Do u guys really see potential in Garcia? Do u really think he has what it takes to be a true top fighter or is he just in a weak division...
I'm not entirely sold yet, but that's what I said about Bradley until the Peterson fight...
Beating Judah would be a good gauge, but that isn't always telling
Anyway, to sum it up, can he beat the top guys in and around his division?
Matthysse, (A better prepared) Khan in a rematch, Marquez, Rios, etc @ 140
Guerrero, Brook, Paulie, Bradley, Ortiz, Alexander, etc @ 147 (No Floyd or Manny)
And even an Adrien Broner once he moves up
U guys read thread titles but not threads...
I'm not asking if he is RIGHT NOW Elite, I'm asking if he has potential... Which is clearly stated in the first paragraph
I think he is a very good fighter and getting better. Lots of very good fighters can make 140. Matthysse is the best fighter fighting at 140 now and I think he would almost certainly KO Garcia. Rios would be a great even fight with Garcia. I think Garcia will KO Khan again no matter who trains him. I would pick Bradley, Alexander, and Guerrero to beat Garcia. If he feels good at 140 I think Garcia should stay at that weight. I expect him to KO Judah. Broner would be an even fight with Garcia at 140. I don't know who would win that fight.
I think Swift will be the type of fighter that every one will pretty much say he's going lose this fight, he's going to lose that fight, he can't win, then on fight night he not only wins but wins in a way that surprises fans. Sort of like Hopkins but more exciting and of course without the defense and boxing fundamentals. Just the part that Hopkins was basically supposed to lose all of his big fights from Trinidad-present. He was underdog in all of them basically.
Like Hopkins? Dafuck:thinking:
I thinks it's more like Abner Mares...
When he fights Mattyhsse we will see if he's elite or not (and vice versa for matthysse). The judah fight does nothing for me. Rios fight will never happen unfortunately.
That's exactly how I see it as well.
Elite?
Who did he beat to be consider Elite? His skills and potential are average at best. He would lose to all the top guys at 140.
He is an average/solid fighter with power and that's it.
Absolutely not, catching a wild Amir Khan and two wins over a shot Morales does not categorize you as elite. He has power behind those punches but not much else. Solid fighter but far from elite.
Garcia isn't even very good let alone elite. He was getting beat by a Khan who fought the only kind of fight he could have lost against Garcia, and other then that Garcia has fought a shot to **** Morales and other fighters who will stand and trade with him (slowly) to make him look good. He has a great hook and can time you if you are slow as **** (see Morales). Otherwise he is a B level fighter at best.
Elite? Khan had already been KTFO more impressively against Prescott in 1 rd and was already coming off a loss against Peterson. Morales is shot to shit and hadn't won a legitimate fight since his comeback. Does that constitute as elite?
Lets see what happens when he steps up to a solid 140 lber.
Ppl need to give Garcia his props but he's not quite yet at the elite level. They talk about how he's so basic, how he beat shot fighters in Morales and Khan etc etc.I can accept the fact that he beat an over the hill fighter in Morales but it was his coming out party where many of anybody's favorite fighter do. Nobody knew him just estimated him as some pushover as I thought. As for the rematch,Morales threw in the rematch clause wrench. But i wont deny the fact that he beat the dog **** out of Khan and that was a solid win for the books.Unification, undefeated, first title defense in his career, and to top it all off HE SHOT DOWN the Khan plane from landing a Mayweather match. Ppl should thank him for saving us from that pointless fight and not immediately landing himself a Floyd fight.
Judah doesn't do much for his legacy but in the aspect development of his game as Garcia lacks speed.
I think its too early to tell whether he is an elite fighter yet, so far hes good. He hasn't had that mega-fight which launches him onto the p4p top 10 list against another top level fighter. Wins over an old Morales and Khan were impressive, but they were not great fighters themselves (Morales was before ofc).
I think Danny is talented and I hope he can achieve that status :boxing:
not yet, but swift is young, and I think he will get to elite level. he definitely has it what it takes, and the fact that EVERYONE sleeps on him makes it so much sweeter
I think he's already overachieving, im far from sold he's ever going to be elite, i think he's going to get a beatdown and stopped before he gets to being elite. I dont even dislike him, my eyes just dont have faith in what they've seen
Perhaps. The tools are there for him to become an elite. First order of business to get there is to move dad to 2nd chair and get himself an elite trainer. Pedro anyone?
I still look at Garcia as a prospect. Remember hes a yr ahead of schedule. He wasnt even on Khans radar at first and if Peterson doesnt test positive we arent even having this conversation. He would just be another kid with a belt. He doesnt have elite talent like a Broner or Gary Russell Jr, so he can only prove it by beating guys in the ring. Once hes fully developed who knows.
