Cotto is better than any win on Canelo's resume. According to RING Cotto was at 2 before this fight. Does Trout take over at 2? 3? lower?
Canelo 2A and Trout 2B for me, for now.
I'd favor Canelo over Trout

Defeating Cotto as cleanly as he did, Trout certainly moves up into the upper echelon of the 154 division.
What is needed in the division are some unification fights- cleaning out of the division. 154 is up for grabs right now, and Trout has as good a shot as anyone to wear the crown.
What's crazy is, GBP dominates this division. You would think that it'd be easy to make fights happen, but politics get in the way.

I don't know that tonight was so much about Trouts rise as it is about Cotto falling off a cliff. I think the jury remains out on Trout IMO.
That's obviously not Cotto's best weight. He always fades late, which is what ultimately led to his downfall in this fight. He started breathing through his mouth at about round 7 or 8. I think Trout had a good showing. There's some things he could definitly work on. I'd like to see him fight a WBA ranked fighter, most of which are undefeated, then go on to fight a ring top 10 guy later next year.
Ranking this division is very difficult because most guys haven't fought each other. However, I know for a fact that Alvarez doesn't have the resume to be ranked at the top 3. Trout, Mayweather, Lara, Cotto, and Molina could all be ranked among the top 5 however.
Lara, Molina, and now Trout belong above Alvarez without a single doubt. They are proven fighters within that division, something Alvarez is not. If you count Mayweather at 154, he belongs above Alvarez as well.
Trout has an argument for the top spot, or second if you count Floyd. No lower than 3 IMO.
