and Sergio's gloves weighed 9.5 ounces. Martinez's team requested that they be weighed and it was found that both camp's gloves were under the 10 ounce mark. Martinez's camp will now use a different pair that weigh 9.7 just like Chavez's. From the 24/7 overtime interview with Freddie Roach and Kellerman.
So for all the people claiming it was a non issue against Lee this demonstrates how easy it is for gloves not to weigh the standard amount.
Ring the Bell!!!! If you care about .2 off a glove you really need to check into a clinic for "anal-retension"!!!
If your a hand speed guy you benefit from lighter gloves if your a puncher you benefit from heavier gloves but .2 means NOTHING!! :bottle: Here amuse yourselves, ring the bell and lets what happens with these "dandies" old vs new!!! I don't care for either one of these azzholes I just hope its a real fight!! If Sergio runs all night he's a bum if Jr. can't sustain a decent attack then he's just a novice kid! I watched each fight one fight and I'm amazed that their both considered top ten fighters. :boxing: Ray.
some people don't realize that this is all mind games being played by Chavez' camp. it's the same **** with the 2 pound catch-weight for Pacquiao Cotto. It wasn't a physical advantage in the ring, it was a mental advantage that Pacquiao carried over Miguel all throughout his training camp and up to the weigh-in that he had to make a weight lower than what he's used to.
roach's fighters are ALWAYS involved in DIRTY **** like this
You're an idiot. Anyone who has ever cut weight before knows how much 2lbs can hurt. Look at aguy like Rios for example, or looks like **** even when he DOESNT make weigh. Imagine asking him to come down 2 lbs below the required limit. That's a death sentence when he can barely make the first limit.
The torture these guys put themselves through to effectively cut the weight - they have to endure more of it in order to shave off that extra 2 lbs. Usually, to be safe, they have to shave off 3.
WTF, these are world renowned boxing glove companies, the weight of the glove should be exactly the stated. Kinda surprised in that regard, have they no quality control?
Also, what respective brand is each fighter using?
I agree it doesnt even make sense. 10 oz gloves should weigh 10 oz! not 9.7 not 9.4 not 9.9.....F*CKING 10 OZ!!!

If this was someone else then you might say ah big deal they just didnt pay any attention when preparing his gloves. But this is the guy who has already tested positive for diuretics, gains 21 pounds by fight night and conveniently skipped out on his post fight drug test last fight. Cheating again, not a surprise.
Well done by Martinez' camp for busting this filthy cheater yet again.
Martinez gloves weighed in .2 less
This was an unfortunate post.
I'd be a bit embarrassed.
Why is that.
Exactly.
The smaller the gloves, the greater the punching advantage.
Well if you, like others in this thread, actually read my OP and realized i'm talking about the importance of weighing gloves which most people downplayed during the Lee debacle perhaps you would have understood the point of the thread. Martinez was the one who wanted them weighed and has demonstrated his integrity, something Chavez has never had on display.
a better title would be Martinez gloves weighed 9.5oz
if you was trying to make a point.
Exactly.
The smaller the gloves, the greater the punching advantage.
2 ounces is the differential between the gloves that guys who weigh 118lbs and 200lbs use. 0.5 of an ounce is 1/4 the weight differential seperating 8oz and 10 oz gloves so for two fighters in the same weight class wearing gloves that are half an ounce off its a pretty significant advantage.
This was an unfortunate post.

Well done by Martinez' camp for busting this filthy cheater yet again.Martinez' camp did not bust Chavez for cheating because he did not cheat and Martinez's gloves were lighter than Chavez's gloves. The glove makers can't make each glove weigh exactly 10 ounces. I have bought many boxing gloves of different brands for punching the heavy bag and weighed them on an accurate scale. They are always off abit. Sometimes heavy, sometimes light. A fraction of an ounce is no big deal and not cheating.
Nothing wrong with wanting things to be fair.

Only it's less than half of a half ounce we are talking about here.
.2 is not .5 :lol1:
And sergio's gloves were even less at 9.5 ounces
This what I am saying LOL. They try to make it sound like Team Chavez were doing something fishy with their gloves and martinez gloves were the ones who weighed the less.
Alot of dumb people in this thread. The thread title is meant to be ironic considering Martinez's gloves. I thought that would be rather evident but then again reading is on the decline.

This was the point of the thread made even more clear by this lovely post below
lmfao sounds funny huh, people act like they get to bring personal gloves, they get the company who makes the gloves (grant, Reyes) to make them with their design and the company supply like 8 pairs for them to the comission and then the fighters try them on and pick which glove they want. If their is any inconsistency in the gloves is just cause that how it is, Not boxers trying to be cheaters. Case and point is this situation pretty sure Martinez camp wasnt gonna cheat on the gloves but they thought chavez might or something so had them weighed and theirs weighed less lol.
Stop knit picking people. Lets get back to boxing.
Yes which goes to show how reasonable it is to have them weighed and how easy it is for discrepancies contrary to what most were saying in the Lee fight.
0.2oz would be 1/5th which is approximately 6grams.
Around the weight of a U.S nickel or 2x pennies.
Im talking about Martinez's and how a factory glove can easily weight 0.5 of an ounce under what it's labelled as.
This what I am saying LOL. They try to make it sound like Team Chavez were doing something fishy with their gloves and martinez gloves were the ones who weighed the less.
Yea, martinez basically tried to "cheat more" if you think about it
Not sure why this thread is aimed at making chavez out to be some kind of cheater and leaving out the entire story

Even Freddie said .2 oz don't mean much.
