Larry has covered all the great fights from Sal Sanchez to Pac/Marquez 4, Sometimes he seemed like he had too many vodka shots but he had great insight and provided killer commentary at the right time "and sometimes not so killer", but usually really good analogies and commentary at the right time! and I think that is really going to be missing. But the dude is 81 years old! Max used to be really good on FnF but he has kind of faltered on HBO and I hope he gets his **** together. Roy Jones and Lampley are really the only hope.
not at all, cant wait till Lampley is gone too
co-sign. there's no doubt they're both legendary, but they've been past their best days for a while now. i haven't been interested in listening to either guy for some time now. roy jones is the best on that network. i hope they give him some more gigs from now on.
Larry is God. He has been a big part of what has made HBO boxing so great for all of these years. I get that some of you young kids who have been watching boxing for like five years or less hate him for speaking his mind, but again, nobody cares what you think. Larry knows more about boxing than most anyone, and he loves the sport. It was his time to call it a day I will admit, but I will miss his insights, wit, and willingness to say what's on his mind. HBO without Larry and Emmanual will never be the same. Once Jim and Hearald go its going to be tough on a lot of us old schoolers. Again, Larry is God. Bow down.
I imagine 99% of people who have been watching Larry for a very long time (ie 20+ years, even since 1977) will miss his commentary.
Mayweather fans who have only been watching him for the past 6-7 years when he has been past his peak, and know him most for conflicts with Mayweather, won't miss him.
Not at all Im stoked he is going I just wish it had happened earlier!! I always thought he was a boring old fool who took way to long to ask questions!!!
i feel like hbo commentating is going to be a little bland without larry's commentating...
enjoy your retirement larry..**** the haters...
"all champions have egos. but if ego was a crime, prince would be on death row" - larry merchant ...lmao....
I won't now days he is just like the angry old guy yelling to get off his lawn
hahaha.
I guess I am going to miss him because when I think of him I associate him with the sport I love. I never really thought he was a good analyst either now that I think of it. I do not think I am going to miss him but once he gone I might who knows. One thing I respected him for was asking fighters tough questions but Max Kellerman does a pretty good job of that now.
I like Max Kellerman..I know many aren't too fond of his over dramatic and sometimes biased reviews..but he knows his sh*t..
I think Paulie meshes better with HBO cast than Showtimes..Showtime needs Tarver back..
Not at all. He fulfilled a position with a company who is at the forefront of boxing and he was never anything special. I am looking forward to a new, and hopefully better, commentator.
