Zab had more boxing skills then Roy Jones, Zab was just weak mentally and was terrified of being hit to the body and he still is
Roy Jones did absolutely NOTHING that any Boxing Trainer would ever instruct his fighter to do, Roy Speed and Athleticism CARRIED HIM, once that started to Diminish...THIS STARTED HAPPENED:

Not saying Roy wasn't great, but looking back even if he would have ran into Tarver earlier in his PRIME I still think he would have lost just because of Tarver Style, he was just a SMART BOXER, even when they fought Roy was still the faster and more athletic fighter but Tarver just out-boxed him, he turned the game into a Chess Match instead of the fast pace Checkers match Roy Jones was so use to
You have to be trolling. Nothing in any post I've ever seen you post suggests you would actually mean this.
roy is the most overrated prime fighter of all time. both hopkins and toney are slower fighter than a prime floyd and landed on him. A lead right can hit anyone if setup right. Floyd doesn't just launch leads. He comes up with ways to land them. Judah was a south paw and cotto had a size advantage.

Wow. Just wow. Worst thing I've read this week. BTW losing at 35 is pretty normal in the sport. And finally...we're so far apart...let's just agree to disagree.
Couldn't be further from the truth. If that were the case, he'd be Zab Judah or Howard Davis. Not Roy Jones.

Give me Floyd!
Why? Because Floyd if a intelligent high in ring IQ Boxer very similar to Antonio Tarver, Tarver took away Roy's Speedy and Quickness advantage away with Timing and Patients
That is the advantage being SMART FIGHTER or a fighter who just depend on PHYSICAL SKILLS, you can adjust on the fly, you can figure out a fighters rhythm and ultimately take it away from him, Roy on the other hand, it was all about Speed and Athleticism for him, he got away with a lot in his PRIME because he was so faster and more athletic then EVERYBODY During his PRIME ERA
So like Tarver I think Mayweather, Patiently walks Roy done and slip in punches, also think that quick Jab down the middle to the Body would be EXTREMELY EFFECT against Roy Jones

Roy is such a stylistic nightmare for floyd. Roy by wide margin UD.
Exactly how I see it.
Roy Jones was the master pot-shotter - especially later in his career, he would have a field day with the defensive minded Floyd - especially cause he is quicker.
Tough to imagine this. Prime roy is more talented than prime floyd but talent dont always win. Would come down to adjustments that floyd would or wouldnt make. Ill take roy in a close one
Roy Jones had skills too. He was a lot more than just a Meldrick Taylor with fast hands that entered into exchange after exchange. You act like he's Jermain Taylor: a gifted athlete with a pair of gloves on.
He didn't use a traditional shell defense like Floyd and Toney but he was still very effective defensively own right. The main objective to defense is to not get hit and prime Roy rarely got hit.
Agreed. Mayweather actually gets hit more than Jones.
He says Roy was faster, but speed dont win fights, skills do. I dont care who's faster myself. I just know Floyd's defense is the difference. So his gameplan is to fight a defensive fight, and capitalize on the mistakes Roy makes, since his defense isnt as great. Whatever the difference is between the fighters, may make the difference. And again, Im not predicting who would win. Tough call.

Geez larry! How many time do we have to bring up this fantasy fight? And every time its the same! The masses see Roy Jones as the victor by way of obliteration over Floyd! His speed and power and natural athleticism triumphs Floyd and pretty much everyone elses.
I want to hear breakdowns and reasons why one would win please, educate me............
roy would be 160, floyd would be 135-140 so they'd have to fight at a cw of150 or so. Roy would be ineffective having to lose so much weight. he'd look like ODH coming in vs Manny. Floyd would be fast and healthy so floyd by easy wide UD or maybe even late stoppage because roy couldn't possibly make 12 rounds having lost so much weight.
Now if there is no catchweight and its 160lb roy vs 140 lb floyd-well floyd might have a small problem.
He just looked his best because JMM boxed him on the outside and couldnt close the distance and floyd schooled him easy. Judah he didnt open up enough the first few rounds and after roger told him to he fixed that and didnt loose another round after. DLH presented a tight defense and a good jab, which is what bothers floyd. Hatton was awkward because he has fast legs and likes to wrestle but after a few early rounds figuring him out floyd whooped his ass on the inside at hattons own game. He looks different every fight because he makes adjustments every fight and never fights the same.
No, Floyd was faster and had better reflexes against JMM. And his defense was more slick and pretty in that fight. He was slow against Judah and Hatton. Against Oscar he was just about to retire, and not passionate anymore.
Thanks for that. It's perfect for this thread. I remember the prime Jones as being faster than Floyd and here is the proof if you believe Griffin, and I do. Speed and power are the reasons I think Roy would win. Roy's chin seemed good in his prime. I can't remember him being hurt or knocked down in his prime. When Tarver KOed him it seemed to ruin his chin.
Yer I believe Roys chin was pretty good at any weight below 175.
