Anyone know of any current (or past) Native American (Indian) boxers.
And not just from the USA. I'm talking Canada down to Argentina. Would be a good subject for a book.
I know that George Tahdooahnippah is tribal. Maidana too & I think Valero was (can anyone confirm?).
Ponce De Leon is also from the tribe that lives in the Copper Canyon in Mexico. Did anyone read the brilliant book Born To Run?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Damn, I so wanted to give my opinion about Native Americans in Canada/USA but its too much truth.. but yea you wont see many natives from US/Canada in boxing... but I gotta say, I wish they take up Boxing. Some of these Native guys are crazy fighters......scariest dudes I ever seen were natives, they would make boxers cry in a dark alley
if you know anything or have read a book about it , youd know that native americans came from asia through the bering strait...and if you aknow anything about ancient tribesmen of asia , you'd also know that they are of the same race, had the same lifestyle , beliefs , etc as native americans ..
when you say , they share no lingusitic or have cultural ties to asia , i blame that to the fact that you dont know both parties to compare ..you only know one side ..
now , mexicans are defintely diffrent coz they are mixed with europens blood (mestizo) ..altho ive seen many mexicans that look like tribesmen of asia..
so what is it? in your original post you said you didn't need a book to know that "asians are the same as native americans". Now your talking about books.
Your pointing out something I already stated, cant you read? those migrations occurred 15,000-30,000 years ago. Its called evolution idiot, they adapted new physical traits and developed different cultures, languages and customs from actual asians. As a matter of fact, physical and genetic studies have shown that the first "indian" looked nothing like the modern native american or person from Asia. In the course of 15,000-30,000 years natives evolved to adapt to the climate of the new continent they inhabited.
And you really have to be a dumbass to say they share the same culture and heritage when they have no linguistic ties or cultural traits from asia. Were talking thousands of years here idiot. I guess this is why your dumbass always rocks a native on your avy on this and your multiple accounts on here
:lol1: @ you thinking your the same as a native american :pat:
your an idiot, your trying to say natives have the same culture and heritage as asians? they migrated 10,000 years ago and the paleo indian evolved differently then actual asians from asia dumbass. They share no linguistic or cultural ties to asia puga, get your head out of your ass.

Shawn Hawk was the first person I thought of. This article about American Indian boxers talks about him.

I also believe Tommy Morrison is native american as well, I could be wrong.
Tommy Morrison is a blue eyed blond haired white trash hil billy with AIDS. Nothing more, nothing less.
If your including North America then one of the most famous and also one of the "Tuffest" men in boxing was Gaspar "El Indio" Ortega!!! Gaspar fought at WW and at one time had more televised bouts than anyone.
A true inside fighter and never say die attitude made him a fan favorite for many many years!! He had wars with Stan Harrington and fought all of the top ten fighters of his era. He was never given a shot when he was in his prime at WW yet was a contender for 10 years!! He was trained by the same trainer and handled by the same management and is a loyal person to a fault! His son Mike is a welknown ref now a days and is on demand for bouts all over the world now! Gaspar is a friend of my families and was always there when I needed his help. A true competitor who was always in shape and willing to win. Still lives in New Haven Ct. my hometown and works with kids teaching boxing and looking just as he did 55 years ago! A trim 155 walking around weight and a ready 147 in a few days time!! Hola! El Indio!! Ray.
I was gonna mention Joe Hipp. He had some good memorable hw battles in the early 90s; most notably against Tommy Morrison.
I also believe Tommy Morrison is native american as well, I could be wrong.
its not proven though. eskimos seem to come from asia but most native americans are more like mexicans than asians i dont need to read a book ...native amercanss are exactly like asians , the looks , the culture , the heritage, everything ....hell, i went to a a casino somewhere in oregon near an indian reservation and they called my pinoy homeboys brothers...i could'nt tell which one was which, they all looked alike..:lol1:..if you want to read about it look for "sunchasers"
filipinos , thais , indonesians, malays, etc..since american indian came from asia anyways...
its not proven though. eskimos seem to come from asia but most native americans are more like mexicans than asians. its not 100% known where they fully came from but in university we learned many migrated from down around mexico. but eskimos vs native american you can tell a huge huge difference.

Props to this man. The only one I could think of off the top of my head was Ponce.
Henry Armstrong.
His mom was pure Iroquois and his dad was a third Iroquois
The Iroquois don't mess around.....neither do the Siouxie, Apache or Cherokee....well Cherokee kind o had like a "white man's league" where they viewed things differently from the "elders"
Indians are people of the land......honest and true people

I believe I was told Jack Dempsey was part American Indian. He was from out in Colorado, so I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility. He definitely appears in pictures to have some non-European ancestry.
hector thompson I think was an Australian aboriginal...and didn't duran have some aboriginal blood? hector thompson and roberto duran both fought each other at lightweight and apparently duran says that thompson was the hardest body puncher he has ever faced..
Now this is a classy sub plot. Aboriginal boxers.
