Which would be the better fight for a possible late Spring fight, Alvarez or the Berto/Guerrero winner???
I'm hoping for Mayweather-Pacquiao, but I won't hold my breath obviously. And it seems people have finally slowed their roll on Mayweather fighting Sergio, who's the Middleweight champion, who seems to not be fighting his own big challenges in his own division.
But personally if it's between those two options, I'd rather see Floyd fighting the Berto/Guerrero winner, who'd be coming off a good win and be a top ranked WW, than Alvarez who still has yet to get a good win yet.
I have Guerrero winning a UD tonight. Berto is a bum, just another figment of Al Haymon's imagination.
I don't think Mayweather should be fighting either of them. Jail time for not, neither of these guys do anything for Mayweather legacy wise.
Its funny how Floyd fans were echoing his statements about how belts don't matter to him and just collect dust but are quick to prop up guys like Ortiz, Guerrero, or Berto as credible opponents for Floyd just because they have a strap. Floyd needs to fight a top P4P guy next or just retire.
I like how the Ortiz fight is now a bad choice. People liked it because Ortiz had just beaten a top 3 WW and WBC champion, he was young, big, strong, taller than Floyd and had the whole "i've knocked down every opponent i've faced" gimmick. Now the fight was the wrong choice.
Anyway, Martinez has Chavez Jr lined up for 2013, Pacquiao if he beats Marquez has Rios lined up for April, if Cotto beats Trout GBP will most likely make Canelo-Cotto for May 4th. That leaves nobody but Berto, two Haymon fighters have never fought each other, correct me if i'm wrong. Berto and Mayweather are not fighting eachother.
That leaves Mayweather with Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse, Marquez rematch, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo.
I don't think anyone other than shade darkar, who has been very consistent with his hate for both Mayweather and Pacquiao's choice of opponents lately, is saying Ortiz was a bad choice.
At the same time, we shouldn't act like many people really expected much of him going into that fight. There were the typical haters saying Ortiz had a chance, otherwise people pretty much expected Floyd to win easy. It was looked at as a bad opponent, but good choice fight to lead into bigger things, but those bigger things didn't happen. Which is the pattern with Mayweather other than the Mosley fight.
Yeah that's THE fight to make at 154 right now. They should do that on May 5th.
Then winner gets Floyd. If Cotto beats Trout and Alvarez he would have done more than enough to earn a rematch.
That would be ideal but Floyd is the new Oscar, he can **** up potentially great matchups because everybody wants to fight him and nobody would turn him down.
I'd rather he fought Canelo. A fight with Berto would be really one-sided, Floyd does everything Berto does but better. Guerrero's fights are usually pretty mediocre, and he just moved up to 147 so he probably needs a fight at 154 before he can challenge May. Canelo on the other hand is a big money fight, and he's proven he's worth at least some of the hype, beating everyone put in front of him convincingly. Ideally, he fights Cotto before taking on Mayweather to get adequately prepped for A-level opposition, but unless Mayweather's content with waiting, or fighting Pacquiao or Sergio (*gasp*), there's noone out there with enough upside to make it interesting. Guerrero isn't that guy yet and Berto almost definitely isn't.
If Mayweather is returning Cinco De Mayo again, then I am sure they (GBP) would prefer it to be Guerrero or Alvarez
It all Depends on Tonight to be honest, if Guerrero wins in a good fight then I think that Makes Mayweather vs Guerrero much more acceptable
But Roger Mayweather recently talking about Mayweather quietly meeting with Arum leaves the door open for Mayweather vs Bradley I think, maybe that is why Bradley declined some of those fights that was offered to him because he is waiting for another BIGGER FIGHT!
Mayweather/Canelo would **** up Cotto/Canelo so I'd rather see Mayweather/Guerrero (no way Floyd fights Berto because they're both with Al Haymon).

It's stressful debating with people who either weren't following the sport or are that forgetful.

If Mayweather had problems with Cotto then he will find himself in bigger trouble with Alvarez.
Not saying Mayweather wouldn't win but he will take the biggest beating of his career. Whether people want to believe or not Alvarez is something special.
you just said he fought who he was supposed to which its completely wrong.
im saying there is something wrong with his choice regarding ortiz.
With Ortiz's annihilation of Berto very few saw anything wrong with that.

Not only that, but the way he beat him too.
Your argument is who the hell wanted to watch Mayweather vs. soandso over Pacquiao (Most anticipated fight in the sport) that's retarded. Your missing the point, I'm saying there was nothing wrong with Mayweather's choice of opponent at the time, people tend to forget what the consensus was only after Mayweather dominates.

no he bloody didnt. the mosley fight was fine, no problem with that at all. who the hell wanted to watch may vs ortiz over may vs pac? who wanted to watch may vs cotto over may vs pac?
mayweather vs cotto was the fight to have after mayweather knocked hatton out. not 5 years later.

Out of interest, if Canelo does get Mayweather, when would Floyd have last faced a fighter with a resume that weak? When is the last time he'd have faced a fighter with a resume that was worse?
There are only three credible opponents, the Pacquiao fight isn't happening so lets get real. Bradley is under the Top Rank banner so you can safely cross that out and Martinez isn't doing himself justice by campaigning at MW, if Martinez truly wants Cotto, Canelo or Mayweather than he should have moved down and made those options viable.
He isn't left with much to pick from. Always said it was either gonna be Danny Garcia or Guerrero if he's victorious tonight, big if.
im not buying the excuses, im not interested in the floyd doesnt like bob arum so he cant possibly fight manny pacquiao excuse. if man can fly to the moon then they can arrange a fight. not interested in a may vs bradley. mayweather vs martinez could happen at 154. if floyd really wants to test himself then it can happen at 160.
Alvarez at least sounds exciting
Floyd-Berto or Floyd-Guerrero would suck
Alvarez would get murked but at least he'd go down fighting
Guerrero wouldn't be able to do much and Berto wouldn't even try
That's how it gets seen once he performs, in fighting Mosley, Ortiz and Cotto he fought the guys he was suppose to going into those fights. Just because some of those fighters fell from grace shortly after does not discredit Mayweather's choice of opponent at the time.

Ugh, screw either of those fights. Unless Guerrero wins in crazy impressive fashion against Berto, Alvarez I guess.
pretty much my position... unless berto/guerrero win impressively that would generate a lil excitement then go for it, otherwise I would rather Mayweather fight Sergio or Pacquiao/Marquez winner.
Alvarez is slowly turning me into a believer, but he is still not quite ready just yet.
