this would be an action-packed war from the opening bell and should definitely be made sometime 2013. even though both fighters are under rival promoters (GB and TP) who's had differences in the past, that should not be enough reason not to give boxing fans a fight to remember.
rios is a guy who just straight up loves to fight and trades a lot of punches with bad intention. he's undefeated (lost to abril though scorecards show otherwise), does have a solid chin and some head movement but subpar footwork.
as for matthysse, he's more of a ferocious boxer-brawler with a high percentage of ko wins.
if the fight were to take place, i see every minute of every round to be filled with fireworks, both fighters exchanging bombs in the middle of the ring. but as they reach the middle rounds, i think rios will start to welt as he takes more punishment from matthysse's crisp right hands and starts to get pushed to the ropes. matthyyse wins 12th round TKO.
your thoughts?
i love both guys but rios gets stopped here, he punches hard, but not as hard as lucas and he eats bomb after bomb, and the funny thing is he loves this, and you can eat bomb after bomb from matthysse, even though he has a granite chin he looks soft to the body and lucas has a hell of a left hook. i hope it doesn't happen since i'm a big fan of both, i don't enjoy when to guys that i follow fight, don't know you guys
Rios would finish him in under 6 rounds..He would wear him down with non stop pressure just imagine if john molina kept punching and connecting that fight would have went a different direction
rios has never faced a guy with lucas' power, and lucas has faced guys with rios power
Yeah that's a very good point. I mean if I had to throw down cash on it, I'd ride with LM for sure, just saying that it would be no easy out for him.
Credit to John Molina and his tremendous heart, chin, and above average power, but the fact that Matthysse went life & death with him through the first half or whatever of tonight's fight -- that doesn't bode well for him. Rios is a better fighter than Molina, period.
And Rios is a gotdamn zombie. You could blast that f**ker with a 12 gauge and he'll still keep coming forward. Hasn't been stopped in 34 career fights. Even with as much power as Lucas got, I doubt he stops Bam Bam's zombie ass. And Rios can punch, man. If Molina can bring down Lucas then so can Rios.
I'm not saying Rios would win but it would be a tough as sh*t fight for Matthysse. Anybody who thinks it would be easy is high as f**k and apparently missed tonight's fight.
rios isn't known for massive power, and say what you want about john molina, dude can crack and is known for it

He just like getting caught on the inside but thats where he enjoys it, he isn't a medium to long range fighter, he has a superior jab to and a better left hook.
All in all, it's a close fight and the edge is with Matt but I'm not saying rios has no chance cos he does, especially if he can wear down the smaller man.
Last thing...
Look at how much boxing and moving and work rate Manny Pacquiao had to do just to beat Rios.
I just don't see Matthysse outboxing Rios.
I don't know. Matthysse is easily sucked into an inside war of attrition. Look at the John Molina fight. I don't see Rios losing an inside fight against Matthysse. And Matthysse isn't a mover. Rios would find him easy.
Only major disadvantage is Rios' lack of power at 140. Great at 135. He's got power but he wouldn't be the bigger hitter at 140.

Thurman is a better mover but Matt is much better than Rios but yeah Rios is that side advantage. Anyway, I didn't say he'd stop Rios, but he would beat him on points.

Matthysse doesn't move enough to beat Rios like that. You have to box Rios. The only guy who I think stops him like the way you described is Keith Thurman.
Rios is bigger than Matthysse also.

Rios is easy to hit and Matthysse is a fast very hard puncher with almost all of his fights ending with him the winner by KO. Rios is tough and game but he can be hurt and knocked down. Matthysse will KO Rios in my opinion and he does not need to wear him down. He can flatten Rios whenever he lands his bombs including the first round. Rios has good power but I think he will be getting hurt to much to land his own bombs and I have never seen Matthysse hurt in a fight. He is just as tough as Rios and a better boxer and a harder puncher.
Oh, he's hurtable.
I think Rios is tougher and the better inside fighter.
I agree, Rios has a better chin and better recuperative powers but Matt is more skilled and a quicker fighter too, he uses the ring a lot more too. I think this is as brutal as long as it lasts but Lucas' power and better skills will give him the win.
I think this is the level Matt should be fighting at, just below elite, every time he takes a step up, he gets beat.

You're kind of right about that. He can take a punch but he's not indestructible, naw meen?

i totally agree with maniac on everything he said, i can picture rios winning but mathysse has serious power, lucas will be in a different kinda war where he really will see how his chin holds up, lucas will be seenn how he handles inside, lucas can win this only by tko cause rios wont quit
I can see Rios' in fighting overwhwleming Matthysse. You have to box Rios otherwise you get overtaken by a tornado of punches.
