Does anyone else agree?
He had a chance to be a draw after the Montiel KO but he failed to live up to expectations with lack luster performances against guys who were either running away, or covering up and jabbing very defensive. I think Arum should have just built him up with some Latino bombers, guys who will just bang with him so it would build hype, sorta like with how they built up Mike Tyson with tomato cans.
Right now Nonito will never be a huge draw like Pacquiao, his last fight they had it in a heavily filipino populated area and he barely sold any tickets in a small outdoor stadium, I heard he sold only 1 thousand tickets.
Also I remember ?Nonito has a backlash by Filipinos becuae he said his dad was taking money from him and hated his wife, for some reason the Filipinos thought that was disrespectful and hated him.
Also he isnt filipino enough for whatever that means, he is already 30 years old I think, Pacquiao was 24 years old when he became a star, Nonito will not be at Pacquiao's level of stardom.
Maybe because he fights below featherweight? Who knows, but the guy just doesn't seem to be popular with his own people or the casual boxing fan.
I think that kid Mercito Gesta has a chance if he gets a good trainer and beats a good champion to be a draw with Filipinos, But Nonito doesn't.
yeah, i think the reason he is not a huge star is partly because he has not had a defining exciting fight. For the most part he always wins decisively, his fights are never a 50-50 chance. when nonito fights, you know he is going to win. When pac fought early in his career, all his fights were a flip coin toss.
I'm neutral :lol1:
But back to Nonito, if he wants to be a draw then at least try to appeal to your Filipino people.
If it means moving to the Philipines and staring in some cheesy films then so be it.
He really does have to do that. Though I believe it's been said he burnt his bridges with them awhile ago, and it'll take a while to build new ones. It's either that or fight some exciting fighters and look great doing it. Nishioka is a good step, but honestly if the lay-off doesn't effect him I think Nishioka takes the fight.
LOL. Butterbean was huge for a while here in the states... I'm not sure if you're for or against my post haha. That's a better comparison than Chris to be honest.

Don't get me started on Butterbean :lol1:

Lol sadly he does have "some" appeal which goes along with my point. He's not very talented IMO yet people still talk about him. Even more so than some very talented little guys.

That is why Chris Arreola is popular fighter to watch, he appeals to the common American.

Similar to the guy above me without all the anger... it's because he's so little. To be a huge "draw" generally that means getting a huge American audience and selling PPVs. The problem is most people are his size in America when they're turning 10 years old (I think I weighed 126 going into 4th grade and I was already 5'10"). If this comes of as racist I apologize but generally Americans are larger individuals than asians and when you're that much larger than someone you don't really care about their fight. You feel regardless of how good they are you could swat them with one hand into the ground which turns a lot of casual fans off.

Cuz Donaire fighting at biatchweight. Nobody cares about these lower weight classes except the Japanese and Ivan Calderon. No grown ass adult man should weigh less than 140. But a trained athlete? lol.. Boxing has so many useless weight classes. Can cut 50% of them. Make Minimumweight 130 then 145 160 175 190 210+.....tada, no need for 50 diff weightclasses where cherry pickers can hide for years with fake ass belts that nobody gives a **** about...... make these clowns aim for 1 weightclass and stick to it instead of using it like a POGO stick and jumping around classes like they a twister board...........
fu WBC,WBO,IBF,IBA,BABO,WBA for all these bullshiet weight divisions.
If you cant make 130lb as a Boxer you should curse you should blame your maker for your weak gene's........but all these who fight below 130 just cherry pick stupid weight classes that nobody gives a shiet about, then it becomes how close to dying can you go?
"Im the minimumweight champ! I weigh 90 lb and my KO ratio is 2%, even cancer patients give me food and feel sorry for me"
These guys dont even train, all they do is run marathons and puke their food out like yolo's.
Should force them from running and inject Bacon into their a us to gain weight
Unless a fighter hits WW, there is almost 0 chance of a fighter being a "huge draw", let alone only at 122, which is already his 4th (?) division.
bingo
amazing stuff I am seeing on here
you said no fighter will ever be a draw........i just pointed out how you were wrong
Yeah I know but I was talking about NOW...and these CURRENT FIGHTERS with the current state of boxing...I don't see it
OF COURSE I hope I am wrong and those guys will become Draws and Cross Over Stars because it is a lot of talent in and around 122-126
it is possible to earn huge paydays at around 130. I think Pacquiao and Morales were making millions already at 130. Granted the stars need to align to make that much at that weight class.. He needs fellow superstars @ his weight class probably of mexican decent because they are the ones that constitute the majority of the audience at the lower weight classes.
OF course you can still make Great Money at the lower weight class but the topic is about being a "DRAW", a Draw to me are fighters who can grab the attention of casual fans and get them to either come watch them fight or pay for a PPV to see them fight
NO FIGHTER in the weight class of 126 and lower will ever become a "DRAW"!
Which is sad because I think those Divisions are loaded with talented...but Casuals and the people actually do spend their money on Tickets and PPV Events, they don't care about any Divisions Lower then MAYBE 135
147 and up is where the Money Is At!
