I'm around 117-118 pounds right now, and I'm trying to steadily put on weight...I have protein powder and I'm trying to begin a regimen where I take protein shakes twice a day...
Do you guys think I can gain weight while in the mean time, running?
I would run every other day or so, 2-3 miles...I think the running will cause me to lose weight...am I right?
Any advice?
I would post in the Training & Nutrition section but nobody visits there...
get it in, of course, but weight lifting for legs takes a lot out of you.. it takes your legs sometimes two and a half days to fully recover. you can't give your full effort when your legs are weak. I do agree working out your legs is the best way to gain weight, not only because of their mass but also because it boosts testosterone but two days weight lifting on legs seems a little much.
working your neck muscles out also increases your punch resistance.. but you know what works the best? not getting hit! I would rather focus on my defense then my legs for taking a punch.
Then you end up like Roy when you get old, your legs give out on you and you get knocked out. He was so in to getting out of the way of punches by moving away, that he didn't cared about properly blocking punches with his gloves or using holding tactics like Hopkins, Ward, Wlad, Mayweather, who 3 of those 4 are well in to their 30s+ and don't even have to get out of the way of punches because they use pure defense/basic fundamentals. When they do happen to get hurt, they react pretty calmly to it. I mean Wlad has been knocked out but he definitely raised his defense game as he got older.

why in the eff would you want him to do that? my guess is he boxes.. and doing leg work outs twice a weak is gonna make him slower on his feet.
He, nowhere in his OP, said he boxes. He's simply asking for tips on how to gain weight. If he specified he was boxing then he would get a different reply from me.
Btw working out your legs also releases testosterones.

Naseem did a lot of leg exercises, he had no problems moving around the ring.
I don't do a lot of leg workouts, and I no longer box, but don't strengthening your legs also help your punch resistance? Just saying look at the calves/legs of some of the boxers with the best chins. Mosley, DLH, Pacquiao, Vitali all these guys could take a punch and they had some strong looking calves.

The bench worked for me!
Most of your body weight comes from your legs.

Try Optimum Nutrition: Pro Complex
Best lean shake out there IMO. 650 calories and goes down super smooth. Double chocolate is the best flavor IMO too.

Try drinking weight gainers when you're hungry but don't want food. Whey protein right after a workout, Casein protein to go to bed. If you can't eat that much whole food because of your appetite, try drinking more weight gainer. But never rely on just shakes for protein/calorie source.
I'm not an expert, just started about a month and a half ago myself. Try drinking 3 weight gaining shakes a day of like 600 calories per serving. I use Weider. There are weight gainers that bring 800-1,000 calories per serving, you drink 3 of those a day+your meals+a couple of protein shakes, I think you will gain some weight.
I have two words for you: Bench Press!!

oh, and i'd stick with the running. maybe add some sprints or some hills in exchange for a long run every once in a while.
running is usually one of the best means by which to lose weight and keep it off, but it's a great habit to be in, and it would be a shame to see you break it.
Once you start working out and start drinking shakes your appetite opens up, at least it did for me when I started out. The more you eat the more it stretches your stomach out and you will eat more and more.

I put on about 25 lbs in 1-2 months eating 3 meals and 3 shakes a day. 1 shake in between meals. Sometimes 4 meals and 2 shakes, 1 shake in between meals.
When you are that small is not hard to put on weight but once you hit your plateau it could get frustrating.

I'm only 5'5 and I do use weights...I see definition in my arms but the weight gain is slow, I have a high metabolism...
My main problem is eating a lot...I usually don't have the appetite...guess I just gotta force it...and I'm 22...I did gain some weight though cuz months ago I was around 111-112...
Sounds like whatever you're doing is working so stick at it. If most of that is muscle tissue then you're gaining very well & if you're more defined you may of even lost a bit of bodyfat.
It really is simple; Eating big, the right foods, lifting heavy and getting enough rest/sleep.
I think the most common mistake people make is not getting enough sleep/rest, that is the time when your muscles repair and grow and release hormones.
You will gain weight aslong as you're in a calories surplus (Taking in more than you're burning off)
The running will slow your gains but it'll likely help you put on less fat.
Are you doing weights? How old are you and what is your height?
Also do have a diet plan?

Take in more calories than you burn = Weight Gain
Burn more calories than you take in = Weight Loss
If you want to gain weight, you need to know what your daily calorie needs are, and eat more. It's that simple. If you want to gain muscle, then you need to work your muscles too.
Use a calorie calculator like this one to work out your needs - http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/
There are loads of them online, so try a few and find a ballpark number for what you need to eat.
