thurman ( 19-0-0, 18KO) was matched against former world champion, carlos quintana (29-4-0, 22KO) of puerto rico on the undercard of the guerrero-berto fight. thurman showcased his massive punching power. he is promoted by GBP. thurman’s win puts him as an up an comer of the 147 lbs division. it would be interesting to see how golden boy will handle his next fights.
they can match thurman against their cash cow, canelo at 154 (that is if a CW is not possible). i think thurman would pose a deadly risk for guerrero, and canelo is someone who can match thurman's power and make it more competitive. thurman might even be able to beat canelo.
it's close and hard to call, but that's what makes it a good fight.
your thoughts?
I think Canelo vs Thurman would be a good fight. It's too many good 154lbers for Canelo NOT to be fighting good opposition. Common sense to why he would fight Mayweather though....MONEY!!!!
They can't match Thurman with Canelo...
That fight would be waaaay to soon for Keith Thurman he hasn't fought anybody really notable to be worth a mention in the same breath as Canelo.
Pure comedy! I think the names can be inter-changed and the statement will still be true!
I can see Thurman fighting guys like Maidana, Angulo, and Kirkland as step up fights. If he gets past those than he should be put up for a title fight. However, I really don't understand what people see in him since he is a very sloppy fighter. I think many people in boxing like when a fighter has power and are blinded by it, in a way. Power punchers are good, but it takes more than that to make it to the top. I don't see him getting too far, with power alone. But, let's see what happens.
Name me one fighter that has 6 national amature titles and a silver medal at the olympic trials only being a puncher. I am sure as his career unfold we will see that Thurman does what he needs to. Punch, box or a combination of both.
Canelo will never match himself against somebody who can punch if is not a big pay day...
do you blame him? he draws crowds why big risk low reward?? you wouldnt do it either so dont hate. all you do is spew hate on the boards man ....
Canelo is not the onlyone who want to fight the too guys..thruman wants too..every boxer want that..Sure everybody wants the big fights. The difference is Canelo is a world champ and a huge money maker himself and Thurman is not. So guess who will have a better chance to fight those guys first. Hey, maybe Thurman could fight Lara.
HBO force Thurman vs Quintana, HBO have more HBO guys they can force on Thurman ..
147 HBO fighters
Robert Guerrero
Selcuk Aydin
Luis Carlos Abregu
Antonin Decaire
154 HBO fighters
James Kirkland
Serhiy Dzinziruk
Gabriel Rosado

You guys don't know what you're talking about. Keith is a phenomenal boxer. Did nobody else see how he set that shot up that put Quintana down? That was great boxing.
The guy has had over 100 fights in the amateurs, with over 100 wins. He can definitely box.
I'd like to see Thurman fight a Delvin next, beat him. Than fight a Kirkland or Angulo. If he were to get a win like that, Canelo-Thurman would be a pretty big fight.

Canelo wants to fight the top guys and Thurman is not a top guy yet. Canelo will be fighting guys like Martinez and Cotto if Cotto wins and Canelo can get those fights. The fight would be at 154 because Canelo is a star now and he won't compromise on the weight. Quintana was ranked #15 by the WBC so beating him got Thurman a ranking somewhere in the WBC top 15. If he keeps winning he might get the Canelo fight down the road.
I think they're gonna let that marinate a bit. I think Canelo is getting into big fights now as Thurman is still proving himself though he did beat a good name in Quintana, though quite passed it.
