Case for each myth being debunked.....
Taylor went on to win the WW title from the 5th ranked WW in Aaron Davis and made 2 defenses of his title with one of those defenses coming against top 10 WW Glenwood Brown before running into Terry Norris... If Taylor stayed at 47 he would have fared better in match ups there (Blocker,McGirt,Brown etc) opposed to fighting Norris
Leonard offered Pryor 500,000 to fight him but he (Pryor) turned the offer down saying he wanted more money.... Dave Jacobs (Pryors trainer) even said they preferred to stay at 140 and focus on the JWW and LW divisions where Pryor was simultaneously ranked
Thoughts???
Very Simply put, Aaron Pryor was not a force til Leonard retired with a detached Retina. Leonard retired in 82' before Pryor became a star by beating Alexis Arguello. By the time Leonard returned to fight Hagler, Pryor's run was already over.
I do think the loss to Chavez hurt Taylor, but Taylor looked very good beating Aaron Davis for the WBA 147 belt after that. It probably did Taylor more harm moving up to face Terry Norris because after that he was pretty much through. He dropped back down to 147 and was knocked out by C. Espana in his next fight.
Taylor would have ended up being a ATG had he not ran into Chavez IMO
Doubt it, we all so what Pernell did with Chavez. Medrick just wasn't slick enough, and liked to bang too much for a guy without much pop, it was going to catch up with him sooner or later.
Taylor was never that good. If he was boxing today people would put him in the same category as Khan and Judah etc. Athletic and fast but not a great fighter.
Leonard did NOT duck Pryor. He offered him a career high payday. I always hear Leonard was ducking Hagler too, no way. That's like saying Floyd is ducking Sergio, who's 2 weight classes bigger in size of the fighters themselves.
taylor being ruined by chavez is not a myth, he was never the same after that fight, probably more mentally than physically atleast initially. As for his brain damage that is probably more from sparring sessions than just a single pro fight, chavez or not. But I think the experience of giving everything only to be stopped like that at the end messed him up mentally.
Leonard ducking pryor is a joke. Leonard fought how many guys who were bigger and better than pryor? thats what I thought. Pryor couldnt be bothered to move his ass up to 147 and make a statement. His big win was over a former 126 guy where he had to take some kind of strange substance to win on top of that. Guy is overrated and didnt challenge himself.
Okies. Now that I've got some asperin in me.....
Leonard offered Pryor what would have been a career high payday: PRYOR turned it down. Moreover Pryor hadn't down anything at that weight to represent any real threat to Leonard.
Taylor won the WBA Welterweight title 10 months after the Chavez fight and made three successful defenses before dropping belt via brutal beating to Terry Norris. So clearly his career wasn't "ruined" by Chavez.....though an argument COULD be made that his career was ruined by Terrible Terry.

That I agree with....
I can see Mosley beating Malignaggi for a world title, that wouldn't mean he wasn't shot to pieces
Aaron Davis>Paulie Malignaggi
Mark Breland>Vyacheslav Senchenko
Legendary Nights strikes again :rolleyes9:
