Hey All,
I think this is a very good topic and I look forward to the replies. Why is the use such a big deal and looked upon so negatively? According to WADA,
Cannabis
The inclusion of cannabis on the Prohibited List continues to defy logic and has resulted in many athletes being
unfairly labelled as cheats. Cannabis has no proven performance enhancing properties yet continues to be included
on the list. The role of WADA is not to safeguard against improper drug use, it is there to combat cheating in sport
through doping. Cannabis is not a performance enhancer and should be removed from the list. In our experience,
athletes who have recorded anti-doping violations for cannabis have suffered disproportionate penalties for the
1 of 39‘crime’ they have committed. They have not used cannabis for performance enhancement yet, because of the strict
liability and inflexibility of the Code, they suffer significant sanctions and suspensions as well as dealing with the
social stigma of being labelled a cheat. In fact, a sportsperson who has smoked a small amount of cannabis faces
far harsher consequences than a civilian and that simply isn’t right.
We see no justification for its continued inclusion on the list. It consumes a disproportionate and unreasonable
amount of time and resource for ADO’s – which would be better spent finding genuine cheats.
So why the big deal?
I am not a Chavez Jr fan and I think he is an idiot for even messing with the drugs during a training camp. In my humble opinion, he should not be suspended. I agree with the fine though.
Its not like its some kind of secret that they test for marijuana. He knew this, smoked anyways and now he has to pay the penalty.
Hes not obligated to be a boxer, if he dont like the rules then leave or petition to change the rules. Dont wait until you get busted breaking rules you knew were there to ***** and say the penalties shouldnt apply to you.
You weed smokers are ****ing pathetic defending weed. If Floyd tested positive for marijuana against Cotto, you mother****ers would be ****ting all over him to this day. Any kind of SMOKE is harmful to the body anyway you stupid mother****ers. Weed can numb the body and mind of pain. Wtf is medical marijuana for? Foh with that legalize marijuana in boxing. You mother****ers think that saying you smoke is cool. A high mother****er won't ever become great.
preach......................
I like the response about being denied a job. If that is the case though, why not have random urinalysis throughout training camp? I feel like boxing is a sport where everything is ass backwards.....
Jobs test before you work and Boxing lets you work and then you get tested?
Makes no sense...
Some jobs don't even test you at all.
It's illegal in the US.
It's Legal with a Medical card in SEVERAL States here in the U.S., I would Imagine the Sober/Clean Boxer would have the Advantage Over the Stoner!

Rules are rules and fighters should take the game seriously, still I don't find it very serious so the punishment should fit the crime. I would have no issue with it just getting fined, escalating on other every other positive test (1,3,5 or 2,4,6) maybe classes at some point or public service announcements if the guy is big enough.
..........30 day suspension just as a TKO, HA! and a thousand dollar fine to the closest youth gym to the commissions offices! Three time offender pays 10,000.00 and its distributed to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America that have youth boxing programs. Also the tests itself will be paid by the managers of said fighter for misrepresentation! Whatever is on the books as an offense needs to be up held. Ray. .

This post just reminded me that they actually were tested randomly before this fight, at least once. (Edit: I tried to post two sources, but it's blocking one of my links. The one below works.)
Chavez Jr. and Martinez Both Negative
He obviously must have started to smoke after the tests, which makes it even more ridiculous. I smoke weed myself and don't really care about that he does it, but why start THEN?
One of the reasons I got behind that fight, besides being a JR fan myself, was because it was happening in Nevada and not Texas. I thought, OK, well they're finally going all in on JR and leaving the BS behind and making the Sergio fight on the up-and-up.
When I heard there was gonna be random urine testing, I felt even better about it. There must not have been any tests after the one in July, or whatever he was doing to circumvent the test didn't work on fight night.
you guys want an illegal substance to be overlooked by a sport commission? are you guys smoking crack? :*******:
thats all we need for the sport to start not caring about these kind of things...lets put more lack of organization and rules in boxing so not only is favortism shown and bouts manipulated...but now everyones high...
great idea...smh :*******:
lol finally a voice of reason in this thread.

it should, but only a $fine$ the First time. Repeats should get 2-3months and so on. wouldn't want a fighter to go into a fight stoned out of his mind, put himself or even the ref in danger.
Hell no it shouldn't be penalized
Millions of people smoke it everyday for medicinal purposes
The problem is that its against federal law yet cigs and alcohol are far worse and legal so that tells you what you need to know about that
