Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO) is a legitimate contender in the middleweight division. But he is not a star, and he's got a long way to go before he builds his name enough that he could face the likes of Sergio Martinez, says Martinez's promoter, Lou DiBella.
"Who would give a flying ****, and why are you even asking? Who knows Gennady Golovkin other than you, me and a few other people? How many people would he bring to the table? How much money would he generate? ... He is a very good fighter, but it's a fight that economically makes no sense."
But Martin Murray makes economical sense? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck huh.
Why are you bringing up an old article, that was back when GGG had just come into the scene.
Why don't you check this articles:

I think chances are we'll see this fight unless a more lucrative fight comes up for Sergio. The real question is whether we'll ever see Sergio at his best again, which I hope (with the rest he's getting) we will.
Thats what I said. It sucks.
He wont be the same again. He wasnt even himself against Murray let alone another injury and another year off. He might be done.
Great now Martinez might not even fight again. Atleast at a high level.
We'll never see this fight.

According to promoter Lou DiBella, reigning WBC titlist and true middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has reached out to tell his team that he's got no problem fighting Gennady Golovkin next year, though DiBella wisely says that it won't be the first fight back for Sergio, who is currently recovering from several injuries suffered over his last two fights.

"He said that history will show that he has embraced every challenge available to him in his career. His legacy will be that he was always willing to fight the best. Right now, his concentration is on healing and rehabilitation and he will not fight until sometime in the first half of 2014. He wanted to make it clear that he is willing to fight Gennady Golovkin in the future. Any conversations now about timing would be premature and inappropriate," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.

We'll never see this fight.Martinez waiting for the "future" to dispose of Floyd for a major fight.
I also scored it it for Sturm, and I don't think Murray deserved to win. But I don't think it's crazy to call it a legit draw. There were enough close toss up rounds to make a respectable case for for a draw.
where Murray getting a draw was in fact a gift on his part.
Dude, you yourself scored it a draw.
In the round by round thread:
Sturm will keep his title by 3 points. I saw it as a draw
Yep, I thought Macklin beat Sturm. It was shocking with the Murray draw not only because Sturm should have won but because it was ruled a draw in Germany. That's why no one cared cause usually the bad decisions went the other way up to that point.
The majority of people's reactions were "Well, they robbed Macklin so I guess this evens it out"
Over time it has somehow changed into "Murray was robbed!!!" which is absolutely laughable in every way.
Most people were shocked that Murray was competitive, which, to his credit, his was. More competitive than anyone expected and did win a few rounds.
But, absolutely no way did he win the fight. And the vast majority, including UK Media, felt he didn't win the fight and was lucky to get the draw.
Yea a lot of people are clearly confusing the 2. Macklin had a legit draw with Sturm and a win in his favor would have been fine, where Murray getting a draw was in fact a gift on his part.
Macklin actually lost :lol1: Most felt he won though. He racked up most of the early rounds so there's a big argument for him winning.
Murray however clearly lost and somehow got a draw :lol1:
Two very bizaree situations.
I think you should try re-scoring. Because there is simply no way Murray won the fight.
Are you sure you're not getting mixed up with Macklin? Who did infact almost beat Sturm? In which most felt he won (I thought it was close that could have gone either way but the vast majority felt it was a robbery).
I know what you meant when you said "Practically beat Sturm". I know you didn't mean "Beat up" It's plain to see he didn't "Beat him up".
He didn't "beat him" either.

Listen cunt, I already said maybe Sergio would destroy Golovkin but the point is giving him a shot. If you noticed I've been talking specifically about DiBella's hypocrisy. I'm sure Sergio would fight anyone.
Kill that nonsense about Murray being a showcase fight. He's zero risk which is why Sergio is fighting him, period. They are chasing a pipe dream of fighting Floyd which will never happen, thus these no risk fights.
I have no idea why you would oppose a unification bout against two of the best middleweights. Its actually fans like you that support this BS that gives boxing a bad name. The best are supposed to fight the best and that's what fans should want. Not making excuses for showcase fights.

i think the risk/reward for sergio doesn't make much business sense. i can't really hate on him much because he's in the twilight of his career and deserves to milk his fame as much as he can before he retires. that said, i still want him to face ggg.
You don't really expect me to remember the rounds that I scored for Murray do you? I watch it live and scored it for Murray but knew he might not get the decision, When I said he practical beat Strum I was referring to the "Draw" scorecard, I didn't mean he "practical beat up" strum so yea big difference.

He clearly didn't though.
What rounds did you give Murray?
I can't see any logical way you could have given him more than a maximum of 5 rounds, maximum.

How did he practically beat Sturm? Why has this myth risen from thin air?
I understand the guys who aren't from the UK just seeing the Draw and presuming it was a robbery.
But why are people from the UK who watched the fight saying it. You watched the fight didn't you? Do you actually think Murray should have won?
Because pretty much every single piece of Media outside of people connected to Hatton promotions thought Sturm won and won quite clearly. And that includes the majority of ringside scorer's.
In reality, Murray was very very lucky to get that draw. He may have shocked everyone in not getting totally dominated. But, he did not win that fight.
yea I thought he won.
Murray is a showcase fight, I sorry that I have to educate you on that not trying to play "Dumb", I only educate dumb boxing fans and didn't really consider you one before this post, He has made himself relevant by going to Germany and practically beating sturm and he is British which makes him an attractive options when selling a fight in Argentina especially against a Briton (For the uneducated ones Argentina hates Britain because of the Falklands war), GGG has probably just had two fights and Martinez is already ducking him? You really lack boxing knowledge, People like you have to continue using your hype because it would make the fight bigger I guess, but the notion that GGG is this beast that is been avoided is nothing short of fanboyism and a joke, GGG has class and knew he has to work his way up to finally get his chance at the top names, the same definitely can't be said for all these bandwagon jumpers like yourself who class any class or knowledge.

Sergio would be fighting Rios if it was up to him! Their getting ready to fight Junior who they just beat 11 out of 12 rouns!!! What does that tell you?
I have no problem with pcking up the pennies especially at the end of a career but its time for HIM to actually fight someone. If any Sergio fans think Junior is someone why did they say that Sergio was going to defeat him so easily? Either fight someone with "letters" or the number one contender, isn't that what supposed champs do? Ray
I want Martinez to take this fight. Currently, Golovkin probably is little more than high risk, low reward, but as he continues to get dates on HBO the fight will mean more and should garner more attention. Given Martinez's age, I say do it this year. I have Martinez winning maybe 8-4 with a few scary moments. I think it would be a great fight, and I'd love to see it.
Sergio vs GGG in the Garden or AC would be good $$$ if u ask me.
Sergio would break 3G to pieces man, way too easy to hit. Get a reporter to ask Sergio about 3G, he'll tell you the truth. His promoter is going to say some other stuff.....I can't see Martinez being afraid of any fighter.
DiBella should've noted the risk/reward factor doesn't make sense... not just economcally makes no sense in general... because his lineup already economically makes no sense.
It's implicit, but he has said it explicitly in the past. I remember he specifically said Golovkin was too high risk for the reward in the Boxing Lab a while back.
Listen cunt, I already said maybe Sergio would destroy Golovkin but the point is giving him a shot. If you noticed I've been talking specifically about DiBella's hypocrisy. I'm sure Sergio would fight anyone.
