From a technical perspective, does Pavlik have anything that will trouble Ward?

Back in the day Pavlik had a sense of timing. That negated his slow speed quite a bit. He no longer seems to have that timing and it makes him look even slower. He also seems to have lost confidence in his jab. I cannot see Ward having any sleepless nights waiting for their showdown. Especially when someone posted an interview with Pavlik on here recently and to me, it seemed like he was drunk.

No. Waste of a fight for Ward. I'd much rather see him fight an actual Top 10 SMW like Stevenson, Rodriguez, or Oosthuizen. Pavlik >> Rodriguez

I think this one could get ugly, Kelly didnt look great, technically or otherwise at 168 against Bernard...I know BHop and Ward are different guys, but my gut tells me this one is just for Pavlik to cash out....he's demonstrated power in the past against Taylor and Mendoza, but lets face it, these guys aren't exactly Marvin Hagler in the chin department. Not saying it is totally out of Pavlik's reach, but his out of the ring problems dont inspire confidence. I dont think he could beat Froch, and even his beating Yusuf Mack is questionable. Does anyone think he would be competitive against Kessler, Bika? Im also not saying I think Ward is the heir apparent to Floyd or Pac, I would be on Donaire. Still, an upset would shake things up a little... Ward by wide decision or easy stoppage. If Im wrong I will say I was just kidding

the thing is it doesnt matter how long your jab is if you cant establish the range and it doesnt matter how heavy it is if you cant land it. pavliks jab is slow, his sense of range is poor for such a tall fighter, he never throws his jab at an angle, he uses a very limit variety of jabs, his timing and precision is bad too. take all that into account and his jab isnt all that good overall. kessler, froch, ward, both dirrell bros, stevenson and degale all have better jabs just at 168. ppl obsess about reach when it comes to the jab, im not saying its not an advantage to have a long reach but it isnt everything. ppl always obsess about power too but if you cant land power is irrelevant. just bcuz his jab is long and heavy doesnt make it good, there are so many more aspects to having a good jab which he lack. Is there anything Pavlik brings to the table that Ward will likely have trouble neutralizing? (If this has been discussed elsewhere in detail, I apologize.) No, it's a perfect style match-up for Ward. Pavlik is horrible fighting on the inside and had trouble against moving targets (Ward can do both). This version of Pavlik is also pretty lethargic and won't have any type of size advance over Ward, who's as big or bigger. However, if Pavlik's jab returns he might test Ward a bit. Pavlik really only has a punchers' chance. This is really nothing more than a stay busy fight for Ward as he has nothing to prove against Pavlik.

I said if there's anything close to troubling, it'll be Pavlik's jab with his reach if he actually uses it. I will not debate about how tough Pavlik is for Ward, because he is not tough for Ward. At 168? A mediocre puncher, he couldn't put Taylor away at 164. 3 of his last 5 have gone the distance. Ward is going to trample him. i'm making jokes. he's talking about being kelly pavlik being technical in a fight with andre ward, which is also a joke. and pavlik still hits hard. 168 or otherwise. he's got very heavy hands.

Ward's timing nullifies Pavlik's jab easily. imo the only way any current guys can really land on Ward is by walking through him, but even then Ward is outstanding in the pocket and on the inside.

No, i'm talking about the jab. Pavlik's jab is underrated. really? name a good defensive fighter he used it successfully against. even taylor was outjabbing him until he started gassing and while taylor does have a great jab himself hes got poor defense. that you can hit gary locket and edison miranda with a jab doesnt convince me you have a good one, hopkins and martinez both took it away from him easily and i dont see why ward wouldnt do the same. if he could take kesslers, frochs and dawsons jabs away he can take pavliks. pavlik has a long, heavy jab. but in terms of speed, timing, precision and sense of range its no good. any fighter with good headmovement and a decent jab of his own will take it away from him. i dont want to keep brining up the hopkins fight but it truly is a perfect example, hopkins didnt do anything extraordinary to take it from him either. just basic boxing skills.

No after Pavlik loses to Ward the same way he lost to B Hop. Bob Arum will use Pavlik as a stepping stone for Chavez, Jr.

Not really, I have already seen a older version of Ward (Hopkins)schooling a younger version of Pavlik, I don't want to see this 2.0 thank you.

I don't see what I liked in Kelly anymore but he can punch some and he needs to go all out in this bout!! I would expect him to come to catch Andre cold and try to do damage right away! If Andre gives him alot of laterial movement and punches in & out I think Kelly won't have an answer for him. This could be a good fight!!! Ray.

This should be very similar to the Abraham fight. I wouldn't doubt it. I could see Ward pitching a shutout, but I think the one wild card is Pavlik's jab. I don't think he'll retreat into a shell like Abraham. At least not initially...

Nah. Pavlik was a big puncher at 160, but I'm pretty doubtful of his power at 168 at an elite level. Lopez and Rosinsky took his shots pretty well. He is still a puncher, but so was Abraham at 160, and I don't think it will give Ward any trouble. This should be very similar to the Abraham fight.
