I hate to say it..but Bob Arum is on a rampant mission to ruin this sport..
The stoppage can be argued either way..fact is..Alvarado was hurt but not out..Benavidez Jr was WAYYY more hurt than Alvarado was and was given an entire minute to flop around grab on and kill time..the moment Rios rocked Alvarado the ref looked ready to hop in..
But as I stated that could be argued..I, along with Rios, believe it was too early..
but the CARDS!...seriously..the referees had it 4-2 for Rios?..GTFO!..no way in hell did Rios take 4 rds of that fight..a Draw MAYBE or 4-2 Alvarado is what it was...but the refs had their minds set on who they were gonna give the decision to no matter who actually won the fight..
Alvarado was gonna get jobbed no matter what tonight...it's depressing to see we still support Top Rank events when we all have been victims of Bob Arum's fixes...no more Top Rank PPV purchases from me..I hope the REAL fans actually stop supporting this BS!.
This fight was exciting to watch and we all wanted to see more.
Scoring: 4-2 Rios was a stretch BUT 2 of 3 judges had it 3-3. That was not controversial as it was possible to score that 3-3. One can only question 1 judge who had it 4-2 but he wasn't that far off the mark.
Stoppage: Ref has a split second to judge. It probably could have gone a bit more but many people said it was a good stoppage. So even in this front, it was a judgement call.
Rios vs Abril .... now that was very questionable but not this one.
I thought the Nishioka fight was incredibly fishy too. He goes out of character and doesn't even try to win until there's a dramatic turning point as he got knocked down. Then the stoppage was bogus yet everyone acted as if it was completely fine. It's like the ref from the Rios fight planted a bug in our mind during his interview that it's completely acceptable for refs to do whatever the h3ll they want in stopping fights all in the name of protecting the fighters
It looked like they came for a payday and nothing more. First chance they got they (ie. Nishioka's corner) stopped the fight.
but can't blame anyone but Nishioka and his team on that.
This thread is so retarded.
Benvidez didn't take much if any more punishment after getting rocked, because he HELD ON.
Alvarado got rocked and then hit with about 8 unanswered punches.
Count how many clean unanswered shots Gatti took after that knockdown for me...
I had it 4-2 Alvarado, but I don't see the controversy in a 4-2 Rios card. The action was back and forth and Rios finished strong in most rounds. This fight was never going to the cards anyway.
yes, yes it was. but who's surprised? still props to rios for staying in there and getting this guy out though. bum bum was getting touched and outboxed till the stoppage.

lol at this crybaby thread. every round wasthisclose. even the fifth where Alvarado had his most success, Rios was in it. 4-2 the other way or 3-3 is not out of the question. IMO, during this telephone Booth fight, Rios was backing up Mike or standing his ground roughly 70% of the time. in a war like that where two guys are trying to impose their will, the fighter advancing forward more will probably get the nod. there was no fix in. you're just bitter because you probably lost money.
The reason why I scored this fight, was how evenly I thought these two matched up. I saw ebbs and flows in the fight, and actually saw an outside shot of it going the full 10, based on both guys toughness, even when taking such tremendous punishment.
I can see why you are angry, WC. You have a fight with these types of fighters, and you want to see a clear cut victory, with no possible chance of BS thrown in. I thought the stoppage was sound, though. My thinking was, Alvarado could have took a knee to clear his head. But who knows?I don't know if you're kidding with that 2nd to last sentence bu I LOL'd. :lol1:
I thought myself that the fight would reach the judges card.

I'm calm now..but I made a thread before about this..stating that refs get too involved too soon taking away some great fights away from us..
This fight had Steve Smoger written all over it!..but I think the best solution is an immediate rematch...Pacquiao Marquez is a level above both..even at this age and point of their careers..Rios-Alvarado are a good match and could go down as a great trilogy of the 2010's
This how I scored it.
Round 1: Rios.
Round 2: Alvarado.
Round 3: Rios.
Round 4: Alvarado.
Round 5: Alvarado.
Round 6: Rios.
So, three rounds apiece going into the 7th.
If anybody has a problem with my scorecard, feel free to flame, lol.
nope correct scorecard. i had it the same way. why did lederman give the third to alvarado? i was like wat!
I didn't score the fight by round, pea, but my overall impression was Alvarado was leading going to the 7th. I wouldn't mind watching over and over again. That was the greatest fight this year.
Pea I couldn't even argue a draw..I mean it was a back and forth WAR..personally I believe Alvarado's jab and combinations took more rounds..he had Rios' head wobblin all over...
but do you see 4-2 Rios justifiable?...can you defend that in favor of Rios?..

Garcia stops Rios?..I don't know about that bro..Rios showed his chin isn't something you should try to crack..and Garcia isn't exactly "Mosley-esque"..
and..I think Matthysse whoops everyone at 140 at this moment..
swift is all around better than alvarado and garcia is improving every fight
he stops both.. matthyse on the other hand is a sick fight

I wouldn't argue that..I can see it being a decent stoppage..I, personally, believe it was early..
what about those cards tho..what do you think?..
decent it is.
yeah the score card looks weird
I say a good stoppage, Alvarado wasn't punching back and totally defenseless. He live to fight another day, maybe a rematch.
yeah and it seems like he woudnt get kd and will just get more punishment
Benavidez was trying to gain experience and feel out that 8 rounds...he could've stopped Miranda at any point really..but his confidence came back to bite him in the ass!...
Garcia's left hook is vicious tho..I'm not too fond of him..but his grit is something to admire..I wanna see him and Rios or Alvarado go at it now..
he stops both.. matthyse on the other hand is a sick fight
You think? Lol Alvarado was clearly winning that fight. After he was hurt he was in the process of clinching and the ref jumped in the way to separate them and stop the fight. What type of sh*t is that? Then not to mention the scorecards. Like I said, Arum been talking about putting Rios vs Marquez or Pacquiao since the Gamboa (Abril) fight was talked about. He gave Rios the biggest gift ever and Rios was on his way to getting another one. Just so that he could face Pacquiao or Marquez. The dude is a bum a 50 year old Pacquiao or Marquez would beat the brakes off of him.Watch the 7th round again, Alvarado wasn't punching back. Good enough reason for the ref to stop the fight.
