Because Marquez had never before fought above 135 lbs and had fought at 130 lbs as recently as March 2008, while Mayweather had campaigned at 147 lbs since 2005, the fight was scheduled to take place at a catchweight of 144 lbs to account for the size disparity between the two fighters.
floyd vs JMM 1 was a joke. JMM fought as a guy 7 lbs heavier than he has ever fought before.
Who wants to bet that floyd won't fight JMM or pacman before he retires without any weight clauses?
I would love to see a rematch at the 147. I think Marquez has a chance to beat Floyd. Floyd has gone down hill since their last fight and Marquez is much better now with his new training program. Those punches that hurt Pacquiao will hurt Floyd. Marquez is stronger and punching harder than ever before. He has found the fountain of youth somehow. I don't think Floyd will fight Alvarez. He is going to fight on two Mexican holidays and I am pretty sure one of those fights will be with Guerrero so maybe the other fight could be with Marquez. I think a rematch with Marquez would be a real big payday for Floyd now that Marquez KOed Pacquiao.
fight pac? lol ok...
fight jmm? why? so he can dominate 12 rounds to none, or possibly stop him?
no thanks. dont get it twisted. marquez KOing pac does not equate coming anywhere near the door of beating mayweather, or even winning 1 round against mayweather for that matter.
lol you guys man...
but beating Berto does? Cause right now Guerrero is the front runner... GTFOH
I wouldnt mind Marquez getting another crack at Floyd now that hes more comfortable at the weight..
What exactly about their first meeting even remotely gives you an idea that it would go differently... I think Marquez even mentioned it wasn't the size, but the whole package..that there was nothing he could do. Marquez has even gone on record as saying Floyd is better than Pac....
I hate Floyd and love JMM as the next guy but that fight was very hard to watch.
idk floyd looked old against cotto...but he's too big for marquez..i got floyd in a 12round UD, theres no way in hell he stops JMM, he dont have the power to do it.
There is now 'new' marquez. He fought a great fight, but has no chance of beating Floyd. Marquez used Manny's careless aggression against him. Floyd wouldnt be careless. Would be a boring wide UD for Mayweather and utterly pointless as both fighters are at the tail end of there careers.
Weight makes no difference in this case, it's a mismatch in every way.
Marquez may have some more power now, but he looked even slower than he was in 2009 with that extra mass. The problem there? He was too slow to land anything on Mayweather 3 years ago, he landed about 2 clean punches in 12 rounds while taking a complete beating...an even slower version will get an even worse beating.
If you want another one-sided destruction then I gues this rematch would make sense.
