so what did Marquez and Hatton do at welter to deserve a fight there?
nothing. try again.
Glad you mentioned those guys.
Yes they did nothing at welterweight before moving up to fight Floyd(aside from Hatton-Collozo) And look what happened to them. Hatton got his first loss, Marquez got the boxing lesson of a life time.
It would have made MUCH more sense for them to have a fight at 147 before going after the number 1 guy there. But of course no boxer wants to pass up an opportunity to fight Floyd($$$).
BUT THE DIFFRENCE IS
Marquez was the number 1 guy at 140 lb division, there's not much left he can do
Hatton was the number 1 guy at the 140 lb division, there's not much left he can do
Rios is NOT the number 1 guy at the 140lb division and you think it's okay for him to take on the number 1 guy at 147?
It takes a real special fighter to jump up in a weight class and take on it's number 1 guy. And sorry, I know you are Mexican and Rios is Mexican and you feel a deep connection, but Rios is not a special fighter.
Okay forget the belts, Rigo has done more in the division that Nonito is in, then Rios has in the division that Pacquiao is in.

so now belts matter? for years we heard they didn't.

Rigo has the WBA 122lb title, which is the the SAME class Nonito is in.
Rios has the WBO Latino 140lb title, which is NOT the same class Pacquiao is in.
