He has to get there, and thats a big prob with donaire. His pressure is intelligent for the most part but he does rush a lot. Thats when he's vulnerable.
I obvioisly dont see nonito winning on points unless he has about 3-4 kds and the ref doesnt deduct points for grabbing mares' head when mares goes low 15 times
all good and fair points.
if they fight it will be so goddamn legit. we'll see what it look like! i got mares on points for them odds. i will be bombed and smoking top grade weed.
he was actually with berastein for a while, and came up as a boxer puncher with some technical ability. he boxed some with with darchinyan, agbeko, perez, for example
he's moved away from that, but he's still got a style more suited for winning rounds at 122 lbs than donaire, who preferes to say far away and sharpshoot with one or two bombs.
if he's all the way on the inside on doniare he's safe. that's honestly the safest place to be against a power puncher. he needs to stay away from the middle distance, which i think he can do. vasquez JR put forward a strong showing with his boxing, and mares is certainly a class above him.

That's not Mares style. It's something he had to do to Moreno because of his height and reach advantage. That's exactly how you fight a taller fighter.
Donaire is just as rangy as Moreno. Hope there's a plan B
Donaire beats Mares like he owes him money. Donaire is a big, strong, fast, extremely hard hitting fighter with incredible timing. If you expect to beat him by rushing in with your head down and flailing away you are going to get stopped. Moreno will run and move constantly from a pressure fighter, which he has done in plenty of fights. But when Moreno stood and fought he actually landed cleanly pretty easily. Donaire doesn't have to run nor is it his style. Donaire landing cleanly on Mares is a whole different ballgame from having Moreno land on you clean. What is Donaires knock out % compared to Morenos? Yep. Mares got away with what he did last night because Moreno has nothing powerful coming back to keep him off. Donaire wont have to do much to get his respect.

Chill, lol. But TBH I rather see Mares there at #5 over Donaire. You would hear no complaints from me if they move Donaire down to #10 where Moreno wrongfully* was, meaning he didn't even belong there. Unfortunately, Donaire will beat Arce and will "further prove" his status as one of the "top 5 P4P" fighters of the sport lol.
Mayweather, Ward, Martinez, Marquez, Wladimir, Mares, Froch, Pacquiao, Bradley, Donaire, Vitali. That is my top 11 P4P list.
But if Martinez beats Pac and Floyd.....two fellow p4p fighters in the top 3, he is cherry picking and he drops out of the top 10, lol.
Martinez should forget Pacquaio and concentrate on top opposition like Martin Murray.
Undefeated!!

Mares showed that he needs a rest period after every onslaught, and that's when he's most vulnerable. If Nonito has enough energy to take advantage, then Mares could very well find himself on the canvas. Moreno stunned Mares a couple of times and hurt him to the body too. I don't see Nonito winning if he doesn't go to the body.
Good points, but as long as Mares doesn't get K.O.'d, keeps the pressure on and keeps busy I could easily see him getting the W, just like last night a lot of people didn't give him a chance to win!
1. Mayweather
2. Pacquiao
3. Ward
4. Martinez
5. Donaire
Who does he overtake on that list? No one. Not even close.
I have Pacquiao at number 4 and could easily be overtaken by Mares. For me beating Moreno, Agbeko 2x, Morel, Vic and as a personal opinion I had him beating Perez too, is a lot better than beating Bradley (I had Pac winning), Margarito and Mosley and losing to Marquez twice.
P4P list is based on personal opinion, that's why I'm considering those results and not the "official" ones.
Lets not get carried away. Mares is a good fighter, but he is not on the same level as guys like Rigondeaux, or Donaire.
What happened last night was that we found out that Moreno wasn't quite as good as people made him out to be. Never though Moreno was that good, I always compared him in my mind to a Christian Mijares in the way people were over rating him.
Mares fought a great fight last night, but there are CLEAR flaws in his game that are there to be exploited.
I don't think Moreno was overrated, he fought a very good fight against a very dirty fighter with no help from the ref. It's more that Mares was underrated, and capable of things people like myself did not think he was capable of.
Also, Moreno's lack of power hurt him bad last night. For most the fight, Mares had ZERO respect for the punches he was getting hit with. That's a serious problem in any fight.

I think you'll get some flack for this, but I agree somewhat. One difference, while both lack power, Mijares likes to sit in the pocket and counter, Moreno likes to run around a lot
Mares would not be so willing to walk in headfirst against a punches such as Donaire or Rigondeaux.
again, i don't think mares has an easy time fighting donaire, instead i think the cards will favor mares style. he's just got to watch for the bombs.
i do think mares would have an "easy" time with rigo
as easy as it can be against a pure counterpuncher who has been a top cuban amateur since he was a boy
mares is much bigger, has a good chin, and if there's a fighter at the lower weights who is less steady than donaire it's rigo. if he's not looking like a spectacular counterpuncher (which he does for portions of all of his fights,) he's looking like an amateur
i'm not getting carried away with last night's fight. rigo is unproven compared to mares, who has fought top fighters at 118 and now is doing the same at 122. i've been wathcing mares since he was a prospect, and i know what he's got to a much greater degree than what we saw last night.
I would favor Mares, but know could go either way on the decision. Also really doubt Mares being K.O.'d, If Donaire somehow did KO Mares that would solidify his P4P rankings!
