Got confirmation from @DeBlaz that @caneloOficial bout viewership of 1.036 million is record for @SHOsports since they began tracking
See, this is what you don't understand. And I can't figure if you are trolling... or you are serious.
Over or underperforming isn't a comparison with some external comparison. It is a comparison vs your own standard or expectation.
For example:
If you draft a running back in the first round, you EXPECT that guy to be a 1,000 yard back. If he runs for 480 yards, he has underperformed. Get it? Not compared to Adrian Peterson or Stephen Jackson or whoever... but vs what the team expected of him, and what he (should have) expected of himself. Get it?
Now, you keep claiming that 600K number, and I'm willing to bet many, many points - or a self-imposed ban - that this Arum number is complete bollocks.
That is a typical Arum move. Claim some high number immediately after the fight, media picks up on it, the real numbers don't get released, and simp fans parrot that Arum fable like it's gospel.
I will bet you that the official number is below 600K.... or NOT released. Wanna bet?
Who cares.
The truth is that at least $10 million net income from U.S. tv alone was realized by Chavez-Martinez while Alvarez-Lopez was probably less than a quarter of that. Gate numbers also reflect what generated more.
It's plain to see what was the bigger success no matter what way you try to spin it.
HBO wouldn't jump for joy generating what it's baby brother generates. 1.036 million viewers on HBO is pretty ****ty.
It is? Hmm let's see, Martinez-Chavez exceeded expectations with 600K buys but didn't overperform a Floyd or Pacquiao PPV.

Overperforming and "exceeding expectations" is the exact same thing.
WTF is wrong with you?
Tom Brady was drafted in the 98th round. He has overperformed. he has exceeded expectations.

No. I'm NOT overlooking money. Check my history. I'm the one that has consistently said that Pacquiao's Texas Stadium fights in front of a crowd of eleventeen zillion is clown ***** because it still only does $5 million gate. Whereas Mayweather does $10 Million gate with 10K people at the MGM.
So, I understand what you are saying.
Now, understand what I am saying: For Canelo Alvarez to sell 1.5 mil at the gate and to do a record viewership on SHO on a weekend where he had the LEAST promoted event and was CLEARLY the "B-show" in town is a win.
If Harry Potter 7 sells $40 million...big whoop.
But if Blair Witch Project does $40 million... Holy *****.
Different scales.... get it?

And you think Mexicans were solo in front of Showtime on Mexican Independence Day weekend?
Again, scale.
The Canelo main event peaked at 2.6 million.
Ask yourself: which event OVERperformed?
Chavez-Martinez , which was on HBOPPV supported by 24/7 episodes doing $3 Mn at the gate and (likely) 450K buys?
-Or-
Canelo fighting Josesito frikkin' Lopez on Showtime and setting a viewership record and still doing a mil and a half at the gate.
If you say the Top Rank show, then good on ya. I happen to believe that the GBP show is the one that exceeded expectations.

Please someone explain this to me. Is it that 1 million homes tuned in to watch the card, OR is it that 1 million homes tuned in to watch the main event?
BTW, IDK how the fuck ratings work so lol
Iole said viewers.

You missed the point.
Who had more OVERALL viewership?
You don't seriously think 600k PPV buys = 600k viewers do you? 600k PPV buys indicates a hell of a lot more people watched Chavez-Sergio than Canelo.

Remember Canelo's event was originally set to be on PPV but they had to put it on "free" TV to be able to "compete".

Did you see "Under their objectives"? Or did you conveniently gloss over that?
ODLH had said that thousands will watch Chavez, and millions will watch Canelo.
Im not sure where you're getting at... Like I said the ultimate goal is $$$ and who makes the most. I was simply saying who I think won IN MY OPINION. Guess I forgot to throw that out there before.

All good news as Boxing is the winner at the end of the day. We need more stars in this sport that transcend into mainstream media, I wanna see boxing everywhere goddamit
You missed the point.

Usually several people watch a PPV for every 1 buy. It's rare someone buys a PPV just for themselves. PPVs are events where friends and family are invited to come over and watch. Seeing how it got around 500k buys, way more than 1 million people were watching Chavez vs Martinez in just the US.
This was on Shosports.... HBO numbers still crush.
Well, this is a REALLY big number fpr SHO/Canelo. HBO's big fight this month had about the same viewership, despite having 3x the subscribers.
