they are two of the most exciting and dominant fighters within the lower weight division. rigo's golden pedigree vs. salido's hard knox experience would make for a great selling point. rigo is currently the WBA 122-champion and salido is the WBO 126 champ.
for a moment, let's forget about donaire or mares and imagine rigo went up in weight to challenge salido for his belt. i see the bout to be a hi octane offensive fight and the action would live up to the hype but i foresee salido slowly take control in the late rounds after rigo takes too much of salido's overhand rights and starts to slow down. salido wins by TKO
your thoughts?
Salidos awkwardness (head down bull lunge) seems to give boxers trouble. I think Rigo wins in a close bout.
I can't say enough how much I cannot stand Salidos style of fighting. From the way he uses his head, to the way he throws his punches, it's not for me...
hmmm curious. im goin with salido. grit and experience :boxing:
Grit and experience?
Punching someone on the nuts infront of the referee and having the referee ignore it?
Hmmm...
Rigo would run circles around that clown Salido sticking him with the jab here and there and just completely outclass him It'd be more one sided than the Donaire fight.
Be interesting to see. I think movement gives Salido fits, Loma just had nothing to keep him off of him.
No jab, nothing. What even was the point of all that movement to just let him walk right back in and tee off?
Interesting fight though for the fact I would like to see Rigo against a good honest pressure fighter. Pity the fight with Poonsawat fell through. Still think that was a tougher fight stylistically than Donaire.
Siri is considerably bigger than Rigo, so that's always a concern, but I'm confident Guille can take him at this stage. Salido has seen better days, and Rigo looks fresh.
The Poon fight not happening was a letdown. I hope he's doing well. The fight was cancelled over some disease he's suffering from.
I wonder how people view this fight now. At this point, Rigo takes Siri to school.

I'd feel confident that Rigo would have pretty comfortably handled the Salido we saw Lomachenko fight. Salido in 2012? We'd probably have a fight on our hands.
he is small and has limited reach, but they said the same thing to gamboa who is reported to move up even to 140 or 147 lbs. division. so rigo moving up 1 weught division is not a forgone conclusion
Gamboa may be short and kinda stubby, but he's also jacked and has been blowing up after weighin for a while. Rigo barely gains any weight fight night, so he's smaller than most super bantams. Now 122 is hot, but that just happened. I don't understand why he didn't turn pro at 115, he could have picked up belts moving up. This way he moves up to feather, and is grossly outsized by almost everyone.
salido's too strong , too big for rigo
hell even i think it's the most dangerous fight for nonito at 26 and thats including gamboa
true, donaire can be hit, but he can also adjust, donaire i think has better overall boxing skills than salido and schools him
True but tbh I think Rigo was declining before he went pro, I think Salido would knock him out for sure and I'd put a lot of money on it. I have a feeling Rigo will be knocked out sometime soon, not necessarily that he naturally has a weak chin, I just can't imagine a fighter with his kind of background, rigorous amateur training and hundreds of fights, not having taking a serious toll, especially given his age and size.
true rigo has tons of mileage and plus he's already 32 yrs old surprisingly, but salido is the same age as rigo, has also gone through plenty of wars at the pro level without protective head hear, so in terms of wear and tear, both are on even par. rigo has the skill but salido has more heart, and the one with more heart wins
Rigo is small at 122, and he'll be even smaller at 126. He'd be at an even bigger size disadvantage @ FW against Nonito. Rigo should try to campaign for as long as his body allows him to.

why not? rigo should not wait for mares or donaire. if bigger fights are in the horizon, then i think he should go after them. mares and/or donaire will eventually move up anyways, so rigo has a head start

Salido is a brawler with a size advantage. Rigo either thoroughly out-boxes him or gets hurt and stopped. I wanna see how Rigo looks against Poonsawat first, as that'll be his first time having to deal with a similar style. I'll favor Salido just because we don't know how Rigo would look @126. It's a fight that shouldn't be on the radar anyway.

On that note how do people think Rigo vs Mares would go? An interesting fight imo. Would love to see just how slick Rigo really is.
not slick enough, i'd venture.
rigo doesn't have "it" for 12 rounds. he's got "it" in spots. sometimes he looks like one of the greats, but it's only for tiny portions of each round.

agree. rigo would probably slip everything early on, and siri might even spend a round or two just staring at him, the way most of his opponents, do, but 12 rounds is a long time.

siri catches up to him and knocks him out.
cosizzle.
you can bet your ass top rank isn't making this fight anytime soon
