the ward-pavlik fight is on jan 26 being targeted for LA. ward's last two fights have been phenomenal but showed somewhat excessive clinching and holding which makes it difficult for his opponents to get into a rhythm.
pavlik's advantage is on the outside where he can throw that wicked right straight. let's assume for a second pavlik is able to clean up his act and could come back to being 90% of what he was when he dethroned a prime jermain taylor, he could give ward some serious problems. if he can push ward back with his hi-work rate and a ref that splits them apart during a clinch creates distance, pavlik might be able to pull off an upset. for the record, i think ward wins this by UD

ok thanks bojangles...sometimes a fighters like ward every once in a while underestimate a guy, and strange things happen...they wind up fighting harder than anticipated...like when sugar ray leonard, got put down on the canvas against kevin howard, and roy jones got put on the canvas against lou del valle...never did like kelly pavlik above 160, but hey at least he has experience against top opposition...just trying to figure out why is ward fighting pavlik anyway...lol
pavlik does have a punchers chance, plus he's barely 30 yrs of age so pavlik is not old or anything. the odds should be closer to 3-1 ward being the favorite
He's been down, and he did fight Miranda and take his punches, so I don't think Pavlik brings anything from a power standpoint that Ward's never faced before. Even if he can put Ward down with a well placed shot, Ward would just get up and get back to kicking Pavlik's ass.

Pavlik best chance of winning is to take away one of Ward's strengths inside fighting he has to on the outside and control with the jab the gameplan should be jab jab and jab
Yes. He should just double the ****ing jab!

It's in jOakland so there's little reason to think that the ref wont favour Ward.
And even if the referee would break them up quickly I cannot see Pavlik having more than a longshot punchers chance. It's been many years since Pavlik gave a performance that could give him some hope, and since then his toughest fight has been a bottle probably just outscoring a staphinfection.
Ward probably wins a ud. but Pavlik could win by KO. Pavlik has real power in both hands with the straight right being the best punch. Kelley also has the reach and a great jab so he has a chance. When Kelly hurts a guy he goes after them hard and he is a good finisher.
has ward's chin been cracked yet?...this is one of those fights where ward could fight down to the level of his opponent, and it gets weird...besides that, ward decision in true clutch, clinch, and headbutt style....

Ward has not been clinching and fighting ugly nearly as much in his last two fights. He basically destroyed Dawson outside. Pavlik's basic attack will not win him this fight, and he'll be hard pressed to make it competitive.
If I remember correctly I think Bika chin-checked Ward. That said, Not only will Pavlik not win a single round. He might get stopped outright. I can see the ref putting an end to this fight. Promoter is cashing out IMO. This guy is coming off of rehab with a handful of unimpressive wins and now they decide to throw him in with a P4P fighter? Makes no sense.
Minus a fluke punch from Pavlik, I think he's gonna be completely outclassed.
I'd love for a Pavlik KO though
Yea... Idk how much power Pavlik still possesses but that's all he has in this fight really, a punchers chance. Slim chance but hard to count a puncher out. Especially vs someone who's been down before.
