Curtis Jackson is a former boxer, so perhaps the stamina he showed on Thursday shouldn't have been all that surprising. Jackson, the hip hop and rap star whose stage name is 50 Cent, clearly displayed an extraordinary aptitude for his new job as a fight promoter.
Jackson stood in the middle of a sweaty boxing gym in Los Angeles, on his feet for hours, reeling off the same answers to the same questions time after time. His genius is that he has the uncanny ability to make each interviewer feel special, as if he were getting something new, different and better than the rest.
The ability to find new solutions to old problems, as well as his salesmanship, is what has made Jackson one of the most successful under-40 entrepreneurs in the world.
His sales ability and business savvy might just be the variable that finally, after more than three years of agonizing and often bizarre negotiations, brings Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to meet in what would be the richest boxing match in history.
Pacquiao has business to take care of ahead of a potential Mayweather fight, though. On Saturday, he'll meet Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time in a pay-per-view bout at the MGM Grand Garden. Their first three bouts were exceptionally fast-paced and action packed, but no matter what he did, Pacquiao hasn't been able to conclusively defeat Marquez.
A win Saturday and once again talk will pick back up about if and when Pacquiao will face Mayweather.
Jackson is positioned perfectly to make the fight happen. He's been Mayweather's long-time friend, but as a boxing fan he wants to see his buddy fight Pacquiao as badly as anyone.

But Pac is equally as big a draw. If they were to fight Pac wouldn't be the B side, therefore Floyd shouldn't expect to earn considerably more than Pac but I doubt his ego would allow him to see it this way.
I agree with you but from what I gather from 50 comments. PBF feels from a paycheck standpoint Manny is the B side. If reports of their earnings from fights are true then PBF is right. But from a popularity and draw standpoint Manny is nobodies B-side. PBF is just being greedy. Like I said in another thread PBF will only make the fight with Manny when he is broke or he can screw Manny over at the negoiating table. Arum has his agenda as well but we all know the fight ain't gonna happen.
Not be the bad guy but I feel only fools would pay for PBF vs Guerrero. I am a big PBF fan I am not buying that fight. It's not even an option for me to buy that PPV!!!!!
thats fine if thats your oppinion but floyd is not the 1st fighter to do things like this i guess you feel the same way about ray leonard and ray robinson

50 gotta lot of nice points, and I really feel bad for him when his best buddy floyd turn his back on him. i mean seriously? how can u hate the guy for the sport? he wants the best fighting the best and is willing to sacrifice his own money to satisfy the people. if floyd loves boxing, he wouldve supported his buddy. instead he played it all safe again, not a shocker though. he just doesnt want fight pacman. its not even about the share.
"If he can iron out the details and get the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight done, that's going to be nearly as impressive a feat as selling $177,000 worth of headphones in nine minutes."
so according to Kevin Iole, selling a bunch of headphones is more impressive than putting together the richest fight in boxing history. The fight that's pretty much impossible to make. Damn.
$177k for 8 min's of work is pretty damn impressive, only people who don't know the value of money would stupid **** like you just did.

It's sarcasm.
i laughed my a$$ off at the Gamboa incident. 50 shells out $1.2 million to Top Rank for Yuri, then turns around and lets TR put Gamboa on the undercard of Pac-JMM 4 (lol) against a Filipino nobody, just to please the Filipino audience. I mean, damn, way to phucking throw your money away.
50 cent should be commended for taking risk and saving Gamboa's career. Floyd was Gamboa's idol. He left TR to be with his idol. Unfortunately, Floyd just ignored him and let him rot and treat him like another one of his worshipers.
Now Gamboa gets the chance to showcase his talent and become part of the biggest fight of this year. Thanks to 50.
50 talks a good game, And i hope he really does help push boxing forward and get opportunities to work with other promoters, The problem is he might not get that chance with other promoters which is a shame.
It appears to be obvious Floyd don't want to have a split with Pac. That fight could make 200 Mil World Wide for sure. How many countries will PPV it...

Floyd comments aside, 50 Cent sounds naive when it comes to promoting fighters (if he actually means what he says).
One wrong opponent selection, and a potentially great young fighter could be physically ruined.
great fighters don't need to be protected... only cashcows do

yeah, fiddy is an idiot businesman... i guess that's why he's rich
"He said Mayweather is "hand-picking opponents" and "looking for a reason not to take the fight."
ouch, Fiddy about to get heat from floyd fans, watch out Fiddy!
Fiddy telling the truth... he used to be a Floyd Roidweather insider, so he knows floyd is chicken-shiot and he knows that floyd shats his pants everytime people talk about Pac to him
I am starting to like 50 cent for the sport. Mayweather is a frigging joke. Greedy and insecure. He's the still one of the best to lace them up, but he's arrogant and childlike. Manny Pac, too, he's need to man up and stop being Arum's child.
I guess the boxing god hates us to put such talent in two of the biggest divas the sport has seen.

If Gamboa keeps his ability till the age of 37 you're crazy to say he won't be a PPV fighter....

He's gotta keep winning and against top level guys.
Gamboa is a great fighter. But he'll never be a cash cow. He could get to the level of a Sergio Martinez as far as ability, for sure. But just like Sergio, he'll never be a PPV fighter or a really really big name to make big money like Mayweather and Pacquiao, or even guys like Cotto, Alvarez, Chavez, etc. Or even a Marquez as far as drawing power goes.
