I don't think his fighting style is healthy, especially in the 140lb division where he will be up against fighters who can hit hard. The Man gets hit with too many clean shots I think if he's placed in the ring with Matthysse his career will start to decline.
He can do 3 fights a year for the next 4 years, just not all fights like last nights. He's always gonna take punches to give them, but most fighters he faces won't fight him the way Alvarado did. Now if his next fights are Pacquiao and Matthyse he isn't lasting another 4 years.
He's already showing early signs of an aged fighter. His major problem is that he is too slow. He was eating way too many punches from a naturally larger and slower boxer, while absorbing maybe some 2 to 3 head shots for everyone he landed in return. Additionally, I've noticed some cumulative effects from all the punches he has absorbed in his legs, even at a higher weight class, which is an ominous sign for a young boxer too. At times, it appeared that his knees were being slightly buckled by some of the punches he was taking from Alvarado. In my opinion, at this point; It's just a matter of time before he gets eventually stopped as he steps up his level of competition in his career. Pacquiao, Marquez or even Broner are not good career choices for him at this moment.
If his next 4-5 fights are as vicious as the one last night then you will begin to notice a severe deterioration in his skills, legs, and punch resistance. You simply cannot take a beating like that and have a long career.
Rios will have a very short reign at the top I promise you that. Last nights fight has probably taken something out of him.
Hey, its his career. My point was you won't see this guy fighting in ten years. I hope for his sake he's smart with the money he earns.
i know you said @ 31 years old , he might be shot.. if he fights 3 times a year until he's 31 he'll have 47 fights ..so my point stands..
If he fights like that 3 times a year he's going to be brain dead in four years. Its an exciting style just not a very a smart one.
fighters fight 3 times a year all the time as rios.. ..even he fought 4 times in 2008...
When you have Robert Garcia it makes a world of a difference and i believe not too many.I was trying to tell a poster that last night, then they brought up Margarito.I had to laugh, 3 fights later he retired. It was a hardcore fight not many guys can dish out.Rios is by far a non complete fighter but allot of fun to watch.I referred to him as a monster for taking those shots any other boxer wouldve quit on.FOTY in my opinion.
Way to put some perspective on it. You're an objective, non-cry baby boxing fan I can tell.
Idiot...
Anyway, back to reality.. .If he keeps fighting the way he does, he might be shot by age 31. But, that's the career he chose, too late for him to change now.
it's true tho..
and rios got 32 fights right now..he's 26...if he figths 3 times a year , he outlasts floyds carreer in 4 years..

hes already kinda punchy
As long as he doesn't fight the boxer mover type then am sure he can be at the top for another 5-6 fights, He should just keep fighting the face first zero ring intelligence fighters, that way he can prolong his career.
