These guys decided that they're not dropping Chavez Jr from the rankings because marijuana is not a PED. Yet here is their rule:
THE RING’s new policy on failed drug tests states clearly: “THE RING will remove from its ratings any rated boxer – including a champion – if such boxer at some point undergoes drug testing (Olympic-style or otherwise) and that boxer tests positive for a banned substance.”
Marijuana is a banned substance therefore he should dropped no? Wrong... the RING proceeds to bending their OWN rules ONCE AGAIN.
Marijuana is a banned substance in Nevada, meaning that Chavez should be dropped if we adhere strictly to the new policy.
However, because marijuana is not a performance-enhancing drug, the Editorial Board believes that penalizing Chavez would be the wrong move. Some testing organizations – including VADA – don’t even test for marijuana.
What type of bullsh1t is this? Im not saying Peterson and Berto are clean but at least they were found "not guilty" and are still out of the rankings. Meanwhile they don't feel Chavez should be dropped? These people are starting to become a damn joke. People subscribed to their issues should start canceling their subscription.
Spoken like a true herbalist!!:beerchug:
Man for real. When will the government remember how prohibition made gangsters billions and does so for the mex cartels. Theyre idiotic laws breed the violence and crime they waste millions on combating.
i agree with ring.
this is another secret subconscious social desensitization of the unlawful act of making marijuana illegal. Its like penalizing a fighter for smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol.
bravo ring magazine.
jr. did nothing wrong.
Completely agree.
Ever since I found out about Boxingscene I haven't read the ring since.
Yea... Im about to stop going to that website. Im sure if there's any important news on there someone will post them on here.

Its not a question of whether marijuana should be legal (I think it should) or whether it benefits a fighter (it doesnt)...
Both the ring and chavez are in the wrong. The Ring's own policey is for "banned substances" not for PEDS, since chavez did test positive for a banned substance, they broke/ignored their own policy. They should change the policy then if they want to change their stance on a positive for marijuana. Because what they are doing now is granting an exception to their policy for one fighter and showing favoritism as they do not have this policy across the board for all fighters.
For Chavez, boxing is not a right, you have to have a license and when you do so you are abiding by their rules and then by the ABC belt org's rules when you have a belt. He chose to participate with both the commission and the ABC org and is subject to their rules. Dont break the rules you agreed to if you dont want the repercussions. As long as the punishment fits the crime (Tysons example of a 100k fine was excessive) then it is fair to me.
Was Tyson dropped after he smoked weed?
Tyson was fined $100,000 which is ****ing ridiculous and things like that are why he is broke. He made the good point in his documentary that James Toney was only fined 10k for steroids for the Ruiz fight yet Tyson was fined 100k for marijuana.
i agree with ring.

he problem with this statement is, tobacco and etoh are not illegal. the ring has rules that they break when they feel like it. for example, they didnt drop pac in the p4p rankings because they said everyone knows who won that fight. the majority had pac winning. but in the last pac vs JMM fight the majority had JMM winning. the crowed even boo'd win pac was announced the winner. the ring didnt say the mojority thought JMM won so we rank JMM as the winner. the ring is a joke i stopped buying it a long time ago. they are no longer objective.
Couldn't they just drop him from the rankings and as soon as he beats a bum they just slap him back up at the top. I don't even understand why they would do it this way at all? :dunno:

vada doesnt even test for marijuana so in the name of fairness it will be unfair for them to unrank chavez jr for getting tested for marijuana while other who do vada testing do not get tested for it to begin with.
Not sure where you got this info from but here you go:

Scroll down to Cannabinoids. THC is listed. Hell they even have Spice listed on there...
Everyone knows that JR is a bum. Doesn't matter where he is ranked
Yea and the RING "rating panel" are fkin bums too...
I like how that dude blew up on them and Fischer came out defending them. :lol1:
my problem is when u make a statement like this and then u start playing loose with it, u kill your own legitimacy. u just do. a banned substance is a banned substance. u should have left it at a case by case basis in the first place, instead u embarass yourself a month later. that magazine truly is coming to ****.
I'm okay with this. And Peterson hasn't been found not guilty. IBF ruling doesn't matter. Don't know about Berto, but Ring should put him back in already.
