No need to say bad things about Freddie Roach.
Has had a great career as a trainer.
Fighters lose all the time.
Every great trainer has had a fighter lose.
Lets take into account the knee of Martinez. He seemed lazy an slow leaning back which is how he got hit with that right.
You know your fighter is outclassed when you say "Hes just too fast..." There's only so much he could do... Beat on the inside, out thrown significantly, beat on the outside, out body punched, Walked down, and Going against that type of speed... Yeeeah... Just too much.
That makes it even worse. Roach couldn't guide his fighter to victory against a 37-year-old with a hurt knee and broken hand.
Alls I ask is why doesn't the guy teach his fighters how to cut off the ring, or counterpunch, or use head movement; slip and roll punches so they can fight on the inside? Why can't Roach do that?
I don't doubt that at all. For 11 rounds, he was cruising against Jr. I think Martinez just got too brave in the 12th after getting caught and it backfired. All I did was give names of trainers who I think would have had a more positive impact of Jr.'s performance and actually taught him how to cut off a ring. Plus, they speak spanish and don't say things like "you gotta fight".... remember the priceless advice and coaching Roach was giving to Khan and Pacquiao between rounds in Peterson-Khan and Marquez-Pacquiao .

you overlooked the performance of martinez, the type of fighter chavez jr is during training and fight night. the result wouldve been the same, skill quality, talent and experience of martinez would always end up with the same result.

Nacho or Garcia. Garcia because his fighters fight with reckless abandon or Berenstein because if Chavez Jr. was going to come out gun-shy as a cruiserweight, he could have at least worked on countering.

so who shouldve been julios trainer that would've changed the outcome of the fight against maravilla?

But if you've been reading this forum for the last 6 months, Freddie is basically now regarded as a sh-t trainer who will single-handedly ruin a fighter; a fraud who is only now being exposed.
But this is a guy, let's not forget, who is going down in the HOF for the work he has done with Pacquiao.
Someone who has trained Pac, Toney, Tyson, Tapia, Virgil Hill, Hopkins etc.
And now this same person is not fit to carry Naazim's jockstrap?
:haha:
I've always stated that Roach is a basic trainer. That list of names there... those guys were champs before they went to Roach .
Look at the styles of Pacquiao, Khan, and Linares. They all fight the exact same way. I think matchmaking has had a huge role in what's made Roach successful. I mean, look at Chavez Jr... he had zero idea how to cut off the ring. Maybe Roach was planning to teach him how to do that the day Jr. cancelled, but fact of the matter is that Pacquiao had the same issue when a 39-year-old Mosley was doing the same thing as Martinez without throwing punches. Mayweather-DLH is another example. Look at Peterson-Khan... Khan tried to prance around, but Peterson had the foot-speed that Maidana didn't as he was able to stop the pity-pat and move by cutting off the ring and forcing Khan into engages . And what trainer allows his fighter to believe he's allowed to be an offensive lineman in the ring?
Great trainers adjust to certain styles of fighting where matchmaking can cover up the actual abilities of a trainer and/or fighter.
i don't know if you could knock roach too much for having chavez jr lose to martinez...I mean it's such an incredible endeavor to take a guy who is nowhere near ranked the top ten best p4p and who hasn't even fought an elite fighter and have him beat one of the best p4p fighters in the world and the lineal champ at 160..also pac's loss was a robbery so can't knock him for that too much either.
Who knew that having 60 fighters and no discipline and no personal time for any of them except the golden egg will come back to bite Roach in the ass? Oh I did, I been saying for a while that Roach overrated ass is piggybacking Pacman's success and he having 50 Boxers 10 MMA guys in his camp is a waste of time since he makes them jump thru hoops just to see him and when they do he doesnt even train them or teach them anything. Roach is a complete joke, the only reason people dont say the truth about Roach is because of his condition, but I dont care, I'll always call roach a Hollywood hack who got his gym from an Actor and piggyback the success of 1 fighter..disease or no disease
The goal of any trainer is to make a fighter the best he can be. Perhaps we have seen the best of Chavez Jr. and Khan.
There is no way Khan should have lost his last fight, and under many trainers he would not have. He had a significant speed and reach advantage, yet he was mixing it up with a guy whose only hope was to land a huge punch. Khan should have been jabbing and moving, but Freddie had him standing toe-to-toe.
As much as I dislike him, Khan was right to leave Freddie.
I don't know what Freddie Roach did to piss people off, but it's hilarious how this site tries to pretend he's a terrible trainer every time one of his fighters loses. Let's just forget everything else his fighters have done, he was always overrated crap who has no idea what he's doing!
When Roach tried to give JR advice jr said "ya ya ya" which is like enough enough, basically jr didn't ever respect him. If Roach has any balls he'll walk away. If he stays, he's a punk. Don't think he even got the chance to make a gameplan for this one.
wasnt that chavez sr telling jr "now now now"? in like start fighting now son
Roach is having a terrible year, but in reality..... Manny beat Timmy and was robbed (i understand alot of people believe Manny robbed Marquez, but that doesn't mean that the fight between Bradley and PacMan was scored correctly).... Manny was robbed, Khan is chinny, we all knew that, and he got caught... Chavez Jr has been overrrated for a long time, he's just now getting good, but he's nowhere near Martinez level.
So really, Roaches two flawed projects (khan and chavez) lost... and Manny was robbed... Not a great year, and if he didn't stretch himself so thin he'd probably do better... but I don't see this as a sign that he's a **** coach or anything
Never rated Freddie but Chavez Jr is just not a good boxer.Limited fighters achieve great things when they work harder but he is neither a good boxer or hard worker
Freddie always seems to use the "we underestimated him" excuse which really is his fault as head trainer. The thing is Pacquiao Kahn and Chavez are all flawed fighters do maybe they could have been a lot worse without him in their corner
I do find it strange for a trainer at his level to have no respect for the jab
I think this time Roach was actually giving the right instructions to Jr, but the kid wasn't listening.
Entire Chavez family was yelling over him.
Really hard to get a word in edgewise against loud Mexicans.
