Some Cotto fans are acting like Cotto is invincible and if he loses it must be Cotto fighting at his unnatural weight or something. But some of these same Cotto fans say Floyd should fight Martinez at 154 or he`s ducker even though Floyd is smaller then Martinez.
Let me take some of you Cotto fans down memory lane.
140:Cotto struggled against Muhhamad Abdulaev a fighter Cotto lost to in the Amateurs. The fight was stopped on a cut and at the time of stoppage the fight was close,Cotto struggled badly against Ricardo Torres a hard punching one dimensional fighter who hurt Cotto bad numerous times, had Cotto holding on for dear life numerous times and even dropped Cotto.Cotto struggled against Chop Chop Corley who had Cotto hurt so bad that he could have stopped him but Corley is the worst finisher i`ve seen in the history of boxing. Rather then go in for the kill he takes his sweet time to try to stop Cotto giving Cotto time to recover.
147:Cotto struggled against an old Mosley,Cotto never once hurt Mosley but Mosley hurt Cotto numerous times and he even had Cotto running the last 4 rounds. Some of you buy into Cotto`s b.s when he said "i ran cause i felt i had the fight in the bag",No!the reason Cotto ran cause Mosley hit him so hard that he was bleeding inside the mouth so Cotto was really hurt.Go watch the fight again and listen to the commentators who over-heard Cotto talking to his corner-men.Many people felt the fight was a draw.
Cotto struggled against Clottey and many people felt Clottey won that fight. But the excuses were Cotto was damaged goods cause of Margarito`s bricks,no stupid Cotto struggeld cause he was fighting someone with a pulse.
Cotto struggled a little against Zab Judah,Zab had hardly any confidence in that fight but a few times when Zab would muster enough will to throw a punch he would catch Cotto and have Cotto hurt badly and at-least once Cotto would resort to hitting low so he could have time to survive.Just imagine if this was a confident Judah who let his hands go a lot.He probably would have stopped Cotto.
Cotto lost to a slow, plodding, overrated Margarito.Yeah sure Margarito probably had his gloves loaded but loaded gloves or not Cotto should not have been getting caught by a fighter that`s so freaking slow you`d think he`s fighting underwater.
Cotto lost to Pacquiao who climb up 57 weight classes with the help of jesus and had Cotto running for dear life throughout most of the fight. While Marquez jumps up 2 weight classes and took Pacquiao to school.Tim Bradley jumps up 1 weight class fights Pacquiao, becomes a paraplegic after 2 rounds but still go on to give Pacquiao problems and won in the judges eyes atleast.People who weren`t brainwashed by HBO Pacaganda felt the fight was competitive.
So if you analyze Cotto`s history with no bias you`ll see that Cotto fighting at 154 has little to do with losing to Trout,it mostly has to do with Trout not being made to order for him.
I got the popcorn ready for the verbal bashfest this thread gonna get..
i didnt think Trout was all that good but I was fooled by Cotto's track record at 154 - which upon furthur inspection is not that good. He's only beaten one of the weakest champs - B fighter Yuri Foreman, shot Mayorga and Margarito at catchweight
not a good resume at 154 and not a good indicator of how he'd do against a legitimate champion at this weight class - which Trout reaffirmed he is last night.
i would not be so quick to overrated Trout either, its not like he pummeled Cotto, but he certainly outworked him and outboxed him. Wouldnt be surprised if Trout lost to another contender at 154 his next fight
the thing is many fans were saying that trout has basically no chance on beating cotto. but once he does beat cotto there is all this "he doesn't belong at 154, he is washed up, the fight was a draw" nonsense. Trout won fair and square no excuses. Trout was the better fighter that night
I agree that Cotto is one of the most overrated top boxers by many on boxing scene. I do think he has no business at 154. He is not even a big welterweight. He was not drained at 145 for the Pacquiao nor would he have been drained in a rematch at 150. If he is going to continue he should return to 147 and fight Bradley, or Guerrero or Alexander. I think Canelo would KO him with no problem.
I agree, was about to make a thread like this but you beat me to it
Cotto at best is a B+ fighter, he is also does not respect the sport enough to be disciplined like Hatton
His frame, his height and everything about his body says 147 fighter, but the man is too damn laid back to stay in shape.
Also I want to add, pac and floyd should NEVER fight at 154, that is what weight classes are for, why go fight at 154 and put yourself at a massive disadvantages against proper 154 fighters? fighting cotto at 154 is different because he is a 147 fighter just a bloated one...
Floyd and pac are average and for pac small ww, they have reached their limits, if they fight at 154 then it will not show who is better between them and martinez, all it will show is they are stupid for ignoring the boundaries of the sport when they are knocked out
there is a reason light heavies struggle most of the time at heavyweight
I watched the mosley fight and Cotto was never hurt in that fight. Trout looked so much bigger than Cotto last night. Cotto was not able to bully him around.
