert Guerrero for being fighter of the year 2012
Me personally GTFOH
He beat two top ten welterweights in one year. That good but not really anything special. Donaire, Garcia, Marquez, and Ward are all more deserving of fighter of the year.
I would had said Brian Viloria but his victory of Segura was late on 2011.
Nonito is a better choice than RG. Guerrero is a good fighter and did impressively coming up two weight classes.
Nonito just dominated most of his matches and was more active
if donaire fought a guy like mares, lol, maybe donaire but to me i prefer guerrero for really going way up in weight classes against really bigger guys, lol, donaire fought undersized guys
Mares will be an easy fight for Donaire! Short guy with a short arms & an average puncher is a recipe for a beatdown from Donaire!
Donaire weigh less than Arce at fight night!

If it's true Then I'll say. F@CK you DE la Hoya!! I will never ever buy your *** Magazine!!
It should Between Donaire & Marquez, But Donaire's much busier while fighting top Fighters back to back, He should get it via Landslide! This will encourage top fighters to fight more to get the award!
Is anybody familiar with this writer? It's a Southern Cali newspaper and you can see the bias:
No doubt, Guerrero is the Fighter of the Year for 2012.
Others who had a good year were Brandon Rios, Danny “Swift” Garcia, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, Abner Mares, Andre Ward and Nonito Donaire.
Rios? Bradley? Ward? No mention of Marquez? SMH

I think he deserves it. Moved up 2 weight divisions, no tuneup, no fight in 1.5 years, coming off of shoulder surgery, beats a KO king title holder, then beats the guy HBO was portraying as "the guy" to beat in his next fight........Guerrero was an underdog in both fights too.
These guys weren't smaller than him or older than him either.
Personally I think he'd deserve it. I've been gone for a while but I was thoroughly impressed by the beating he handed Berto. (Who is usually known as 1 of the bigger, stronger welterweights).
He'll nah! Just because he beat berto he wins fighter of the yr.? Brah! You got Donaire who fought 4 times this year. He dominated Mathebula took his ibf belt and knocked out Nishioka then super bantamweight ring titleist. He also fought Vaquez jr. And Arce. Then you also have Marquez, but Donaire deserves it most.
also add to the fact that donaire became the first boxer to do REAL olympic style testing which is 24/7/365 a year..that should have to count for something since he's helping to try and lead by example and ultimately clean up the sport.
I think that's good and all.... But I don't think that should be a factor on who wins FOTY
How so though? Donaire beat the #1 at JFW, Nishioka, Mathebula, a champion, Vazquez Jr., not a great win, but for his first fight at the weight not bad, and Arce, a money grab and an uncompetitive fight from the moment it was signed.
Aydin, Berto < Nishioka, Mathebula, Vaszquez Jr., Arce
Guerrero had a good year, but not a fighter of year campaign IMO.

The craziest thing is how berto is held at such a high standards and over hyped
Wins over him get you a fight with Floyd and FOTY? Cmon
well it would have made some sense when berto was still undefeated and the champ...but the berto that guerrero beat was pretty much irrelevant in the ww division. guerrero being awarded FOTY is about as ridiculous as having broner as top 5 p4p in the world.
he's more deserving then doanire IMO

Props to Robert Guerrero for wanting to fight the best, moving up two weight divisions, taking on a heavy hitter like Berto and taking some solid shots. His efforts do not merit fighter of the year though.
