The version of JMM we saw last night would not be a easy night work for mayweather who is no longer in his prime anymore..........how high would you put him in the atg list if he pulled the pbf upset?
I agree, and I got mad respect for Dempsey, he was born in my state. He was born and lived part of his early life in Manassa, CO down in the San Luis Valley desert in Southern Colorado, so I got respect for him no doubt. I just feel like people automatically mention him along with Ali and Louis as some of the greatest HW's based on reputation a lot of times.
I have this spreadsheet that I use to keep track of fighters. It's all full of equations and whatnot based on 5 qualities (Top 5 wins, dominance, consistency, longevity, h2h effectiveness) and Dempsey actually shook out to be 3rd at heavyweight (Ali, Louis, Dempsey, Holmes, Lewis, Jack Johnson, Foreman, Marciano, Frazier, Liston, Holyfield for my top 11)
I used to think so too but he went buckwild on that division and KO'd everyone but Tommy Gibbons (an excellent fighter). He has a kind of sneaky good resume. Firpo, Levinsky and Miske were also good fighters and he CRUSHED them. And obviously there was Carpentier, who actually put up a hell of a fight despite getting brutalized and knocked out.

Dempsey is crazy overrated, just my opinion.

shoot....if jmm managed to beat floyd he'd skyrocket on everyone's atg list. he got a better track record as far as taking on game, credible opponents than pac and floyd combined
When are people going to realize that ATG isn't H2H?????
It's your resume and wins, based on your era, and the quality list of wins you put together in your era.
For f**k's sake, this guy doesn't even have Robinson, Ali, Armstrong, or Pep in his Top 10.
1- Ezzard Charles would have destroyed Roy Jones Jr at 175
2- I have never watched Armstrong
you see unlike most morons I ONLY RANK FIGHTERS I HAVE WATCHED AT LEAST 10 TIMES..
If you haven't watch a fighter AT LEAST 10 TIMES.. YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT FIGHT.
So my rankings is the realest rankings there is.. Every fighter I ranked I watched over 10 times.
That's cool. That's a mature take. I don't think anyone destroys Roy Jones, but I think Charles could definitely knock him out late.
Dude.. Im' not saying Roy was PRIME.. I'm saying Calzaghe was shot too. So shot Calzaghe dominated shot Roy? dude he embarrassed Roy and made Roy do the chicken dance lol.
Why is it so hard for you to accept Joe Calzaghe is an ATG?
Because Calzaghe has had about 3-4 legit wins. He beat Hopkins (questionable), Lacy, Kessler, and Bika. That's about it.
He doesn't get credit for beating a shot Roy. Calzaghe isn't close to an ATG, Top 100. That is just asinine.
Calzaghe wasn't prime in 2008, but Roy was done. For example, Manny wasn't prime in 2011 against Mosley, but Mosley was done after the Mayweather fight, done. Manny doesn't get credit for that win.
Calzaghe doesn't get credit for beating a done Roy. Besides, Joe openly admitted he wanted nothing to do with fighting Roy in the late 90's or even the early 00's when Roy could still fight. He openly admitted it.

Nah I made that up. I know it haven't. I was just joking around brah.
Well that's a relief.
Where's Ezzard Charles, Willie Pep, Carlos Monzon, Henry Armstrong, Duran, etc.?
Do you reazlie Lennox Lewis was 245 pounds and 6'5? But moved like a super Middle Weight with the hand speed of a LHW?
Joe Louis was a CW.. dude.
No, you said boxing has evolved like people are better at it, technique-wise. I'll ask you again. What specific skills do you see now that you didn't see then?
Louis was a legit 205-210 pound heavyweight with maybe the fastest hands in the history of the division. He's up there with Ali and with murderous power. Could Lewis spark him with a good shot? Yeah, it's a possibility. But that's not what this discussion is about.
wha the hell are you talking about?
Roy Jones Jr dominated p4p puncher Trinidad. and went into the Calzaghe fight looking almost as good as he did in the 90's. Did you see the jeff lacy fight>
Roy CLOWNED Lacy.
Roy wasn't prime against Calzaghe but he sure wasn't shot.
It was a 80% Roy against a 85% Calzaghe. Calzaghe broke his hands so many times and became a slapper, he was old as hell too and way past prime dude.
Jesus christ......Trinidad was also done when Roy beat him.
Roy hadn't been Roy in at least 3-4 years. He'd been DONE.
Almost as good as he did in the 90's???? Am I reading this s**t right???
I did study the history of the game dude, this might be hard for you to accept, but boxing have progressed a lot since Joe Louis days.. He would not have been top 10 in the 90's .. He will be top 5 today because the hws are shyt, but in the 90's he will be a solid gate keeper for the likes of Tua and Ike.
ATG isn't based only on skill. H2H, sure. I'd favor at least 10 HW's over Louis H2H.
But ATG is based on career for your era, resume, and full list of wins, not H2H.
You should quit this before you embarrass yourself any further man.....
People need to quit sleepin on Calzaghe
He completely destroyed and humiliated a FOTD in RJJ
Marquez just got a lucky punch in a fight he was getting his ass kicked
By the way little skittlez guy, Calzaghe beating Jones at that point is like giving Holmes credit beating Ali in 1980. They were so far passed it, that it's not worth giving any credit. They were done and had been done for awhile.
