How much talent is at 160 really? Martinez couldve BEEN moved down. ALL the action is at 154.
Lara
Cotto
Alvarez
Kirkland
Molina
Vanes
K9
But no he rather collect paychecks fighting Chavez Junior and call out JMW's to fight him CW for his 160 Pound title.
And then his "fans" who arent really true fans of the guy because if they were theyd be talking about him fighting 160 Pounders like Pirog or GG or moving down to 154 altogether.
But ofcourse theyre not true fans they only talk about him in regards to Mayweather. A guy who hasnt been out of jail what 6 week is somehow ducking a 160 Pounder.
Lol.
Meh whatever.
Martinez wanted Chavez for that belt, the paycheck and the chance to let out his frustration. Now that he's accomplished that, the next on the bucket list is Cotto/Canelo/Mayweather. I would be surprised if Sergio fights Jr. again.

4 years this February since he fought at 154.
Like I said in another thread how many years need to pass before people realize that hes a 160 Pounder? What 4,5,6 years?
I mean its ridiculous.
Who cares if he makes 154. Its about being effective at that weight and since he hasnt been there in 3 years and some change what makes people think he can?
Or better yet fight Cotto at 154 pounds. He wouldve fought at 154 by now. He wont because he cant make the weight.
Time to move on.
I agree with you, and as a Mayweather fan I want to see him fight Martinez, but I am telling you right now that if they fight and Floyd wins there are going to be people on this site who claim weight was a factor if they fight at 154. That's why I would much prefer Floyd just take the fight at 160 so noone has excuses when he wins.
Those people are idiots and you'll never please idiots. The fight should take place at 154 and hopefully it does. This has to happen next year--aside from possibly Bradley, I can't think of any other Floyd fight that would interest me.
No one is arguing Martinez and Mayweather are the same size. They aren't the same size. Martinez is much bigger.
People are saying asking why that matters.
Martinez will vastly outweigh Mayweather. So? It won't be the first time and it probably won't be the last.
If Martinez can make 154 then let's make the fight happen.

Can Sergio still make 154? He just said a day or two ago that he needed a catchweight with Cotto if they were ever to fight. I want Floyd to fight a comfortable Martinez not a weight drained one.
i guess sergio can't make 154 then
It hasn't been that long. Sergio fought Williams at 160 in December 09, so this December would be 3 years. Still along time, and I too doubt his ability to make 154 healthy. I'd like to see him try though.
i misread the timeline then. my fault.
IMHO, Canelo/Cotto do not pose the same threat to Martinez that Ward posed to Dawson. I think much more of Ward than I do of Canelo, and I think Ward is a tougher out than Cotto too (at their current stage). Sergio has been waiting to get in this position for a long time, and I doubt he'll just let it go to waste. He's at the end of his career, the perfect time to take risks. He has a lot of options right now, and if he can safely make 154, even better for him. The two obvious options are Chavez and Canelo. Take Alvarez out the picture, and he gets that much closer to his wish of fighting Mayweather.
i don't think anyone expected the utter whitewash we got from that ward/dawson fight, but it happened, and i think it'd be just as likely because sergio's 37 years old. but as i said, maybe he's a diffrent animal. we'll know if and when that/those fights ever happen, but there's clearly precedence.
and he'll he'll surely suffer for it. we saw what happened to chad dawson and i reckon it'd be even tougher for a guy serg's age. for the williams fight there was a catchweight of 158. It'd been 8 years since chad last fought at 168, and almost 4 since sergio last fought at jr middle. maybe he's just a different animal. i don't think its a smart move though. i could see anyone those guys doing to him what ward did to dawson.

This is an interesting point, and it's also supported by his pre-fight/fight-night numbers. Before he fought Dzinziruk, he said he would do whatever he had to do to fight Mayweather/Cotto. I don't think his mind-frame has changed much since then, cuz he's still hungry for that respect and them big paychecks lol

Actually Chavez weighed in at 158 and Martinez at 159. That means they're the same size right?

sergio beats the dog **** out of manny, floyd and cotto if each of those guys moves up middleweight. i personally don't think he can make 154 cause if he could, he would have fought at jr middle as some point since becoming middleweight champion just to show he could.

I don't think it will easy for him (to make 154), but I don't doubt that he would make it if the fight was ever signed. Martinez seems like he will put his body through suffering just to get the fights that he feels he deserves, he doesn't give a fuck. If he gotta fight @154 to get Cotto/Mayweather/Canelo, he will do so with little hesitation.
He did, but that doesn't change the fact that there was a significant size advantage. Just admit it instead of saying "They both made weight herp derp!"
I ain't deflecting nothing, you just refuse to acknowledge the size difference.
Where do I refuse to acknowledge the size difference? But they're two fighters who have fought at 154.....fighting at 154. Whats the issue exactly?
Light is basically saying that Sergio's rehydration would put Floyd at a size disadvantage, and coming down in weight could hurt Sergio in the process, therefore messing up the fight's significance. There's truth to that, but if Sergio can prove that he can make the weight without any serious side effects (unlike Dawson), AND beat the **** outta Canelo, then what would be the problem?
I don't think so. I think Martinez knows floyd is much tougher than Miguel. Sergio called him out not to fight the best but to make his highest payday./QUOTE]
Sergio has been calling out Mayweather/Cotto since after the 2nd Williams fight. He basically called Cotto a coward to draw a reaction out of him.
No, the fact is that Martinez has yet to weight in at 160. This tells me he can easily make 154.
