At a catchweight of 164 and get another title?so say"oh he is to small for a higher weight"well so is Cotto...i like Martinez but if you are seeking greatness look UP not DOWN...I understand he wants a pay day but i think he has gained a few new fans with the Chavez fight
All of a sudden catchweights are bad LOL. Great Champions had fought at catchweights to make great fights happen. Now cause manny did it a few times people try to throw a blanket over catch weights as if its a 100% bad thing.
More like cw is only bad when PAC ask for it. When it's someone else everyone seem to push it aside. I've been saying this for the longest, when u have a top contender at 140 and a top contender at 154, a cw is mandatory. These are pro boxers whatever The guy at 140 can do the guy at 154 can do the same. It'll be a suicide move for the 140lb guy to go up to 154 and fight the 154 champ without a weight limit. No matter how good the 140lb guy is he won't be able to withstand the power from the 154lb guy. People on here needs a reality check.
It hasn't even been a year yet when martinez says he'll fight PAC at 150 and everyone was game for it bashing pac to accept it. Now All of a sudden I don't think Martinez can make 154 healthy.. The phuck!!!!???
Like i said Martinez is a beast and im a fan but how can you say people from lower divisions are ducking him and people from higher divisions are calling him out and he gets a pass???now he doesnt have to fight them..but nor do the people in lower divisions have to fight him..cause at 154 he would be drained and whomever fights him there should get 0 credit..but if someones moves up to 160 to fight him that means they are seeking greatness
Great post.
I just don't see Martinz making 154 healthy, and I think he shouldn't go any lower than a 157 CW really. He hasn't been to 154 in pretty much 4 years now.
Does anyone here think Floyd in 2009, who was a solid but not really big WW (like Martinez is at MW right now, solid but not a big MW), could have made 140 healthy after not fighting there in 4 years???
I seriously doubt it.
I'll be good if Cotto fights Canelo or Martinez next. Both are fights I'd like to see. I want to see Canelo-Cotto because that's a fight where we'll find out if Canelo has the goods and deserves a Floyd fight.

exactly why andre fraud gets no respect makin chad come down like that..

What basis do you have to suggest he'd be "drained" at 154lbs?

Read the article again. Im sure the writer knows the difference between a catch weight and actual boxing divisions. If it was at 154 that would be clear. If it was at 160 that would be clear.
The weight he has to agree on wont be 154 or 160.
So there is no context, just one you made up with absolutely no context at all, gotcha
NO context will lead a person to conclude he wants a catchweight
Why Sergio won't fight at SMW even though he's 175lbs 30 days prior to his fights? Because he and DiBella are full of **** and rather fights semi-bums at MW for the most part.
semi bums in a division that i can't remember anyone expecting him to move up to when he was a jr mw

Martinez is small at middle. 168 is pushing it to far for him.
At 168? Martinez could still make 154 and Ward just KO'd the LHW champ. Size difference is too vast. Same size though, what a fight that would be :luvbed:
I tinks dis Sergio started out at 147 and both Pacquiao and da Pretty Boy both done fought above 147. Martinez is willing to drop to 150 to make it happen. Why should dis small MW move up to 168 to fight Ward? Martinez is a much bigger star den Ward is, lets keep that one point in perspective. Ward fights in his hometown for a reason, he ain't selling anywheres else.
The difference is Martinez is willing to fight Floyd at 150 or 154. Meanwhile Ward wants to bring him up.... No catchweight.
From what I recall Martinez expressed interest at 165 and Wars entertained the idea, but it just died off and the last we heard was Lou saying the advantages Serg has at middle and 154 would be gone if he put on more muscle...which makes sense. Wards a pretty big 168 while Martinez is already a smallish 160. They each win at each others class. Ward would be drained, Martinez wouldnt have the speed advantage or strength. Theyre close yet so far. Massive props to either if they challenged the other. Bu if Martinez wins against JCC Jr expect him to go down to 154 an put himself in position for Floyd. BundrGe would be a good keep busy fight. Martinez already took the risk in moving up. Ward should challenge himself imo instead of having everyone go to him as usual, even when he didnt deserve it.
Martinez is like 40 lol. Youre asking a near 40 year old to pack on the muscle instead of the youngster lose weight? There too much bias in the Argument. Floyd and Martinez is only possible because Floyd just fought at 154 and has shown interest in Martinez should he beat Chavez. Every guy Martinez has fought recently has appeared bigger. Even Dzinziruk seemed a bit bigger.
Sergio is a small MW, he is also getting old. I will love to see
SERGIO VS Cotto or Sergio vs Floyd after Jr. Ward should move up to LHW and dominate the division there.
That being said, IF PROMOTED RIGHT. This could end up being a super fight. It all depends on the promotion, Ward vs Dawson actually created decent buzz and Jr vs Martinez is expected to do very well for a non Pacquaio-Floyd PPV.
If the promoting is right and Martinez vs Ward becomes a super fight? I will love to see it at a catch weight of 164.
General consensus was 'Martinez is a small Middleweight/can still make 154lbs'.
Neither is context.
You mean the "context" of one guy that's fighting at 160 and another guy that's fighting at 154 having to agree on a weight limit?
That context?

Reading comprehension isnt that hard guys
Like I said, hilarious how this sh1t takes off.
And the funniest part is most of the people making these threads were defending Floyd Mayweather when he literally mentioned twice in a direct quote that he'd fight Martinez at 150 catchweight.
Lol that changed quick didn't it?

Umm According to PAC haters 1lb makes a world of a different. If PAC didn't ask cotto to come down to 145 cotto would have whooped on PAC like he did to clottey at 146! Ohh wait this doesn't mean anything if its not PAC that is asking for it.
Cotto fought clotted at full 147 limit, and cotto never asked Sergio for a
Catch weight, Sergio is offering this to entice cotto to fight hook because cotto wants to make history and be the first puerto rican fighter to win titles in 4 weight classes

Reading that article again, Martinez isn't quoting saying he wants a catchweight.
I'm guessing that's the writer's interpretation of "If we can agree on the weight".
I guess we'll find out in weeks to come.
exactly but when people feel a certain way about a fighter they are quick to try to find something to discredit that fighter and i don't understand why.what has sergio done to anyone?
