Did Marquez just destroy Mayweather's legacy?

Nope Marquez just showed that Pacquiao has nothing to do with Floyd's legacy.

What's apparent is that Marquez's recent win over Pacquiao drastically enhances his own legacy. It's also obvious that what transpired Saturday night was not a good thing for Pacquiao. While it does not diminish the accomplishments Manny has garnered throughout his career, it did knock the Phillipino superstar off a pedestal he built for himself with an astonishing win streak. Marquez effectively ended this incredible run, that included his victories over Morales, Barrerea, Diaz, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito and Mosley which were what gave Manny a false aura of invincibility. However, although definitely past his prime, I do believe Pacquiao looked great early in the MarquezIV fight and can still enhance his resume with a couple more W's, although he wouldn't be obligated. As for Mayweather, I believe his W over Marquez now becomes one of his premiere victories as a fighter. Floyd is positively affected by Juan's KO in this way. I understand he put on a boxing clinic with JMM (with ring rust). But, if there is anything we learned from the fab four of the 80s, it's that triangle theories don't always work. It also cannot go unnoticed that the mega fight that was sure to break all PPV records fell apart because a man not named Floyd Mayweather was brave and skilled enough to knock out the #2 p4p Manny Pacquiao. If a fighter's legacy includes his reputation, then this definitely hurts FM. Many Floyd fans see him as the main reason the fight we all wanted failed to come to fruition and history will not forget this travesty. So, to sum it up. Good for Floyd's resume, not good for Pacquiao's, great for Marquez's, horrible for May's $100mil+ payday

This is a great exaggeration. If Mayweather's legacy solely depends on how he would have fare in a fight against Pacquiao, then his entire career and greatness as a fighter means absolutely nothing and no sensible person can make that claim, no matter how much they hate the man.

If anything, it made Mayweather's better. Whether it be right or wrong, the majority of people 10-20 years will say "Mayweather shut out the guy who knocked Pacquaio flat on his face ala Duran-Hearns". That's depends if Mayweather goes on to lose or not though. If boxing fans still talk about the fighters RJJ ducked in his prime 10+ years ago (and they do, extensively), they're going to have a field day with Mayweather in years to come and the Pacquiao 'fight that wasn't' will stand out like a sore thumb. Mayweather losing in the future is a given, he is a spendthrift like Toney, Jones and Tyson.

Seems to be lost on everyone that this enhanced Mayweathers legacy plenty to the casual observers and any non casual observer who doesn't despise him. first off i'm not trying to discredit anything just staiting facts. marquez was actually slower that first time at WW. why do you think he changed up his camp after for the pac 3 fight, consentrating on SPEED. he even said it in plenty of interviews. also May didn't struggle to make wieght and actually came in on fight night around 160lb. Marquez win (KO) against Pac actually did not change Floyd's legacy but changes the legacy from Pac vs Floyd to Marquez vs Pac and give more legacy to Warquez. It also did not change the legacy of Pac coz like Hearns, Duran and other ATGs, they have been KOed but one thing they have in common, they are fighting the best fighters on their time... Floyd's legacy will be consistent... as a boxer known for ducking Prime fighters on his time...

when mayweather fought marquez, this was marqueze's first trip to the the welters. also mayweather did not make weight. not only that he didn't even weigh in the night of the fight! if they fought again with marquez bulking while building speed AAANND may making weight it would be a better fight. I still think mayweather would win though. but not wipe the floor with him. for me personaly mayweather hasn't really been tested in a LOOONNNGGG time not because he's dominant. for me personally he hasn't set out to be the best and challenge himself. he doesn't fight the toughest of opponents. he chooses fights that make him look like he is. The Pac groupies/Floyd haters like this thread starter is hurting more right now cause they know Floyd`s resume look stronger cause the guy he took to school knocked out Pacquiao.So they trying everything in their power to diminish Floyd`s legacy cause they know that Floyd has a great legacy that is better then anybody in boxing including that roid using weightdraining fraud who got exposed last Saturday. I don't think so, the fight was never going to happen. This era will always be about Pac and Marquez rivalry. This is TRUTH right here. What people don't seem to realize is that Marquez's KO of Pac changed this era of boxing. You're ABSOLUTELY right that this era's focus has changed from 'Pac vs. Floyd' to 'Pac vs. Marquez' Casuals now know Marquez as THE guy that beat Pacquiao, and not only that, I met alot of casual viewers that are now looking forward to a 5th fight between these two, moreso than Floyd and Pac. The Floyd-Pac megafight has officially lost its luster. The rivalry between Pac and Marquez has now overtaken this era.

Floyd hasn't fought in almost a year, JMM has the KO of the year over the 2nd biggest star in boxing. Yet, there are as many posts about how this affected floyd, his legacy etc etc. That makes no sense. Makes a ton of sense you just don't want to take your Floyd blinders off and see it. I'm not a fan of either per say but I just wanted to see a mega fight. For the record, I didn't even want to see Pac vs Marquez 4, I thought it was a waste of time. Floyd needed Manny, not the other way around. Manny winning titles in so many weight divisions solidifies him as one of the greatest of all time. Floyd is too don't get me wrong but the great fighters fight the best of their era, Floyd didn't. Now the money is gone and his chance to have been the one to KO Manny is gone forever as well.
