Juan Manuel Marquez
Brandon Rios
Danny Garcia
Amir Khan
Marcos Maidana
Lucas Matthysse
Those are my picks... how would you match them up?
Would really like to have Victor Ortiz in there though...
ridiculous. the super six featured 4 americans, 3 euros, and a jamaican. 5 black dudes, and 3 white dudes. that's a regular benatton ad uh?
its about the best fighting the best, not a UN summit meeting about climate change.
Most people who don´t follow boxing will not give a damn about the best, they just want to see one of ¨theirs¨ having a shot at winning the tournament,if the organizers want to maximize profits, that is what will put asses into seats as you need to target the widest amount of audience possible. The Super Six worked partly because of that and partly because those guys are really the best at SMW.And by saying 3 euros you are really over-simplifying things, one was armenian-german,other dannish and one english, that´s a wide audience, throw the americans in the mix and you have an even bigger one.
I don't see why there can't be a Super 8, not to be confused the motel.
Just make it 8, single elimination, and you could finish it in 12-16 months, not over 2 years.
Agreed. The Elite 8, and rank them 1vs8, 2vs7, and so on. :boxing:
The great thing about the super 6 was that you had 4 relatively known names (Kessler, Abraham, Froch, Taylor) and 2 up and coming talented prospects (Ward and Dirrel). THe fighters all would benefit by the added exposure.. I like the idea of another tournament for a division, but In retrospect I think 6 people isn't the perfect number. After the initial round robin there were already 2 replacements with Direll injured and Taylor retiring (Or just dropped out i forget).
A 4 or 8 man tourney would be much better imo for the logistical side of it because so many problems can happen when you have a group type set up.
The super six format took way way way too long and locked guys in for like 3 years.
Top guys need to fight each other, its that simple, but nobody really wants to get f'd up by Matthesye
horrible ideas:
Marquez in any sort of classic format. he shouldn't be involved at all.
It should be a straight up tourney. a classic type situation is just isn't feasible in boxing. too many variables.
We have golden boy and top rank guys on there too, another big problem. (unfortunately)
Remove Khan immediately
That list wouldn´t work,at least not on a worldwide scale, most of those fighters would only cater to latin american audiences, for a tourney like that to work they would need to have more racial diversity.

Adam,
So his schooling from Floyd wasnt a legit loss? Youre obviously a deluded fanboy if thats your opinion.
Tell me what was Marquez' biggest win. Im waiting . . . . . .
Im struggling to understand why some people think Marquez wins a potential tournaments hands down when he is almost 40 and never won a super fight in his life.
Good fighter and might start as favourite if it did happen but whats his best win? He's been beat by Norwood and John, dominated by Floyd and failed to beat Pac after 3 attempts. His best win on paper was probably over a washed up Barrera where he got outlanded and dropped so I dont see why the guy has a rep for being so formidabble.
He is a top light welter but I dont see him being that far ahead of the rest.
This will probably be the last time he'll fight pac but i seriously doubt he'd do a tourney like this at his age and at this stage in his career. For the record i think he'd beat most at 140 head to head and i would love to see him pick apart these young fighters. However I think tourneys like this are for people looking for exposure, for example the 168 tournament no one came into it particularly popular (in america at least), and he already has it, maybe a fight against the winner of the 140 tourney would suit best? though he would be very old by this point...
I dont think he is desperate for money, the fights against floyd and manny have probably set him up for a good while if he is smart with his money,
i wouldn't put it against him doing it honestly. but it also wouldn't surprise me at all if he did end up fighting pacquiao again if he did win.
the only other fight out there for him is a bradley fight.
we'll how many times is he supposed to fight pacquiao?
another floyd fight will never happen, a cotto fight might be a possibility if he's that desperate, which i don't think he is.

Not sure Marquez would be game for this, hes in his 40's (Edit: nearly 40) now and needs to looking at cashing out (eg the Pac fight). I seriously doubt he would take a three fight contract against very dangerous opposition esp as some of them dont bring in big numbers...
that being said love the idea! such a stacked division with fighters who can all beat each other! Plus a good chance for fighters like Matthysse to put their names on the map

that would be amazing. khan can sit his ass down somewhere though. i wouldn't mind vic, or joesesito, and guzman included as well.

I would take Amir Kahn off and put Alvarado...we've seen enough of him. But you can have 8 man tourney and really go hard. There needs to be more of this. The Super Six could have been greater than it was if more were involved and it was single elimination. Although the Round Robin is great because it offers other cool matchups, its not as good if there aren't more contestants

This. All day.
