I'd go with Marquez.
Marquez beating Pacquiao > beating Nishioka, Mathebula, Arce, and Vazquez Jr
I thought it would be a slam dunk for Donaire after he put a beating on Nishioka, but I never expected Marquez to stop Manny.
Why would it not be candidate for FOTY? Cant name too many other fights that had as much action this year.
Put it this way, Berto put up more fight and has a higher profile than all 3 of the guys Nonito beat put together. That quality win means more than 3 "meh" wins.
Doesn't matter anyway though because Marquez is going to take it.
Strictly due to HBO..... Have you seen his resume???
It is not candidate for FOTY, lets be real :lol1:
Berto severely underperformed, just let Guerrero push him around the ring like a little rag doll. He did more to survive then he did to actually win
And that fight being one sided has as much to do with nishioka underperforming as Donaire being that good
Not sure why it matters how exciting the fight was, which makes it a better win

donaire's best win of the year was nishioka in his last fight. nishi looked awful. he hardly threw a shot.
he's a puncher, and two of his opponents went he distance.
matawhola?
vasquez JR?
jorce arce's corpse, coming off of a fight where he quit? (he had a tune up against a journeyman in mexico, but before that he quit in a fight on a ppv undercard in which he was getting touched up by a young guy who could punch.)
against the guy who knocked manny pacquiao out cold?
quantity over quality? really? donaire isn't even fighting the best guys in his division. nishi was a decent take as he was ranked higly, but he wasn't the best guy in the division. the best are rigo and mares, after donaire.
this is boxing. one punch can end a fight. one fight can make you fighter of the year if it's good enough.
donaire had a nice year, but he's not beating marquez.
Mares is with GB so we can forget about that one for the time being.... Yes Ring has Rigo right behind Donaire..... But he isn't that good as to where if you substitute him with anyone else Donaire has fought this year that you would be like wow he really deserves foty

Maybe you meant to say "lost" instead of "underperformed"?
Because last I checked being in a fight that is considered a candidate for Fight of the Year is not underperforming.
The Donaire/Nishi fight was so bad and one sided it may as well been Likar Ramos in there.

Its simple really.... Berto was favored to win..... He lost therefore he under performed
None of which matters....fighter of the year is about who you beat
Both berto and nishioka underperformed their expected showing

Berto didnt come to lose like Nishioka who was supposedly the "good" win for Nonito.
Coming up in weight and beating a guy who didn't come to lose > beating 3 guys who you are heavily favorite over.
Those 3 fights don't even have replay value while Berto Guerrero is candidate for FOTY.
But whatever, Thats your opinion. I have more appreciation for quality over quantity.
In other words, Donaire is the krokodil, Marquez is the real deal.
Who in his weight class wouldn't he be favored to beat???
Between Marquez and Donaire.
Fighting 4 times with each being an impressive win (soon to be Arce) is a huge accomplishment and great for the sport itself.
But Marquez knocked out his arch nemesis, who happens to be an ATG. Something a guy like Floyd wouldn't even attempt to do.
Voted Marquez..
Fair enough... All 3 have had better wins than Donaire this year...
Guerrero moved up from lightweight to welterweight (2 weight classes) and a severe shoulder injury to become #3 in a division ahead of Pacquiao and to enter the top 10 P4P Ring rankings... Donaire's been a heavy favorite against all of his opponents this year. The joke is on you, but your head is shoved so far up your ass you can't realize it.
According to Russian, you either:
1: Hate him (Donaire)
2: Fancy the other guys more
3: Have no idea who he fought (doesn't matter if you've seen more fights of Donaire's opponents than he has... Lol)
Guerrero did not have a better year than Donaire did. Sorry.

FOTY is simply about who you beat. Just because the Ring bumps him up for beating an inactive berto who isnt that great and then puts him up to #10 P4P doesnt mean his wins are good this year. He also only has 2. Even if you say Berto is as good as a Nishioka win, he only fought 1 other guys who is comparable to an Acre, the weakest link for Donaire this year. THen Donaire has 2 more fights along with that

Guererro's wins aren't good this year?
He may not have had a year as good as Donaire, Viloria, Garcia, Marquez etc but he's had an impressive year.
I think it should be Donaire. If he KO's Arce Saturday, I think it should be obviously Donaire. JMM is probably going to take it though because of his history-making KO of Pacquiao.
if my mom had a set of nuts she'd be my dad.
 HILARIOUS
I'm going to with Marquez. Sure, Nonito is going to fight more times, but beating Pacquiao is 10x better than the best opponent of Nonito (Nishioka, who already mention he's going to retire)

The difference between Guerrero Broner and Froch is he has beat more top 10 opponents then them this year.....

No its not, its pretty lame to say Guerrero had a better year then Donaire :lol1: what a joke

That is the case for Donaire, no doubt.
It really comes down to how much you like the Nishioka win, that is his best win of the year but if you don't like that win much you could make a strong case for 2 good wins being better than 4 decent wins or 1 great win with another win being greater.
It is all a matter of opinion at that point quantity or quality.
I'll take you up on this debate. I voted for Marquez in the poll because of a couple of factors.
1. Pacquiao is clearly a better win over Donaire's best win of the year, Nishioka.
2. Marquez's win over Pacquiao was very impressive. The fight was close, but Marquez finished him off with a brilliant KO and boxed well beforehand.
3. Nonito's four guys are impressive, but he failed to look spectacular in any of them with the exception possibly being the Arce fight.
It's mainly point number three that has me wrapped up voting for Marquez. Donaire has done a great thing by fighting four times a year and frankly every fighter should be ideally fighting that many times a year. However, was there really ever a performance that stood out as "Wow this guy is definitely the fighter of the year?"
Marquez has that performance. While his other win of the year against Fedenchko was meh, his performance over Pacquiao was just so stunning. It has that quality that Martinez had in his win over Williams or even Ward against Froch.
This isn't an ideal circumstance because Donaire has wins over four quality fighters, but I think it's Marquez's performance over his key rival that gives him the edge.
