A victorious Sergio Martinez, hands broken and bruised, poses for a local newspaper in Argentina:
You're right his first two knuckles on his left hand are the ones that are swollen. This is weird because boxers usually strike with the last three knuckles as they turn the wrist. Martial artists are the ones who hit with the first two knuckles.
With a moving target the point of impact can be unpredictable
Chavez looked huge. He easily weighed about 195-200lbs last Saturday. He should be embarrassed that he couldnt KO a one legged 150 pounder.

Dude continued to put on a clinic and never stopped even with the injuries he sustained. Not going defensive in the 12th was also amazing all things considered. I don't think anyone ever questioned Sergios heart but he really showed it in that fight... huge props to him.
You know maybe it's just me...but really it's not all that bad looking considering that 2nd knuckle is not from Sat...that happened years ago and although the hand is red over the 1st knuckle...it's not really swollen and looks more like he broke a blood vessel and had some internal bleeding...that can happen when the wraps are to tight. It could all heal up soon...let's hope.
edit* I saved the pic and blew it up...ok it's a bit swollen but I'm still not convinced it's going to give him long term problems.
A lot of power punchers snap inwards towards the first two knuckles. Shane did it, Pac does it, Serg does it, and others. Theres arguments out there saying more power that way in that the punch tends to be shorter or that it helps bust faces up (this seems to make sense)
. I think I even heard (was it Pac?) talking about how he could feel his big knuckles hit someones face through the gloves. Coulda been in relation to Marg, but I forget who it was. I'm not gunna argue with results on proper knuckle placement but in Sergios defense... He's missing his main knuckle on his left, the middle one.
Is Nazim permanently with Sergio now to be a hand wrap man? I thought he would just be a temp since Julio Jr has shady integrity
I doubt he will be wrapping his hands again...he blames him for the hand injury.
I think over a twelve round fight where you land as many punches as sergio did you are bound to use just about all your knuckles at some point! It only takes one punch to catch the wrong angle for a knuckle to break...
It happened in the 4th...all it takes is for the wrapping to be a bit to tight.

Jr is so easy to hit that Martinez doesn't even have to look:

why is he wearing a punchers glove and chavez is the one using grant?
it should be the other way around since chavez's only chance is a KO.. :D
Grant is a punchers glove.
