Being a "great defensive boxer" like Pep, is one thing but being "Locche or Young Griffo: is a completely different talent, on a far higher level. Guys like Pep actually sometimes took a fair amount of punishment, enough, in Pep's case, to give him Pugilistic Dementia.
Pep was a masterful defensive genius and he was DEFINITELY on Locche's level. the thing with Pugilistic Dementia doesnt mean that you got hit all the time. Chuvalo got hit a lot and does not have Pugilistic Dementia. Btw Pep only got it very late in his life. Jimmy Young also had it and he had excellent head movement.
Locche was a a great defensive fighter but get real Floyd is the more talented more proven fighter
how is Floyd "the more proven" fighter?? Locche is a hall of famer who fought everybody and pretty much beat everybody. I love how kids come here on the forum and act like they know boxing history. I bet you never even heard of Locche before this thread was made.
of the fights i've seen of him the guys he's fighting seem to punch in slo-mo
that isn't a smart way of saying locche looked awesome by the way, im being serious, they looked like bums
but for all i know he was facading it roy jones like, makin'em look like nobody
Ye, I a favourite fighter of mine, I saw his whole career, and each fight was more entrancing than the other. He's a fogotten defensive genius, and probably the last one of his kind, so far. He used to evoke comparisons from the old timers with Young Griffo.
Mayweather doesn't come anywhere close to Locche, no comparison at all, not even a "poor man's Locche'... To menion their names together is paying a supreme compliment to Mayweather, and a great insult to Locche. You're talking about a man who could stand 18 inches in front of his opponent and by a few twitches, bends, and superb timing, might not be hit at all, or at most, a slightly glancing blow. They knew him well, yet were still not able to unpuzzle the conundrum. He would occasional score hits himself, an afterthought, as if completely absorbed in the magic he was brewing.
His record speaks for itself even without knowing how he fought. He made the complicated look easy. And.......he rarely trained, and smoked like a chinmey. I've seen his corner gathed around him between rounds whilst he had a few puffs oon a cigarette. Unique.

Locche is known to be one of the top 3 defensive boxers of all time. Next to guys like Pernell Whitaker, Wilfred Benitez and Willie Pep.

If he was around in this era and he trains properly without doesnt smoking etc then he would be the top guy in boxing right now.
He was a JWW so chances are he'd have fought Floyd or Pac at sometime and I honestly can't see him beating either of them, he makes them both look foolish at times but loses a decision to both, possibly a TKO against Pac due to cuts, Locche didn't exactly have the thickest of skin.
He gives Floyd problems but doesn't have the offensive arsenal to do the necessary damage and Floyd isn't going to be throwing anything uneeded to give Locche openings, dull dull fight with not much happening at all.
It's a real shame we only have highlights of his fight with Ortiz, I'd give my left bollock for the full thing.
Not even remotely similar styles of defense. Locche was all head movement with incredible twitch reactions (probably the best pure head movement ever), and had fairly lackluster offense behind it. A true natural who rarely trained and smoked in the corner between rounds on some occasions.
Pretty much this. It wasnt just head movement but he also had a "shoulder" roll he used amazingly. Dude was supremely talented but was unfortunately not blessed physically. He had like an amoeba body with no power to speak of. But damn was he amazing. He made s hit look choreographed like he knew what would happen before it did. One of my favorite defensive fighters all time.

Locche is my all time favorite.
