This was a good thing for boxing. Saturday is a big sports day so more than likely a lot of people tuned in. Santa Cruz has an exciting style with his high work rate, so id say it was a win for boxing and hopefully more cards will be aired in the coming months.
Amongst the general public, not very much. This site is hardcore boxing fans so not representative amongst casual fans or the general public.
In the US not much is on TV during saturday night as that is usually when people go out. Not everyone goes to bars and clubs but even just restaurants and movies. Thats why NFL is on sunday and monday. Now of course boxing doesnt want to compete with the NFL either. But probably not too many people caught boxing just channel surfing either.
Stupid Dana white likes to put on UFC fights during boxing events so boxing should reverse that and put on network boxing during UFC fights that are on network TV. Because then you might get some guys catching the boxing while channel surfing during commercials. Beat him at his own game. It will have to be boxers who like to trade like angulo or something to get the UFC crowd into it though.
Otherwise I think the only people who will know its even on TV will be the hardcore fans who keep up with boxing on the internet.
Maybe they should try to get some boxing on during the week days but it might be hard with all of the prime time TV shows filling the slots.
Some people are saying the fight was trending world wide and briefly up top on twitter but I haven't seen anything. Anyone else have an idea?
yeah i saw snata cruz was trending on twitter usa for a min but mainly bc the media was talking not ppl
I thought they were going to take over boxing according to Bob Arum when HBO refuse to buy the Pacquiao-Mosley fight and showtime picked it up, whatever happen with that?
And NBC's Fight Night is barely promoted. I think the fact Boxing is gonna be on CBS again for the first time in 15 years, will be good for boxing despite the lack of promotion. CBS/Showtime are sister networks, so im sure there will be some tie-ins and whatnot.
I'm expecting the boxing is dead crowd to jump all over this. Oscar should be punched in the face.
why?
this is the 2nd Network to air Boxing (other than ESPN). NBC's Fight Night has been going pretty strong all year. Havent read anythign about it having crappy ratings or anything.
They got Adamek/Cunningham II airing on NBC next week.
its quite sad, De La Hoya once appeared on CBS.
I have not seen a single promo for this at all. I barely just found out. I credit UFC for actually knowing how to market undercards on primetime tv. They show there undercards on FX and crap. (FYI I Hate UFC but there marketing is on point).
NBC Fight Night is barely advertised too.
0 Buzz.......
I'm excited for it because I followed a lot of those Olympians careers for awhile, guys like Marcus Browne and Erroll Spence Jr and I Like Leo Santa Cruz as well
Kinda confused though, which fights will be shown on CBS is still unclear, I know Santa Cruz and Joseph Diaz Jr for sure but not sure if it will be any other fights
I've been told they advertised during NFL matches but I don't know how strong it was. Was told right now CBS just plugged an ad for boxing up for a 30 min lead in.
Oh, really? Well that's huge then.
I just turned to CBS about 15 minutes ago and so far haven't seen or heard anything regarding the card yet.
