He was trying his best and could not land anything and the counter puncher was getting countered,he looked lost, irritated and frustrated. It literally looked like a big brother playing with his little brother.Styles really do make fights
actually he had good power...if you look at the pacquiao fight he hurt manny to the body when he got him on the ropes....manny said he was lucky to get out of that round...pac even had to spent 2 weeks in bed with bruised ribs due to margos body puching...so to say margo didn't have any power after he got caught with "plaster" is quite ignorant...
also margarito was going against fighters who knew how to deal with pressure fighter's (shane and manny excellent against pressure fighters)...and by the time he got the cotto rematch he was terribly shot...
:cool2:..............
it's pretty simple really. JMM is a counter puncher, that's what he does best. Against floyd, he was forced to be the aggressor and that's not really his game at all, especially against an even better counter puncher in floyd. Stylistically, that's the worst possible fight for JMM. That's why Marquez looks so great against Pac. Pac is the aggressor and that's what JMM wants and shines against.
And therein lies the key. Floyd took away anything he wanted to do and it's why Marquez looked like a fish out of water.
Even with the two-year layoff, I thought Floyd would beat Marquez up, although I began seeing it as a much closer fight as the day came near and posters I respected began the "don't sleep on JMM" talk. Not to mention the postponement when Mayweather suffered the rib injury. I didn't view this as anything other than a decent win when it occurred but over time it looms large.
Margarito without his loaded gloves is just a tall, slow, no defense Malignaggi.
Name one meaningful fight he won after he got caught red handed, and destroyed by a shot to pieces Mosley. Name one, JUST ONE....I'm waiting.:cool2:
Malignaggi?
What?

Floyd made him lead and countered him perfectly. Even when Floyd lead, he was too fast for Marquez to effectively counter him. The worst fight, stylistically, for JMM. Mayweather neutralized his strengths and made him use his weaknesses, from the first bell.
lol no this isn't shot katsidis or feather fisted juan diaz this is a 5'11 iron chin punching machine with legendary stamina...
very stupid of you to say that....

It wasn't size, because Floyd was right in Marquez face to be hit. It was a difference of speed and skill

Lol....That gif never gets old.
It was a total one-sided shut out. I've never seen JMM beaten so easily. He looked tiny against Floyd and completely outclassed.

Younger Floyd was faster and busier. It would have been even more one sided and would have probably ended in a stoppage.
Margarito would wreck him, even today.
i dont disagree that a younger mayweather would be more likely to stop marquez, but as a lightweight he'd have to more careful than he was at 147, where marquez' punches did next to nothing. he'd fight a different fight. mayweather has a greater advantage at 147 than he would at 135.
JMM would give that cheating scumbag a boxing lesson. That come straight forward, no defense style would be Disney Land to a sharp, combination counter puncher like JMM.
Margarito would destroy Marquez at 147. Don't be dumb. Katsidis and Diaz had. Marquez in brawls. The much larger Tony would walk through any thing Marquez throws. I know you hate the guy but have some perspective.

i'm not saying that it is entirely about height and reach, though that's a large factor. i've outlined the entirety of my stance more than once in the thread.
i think that marquez would have never been able to have an answer for floyd's superior technique, his speed, and his size, but he wouldn't have been so horribly outgunned if mayweather were 10 years younger and naturally closer to the size of marquez.
mayweather is a better fighter than marquez in a p4p sense or otherwise. that still doesn't take away from the fact that when they fought in '09 floyd was fighting as a WW and marquez was a LW.

But Floyd had the same height and arm length when he was a 135 lber. So if you're saying it was all due to height and reach then you must agree that it would have been the same fight had they both weighed in at 135.
See my post above, Floyd had the same height and reach when he was a lightweight. If you're complaining about height and reach, what you're saying is it would have been the same fight at any weight.
JMM gets dominated and KO'd at 130. Once again he does EVERYTHING better than JMM does. Floyd was much more aggressive and more of a power puncher at 130 as well. JMM isn't making it 12 at that weight.
at a lower wieght where marquez is more comfortable and younger, more prime, marquez is no slouch, he is pretty fast himself, and in his prime had some quick feet
so the fight would be more competetive, also at a lower wieght their strenght would be closer and marquez wouldn't feel as much weight off of floyd
as for skillspaybills, a more aggressive floyd just plays into marquez's hands, it just ups his chances
also floyd doesn't do everything much better than floyd, marquez throws much better combos than floyd ever has
and marquez footwork is better than floyds, yes, this one will be a shocker for you to believe but it's the truth
marquez can cut off the ring much better than floyd ever has, against southpaws and orthodox, dont think throwing does counter-combo's is also easy esspecially when marquez starts them off from the backfoot(countering) and then has the capability to stick to his fleeing opponent to finish his combo off
Think about it, full fledged WW can be massive, think Tito, Hearns, Margarito
