without the head butts, elbows ,holding and hitting plus low blows, Berto would have won the fight with ease. The ref was clearly inexperinced. Robert even threw multiple Punches after the final bell. The reff should have took control of the fight in round one. Robert did what he had to do, im not blaming him at all. I blame the ref. Robert also thumbed Berto on purpose. If it was a stand alone foul, maybe it would b considered. An accident, but when you add it to punching after the bell, low blowing punches, holding and hitting, head butting and throwing elbows, it becomes very clear, Robert cheated his way to victoy. I know some of hou are blind to the rules of boxing and will label me with negative names but everything that i stated in this thred is fact.
Berto deserves to lose for his lack of ability. He couldn't adjust to the rough inside fight that's on him. He was leaning right into Guerrero's left hand all fight long.
and can someone show me this "intentional thumb" ppl are talking about
That's the thing, it wasn't an intentional thumb. They showed the replay of what happened and it was clearly from a punch. Berto fans are on damage control.
Probably the dumbest thread I've read on a boxing fourm.
1. Berto initiated most if not all the clinches.
2. Berto literally had NO RESPONSE to Robert's come forward style, so he held
3. Berto is a known drug cheat, so to call Robert a cheater is hilarious
4. Robert couldn't hear the bell, and the incompetent ref didn't separate them
5. Berto's corner literally told him to stop clinching so much
6. As others mentioned, when Hopkins, Ward, Dawson, Alexander and other fighters do it, it's "crafty and slick"
Guerrero wins any way you look at it. Shit thread. Goodbye.
i agree that he couldn't hear the bell, i was at the fight and was close to the ring and it was loud during those last 30 seconds, it was hard to hear the bell
This^^^^^^. And lets throw in that Bradley's head has been such an issue that the ref's even mention it in the locker room/pre-fight instructions, not to mention it's pretty much his calling card whenever a fight of his is approaching. Ward? Nah, he just knows how to effectively maul a fighter, and does it in a far more "cleaner" manner than B-Hop.
Personally for me the little tricks dont bother me(hitting on the thighs, holding and going to the body), thats just part of the game. But holding behind the head to let off a series of blows DOES bother me, and sending 3-5 good shots after the bell DOES bother me. Even low blowing to get yourself outta trouble bothers me. To me, thats just going too far.
Whats funny is I see alot of praise for Robert, and the nasty tactics he used last night(Berto was guilty of some himself, but Robert DID make it that kind of fight, and the ref somewhat allowed it), but when Floyd cold c0cked Victor for being a dirty mvtherfvcker, you coulda swore that Floyd had reveiled himself as the anti-Christ himself, from the posts on here. I find that odd.
Great post, Chief.

You just agreed with me and don't Even realize it, when You said the ref was incompetent ! That was my whole argument. I really cant blame the fighter for doing what he felt he had to do to win but i do fault the ref for allowing it.
Please tell what fight you saw Berto in where he threw four punches after the bell, or where Berto deliberately thumbed His opponent in the eye, or where Berto threw low blows, and head butts for twelve rounds. Please tell me which fight. I'll Wait!
You are actually saying Guerrero deliberately thumbed him? With an attached thumbs glove? :lol1: Wow. I guess hitting behind the head, holding one arm and hitting with the other, and initiate the majority of clinches is "CLEAN" fighting.
berto held, hit behind the head, elbowed, hugged aswell. His own damn corner was yelling at berto and telling him to stop holding, and to stop wrapping his hands around guerrero.
At least someone else actually saw Berto's dirty tactics too. He deserved the warnings he got. Guerrero just should have got some too.

how are you gonna blame the referee for berto's loss when that's berto's style of fighting anyway?

People on this forum have become soft. You see two men go to war in the trenches and you cry about it afterwards?
Its people like this guy that makes me sick! I love boxing for the sport of it, heart, will and skill. There is no place in boxing for nutt punching, head butting, and punching after the bell. MMA is where those with no brains and knuckle game go to be fighters. Boxing is about skill will and heart. I like effective brawlers, I just hate fighters that doesnt have the belief or confidence in themselves to fight within the rules of the game.
Berto was holding and was warned repeatably for rabbit punching and landed multiple low-blows himself.
Personally I loved watching Robert roughing up the dirty drug-cheat and p1ssed myself laughing when he had Berto out on his feet, didn't hear the bell and proceeded to beat the sh1t out of him at the end of the 12th.
But when Andre Ward and Hopkins do it, it's called 'rough tactical inside fighting' right.
I knew Berto was gonna get beaten down. I was so confident I even made a thread and betted HUGE money on it.
Trout is next...
No its called fighting dirty also, stop excusing it cause Guerrero cheating ass did it to.
Without all that roughhousing suggesting that Guerrero would of stayed on the outside ?, he'd of won even more convincingly, the better man won the fight no getting around it.
What thumb? :|....
And whats funny is the punches that landed that hurt Berto were from the outside.... The follow up was all inside of course... Berto has his arm wrapped over Guerreros...I guess he forgot to call timeout because Guerrero didnt get the memo to stop punching him....in a fight.

berto was the one holding! in the corner his trainer asked him repeatedly to stop holding.
if a boxer is being held it is clearly legal to punch the guy holding with your free hand
No, its not cheating. You guys really should learn the rules before spouting ****e. The reason he didn't break it up early on with all the supposed 'holding' is because Berto was holding one arm of Guerrero, thus is the other is free you are 100% allowed to punch away. If Berto had his arm wrapped outside Guerrero's then it's pretty clear who was doing the holding.
Berto was holding, and trying to use that to get the ref to break it up to give him the advantage. Because he would only hold one arm though, the ref correctly let them keep fighting with Guerrero punching away with his free arm. Berto sucks inside though, and tried to tie up in all his fights to 1: get a quick rest and 2: get the ref to break it up so he can get back outside without having to fight inside. He has always initiated clinches. It's part of his style. Guerrero very smartly used it against him, probably from watching plenty of the Collazo tape, and din't allow the ref to get in and break by punching with his free arm.
As to the head butts, elbows, low blows etc, it happens in a rough and tumble fight. Berto landed a fair few hefty rabbit punches too, and it was Berto initiating most of the holding, hence why Guerrero was punching and Berto was doing nothing but hoping the ref would break them.
If Berto could have won it easy any way, he would have. That's like saying "If Guerrero had let Berto punch him in the face without trying to defend and without punching back, then Berto would have won easy bro!"
It's that simple. If Berto would have won some other way, without Guerrero fighting back, then he would have, but guess what, it's a fight and there's two guys fighting and one guy doesn't always fight the way his opponent wants him to to get any easy win. Guerrero won because he's more versatile. Simple as that.
