ward is the clear top dog in his division right now but rjj in his prime was invincible at super middleweight.
i'd say rjj had the better combination of speed, power, reflexes and would prove too much for ward. this fight would be the most competitive of rjj's super middleweight career. ward has enough relative ability to make it a close fight. roy jones wins by UD.
your thoughts?
Nobody wins against Andre Ward. Not even in a fantasy fight.
Ward would fence to the body, accidentally headbutting RJ's both eyes cut wide in about 3 or 4 rounds... Easy work.
this would be a great fight the thing is we are just now starting to see the real andre ward. he has not had a right hand his entire career and now its fixed. if you go back watch his fights froch for instance he uses his right to set up his left jab and hook which he obviously turned into great weapons but now in his last fight he was actually able to rock rodriguez a few times with his right and he was actually able to let his right hand go. Im a fan of both i just think this question is hard to answer as i think the next few fights will be the prime andre ward we havent seen yet and I think when all is said and done ward will be a better boxer then roy. Hell ward may of beat him anyway
I have a ton of respect for Ward, I think he's clearly the best in the game right now. Having said that Roy Jones was just something else in his time. I go RJJ>Ward in this fantasy fight.
past fighters always win fantasy fights against current fighters no matter how good they are
I personally think Roy would win but wouldn't be surprised if Ward frustrated the hell out of RJJ, Roy wasn't as good of a boxer as he was an athletic freak of nature
Ward would give Roy big problems...Roy's quickness wouldn't be worth much unless he straight up would bring the fight to Ward. This is a bad matchup for Roy and not many of those exist.
Ahem let me clear my throat so I can say this clearly:
Roy Jones Jr. at 168 pounds is the Greatest fighter in the HISTORY of boxing. Noone is more talented and gifted than him at that weight. Everything you wanted in a fighter...he had it. I would put noone in the history of this sport above him at that weight.
Jones beats any 168lber,he was superhuman in his prime,it doesn't take away from Ward who is a special talent himself,i don't think he gets stopped though
Jones. Too quick, too strong, too smart, too good. Ward is my guy, but he's NEVER fought anyone remotely as good as a prime Roy Jones, Jr. All the clinching he does, Roy would eat him up before he gets the chance. Usually when I see Ward fights, he seems to control the pace, but I think Roy would dictate it in this case due to his speed. It would be a total mismatch imo.
wonder why refs somehow allow ward's excessive clinching tactics. i respect the guy but i'm not surprised he doesn't have the same solid fan base like other top p4p stars
