He'd been a pro for about 3 years and (looking at his boxrec record) it doesnt looks like he beat world class opponets/contenders. Does anyone here remember when he was coming up as a fighter, did he just capture fans imagination?
  :
ownage.
Tito was alright and was a prospect, so their your answer.
you dont remember crap you just went on box rec. Those fights weren't even televised

Lame ass nerds.
damn that's a bad ass, sig.
did you use a special filter?
and agreed, after Hopkins he suddenly sucked
yeah he did but he quit for like 4 years. we really dont know how he would of been if he stayed active
Does it really matter? He still beat the sh*t outta the champ & went on to defend his belt against worthy comp.
On a side note, if only Tito & Marg fought in the same era. Would've loved to have seen Tito decapitate him.

ok d***head, ur badly mistaken about the handwrap situation with Tito. Nazim said out of his own damn mouth tht he saw no illegal substance in Tito's handwraps, he was just not happy with way his hands were wraped, there was no plasters of paris or anything of tht sort, so cut the bulls****.Go look up the interview b4 u go running ur mouth.
He probably didn't do much to deserve it but I know what he did to win that fight! I is amazing how people get bent out of shape by Trinidad's wraps incident. The issue with his wraps was excess gauze! Please go back and watch some of his fights. Look at how much he commits behind each left hook. Do you really think that some extra gauze will do all that damage? Also take in consideration the fact that his opponents never got disfigured ala Cotto vs Margarito! He simply put them out to sleep! Again, does some extra gauze in your wrapping can do that? The only people that had a problem with that was the NY commision so....don't you think that any other boxer out there would've used the same strategy to their advantage? If that was the case, he would've had a lot of Trinidad's in the 90's because every body would've been wrapping their hands the same way! Common people, the guy had serious power period! Stop the unecessarry hate! I can understand some discomfort with the issue but it is getting comical lately!Very well said. Trinidad was one of the hardest punchers in history and his hand raps had nothing to do with his great punching power. The speed of his punches combined with the perfect technique and turning his weight into his punches gave him his power. Extra gauze only protects his hands and adds no power to the punches. The way he wrapped his hands was and is legal everywhere but New York as far as I know. Lots of people though Trindad deserved the win over Oscar including the boxing writers for Oscar's hometown newspaper, The L.A. times. They don't talk about it all the time because Trinidad got the win. Oscar was very popular in the USA and his fans thought he got robbed which is what happens when a popular star loses a close fight. Oscar would not rematch him for a reason. Trinidad is going to the hall of fame. He is a real all time great.
Bash tito again thread it seems. The dude was a hell of a fighter. We need guys like him in boxing today. Im sure if he was mexican he would be an icon of the sport but since he isnt. he gets bash for all kinds of dumb shyt. The dude is a pressure come forward fighter like marg. Why do you guys hate on him. Some people have 2 much pride for the wrong reasons.
He deserved a tittle shot in my opinion and he proved it by winning the tittle with a 3rd round ko and defending successfully 15 times with 12 KOs. He was only 20 years old when he won the tittle. He won all of his fights at 147 and 154.
Here's a question... Was the champion Tito beat at that time a huge P4P star? Or did he just have a belt?
Its not like he don't still see THAT particular formula to this day... "Give a prospect a belt to make him more marketable"
At least Tito ended up having a great career
You made a painting of a defeated man? For what purpose? Pathetic.
These guys simply can't take puertorrican men out of their mouths. Just strange that they always get on any PR topic just to say something negative

He did nothing. His record didn't have anybody even good at the time. All they had was a good looking prospect unless he was already signed with Don King

Sure they were.
Didn't Jake Rodriguez become a Champion. I remember Jake lost his belt to kosta Tszyu. I remember Jake bc he was the first fighter Tito didn't KO.
EDIT: Also I remember Alberto Cortez, he had a great record with good power. He almost stopped trinidad in the 2nd round. I remember Cortez was good, he lost to JCC sr as an undefeated fighter.
Rodriguez wasn't a big win. Jake didn't upset Murry for the IBF 140 title til a year after Trinidad got his title.
Trinidad didn't have alot of names on his record but got his ranking by being undefeated and being impressive in his wins. Even the win over Blocker wasn't thought of as that impressive at the time because Blocker was just destroyed by Terry Norris in an attempt at the 154 belt. Trinidad's rep grew in time though and was really magnified by the way he handled the 154lb'rs and Joppy at 160.
I had De La Hoya winning by two rounds, it should of been a draw because Trinidad did not do **** to Oscar and because Oscar ran like a puta!!
