I was at the Ward-dawson fight, just watched it on tv for the first time right now and announcers were saying demarco-molina was a bad stoppage. really? i thought it was molinas fault 100% for squatting down and covering up. looks like he didnt know what to do in there and thought the ref was right for stopping it. do you guys think it was a bad stoppage?
bad stoppage or not, real boxing fans know why it happened
you blame the ref? really? dude is squatting not doing anything..he's a pro, he should know how to get out of that..if he brain farted, that's on him
HBO thinks it's bad because they had to kill an extra 20mins of airtime
I agree.........

This right here ^^
Molina was shook, probably Demarco's power surpriced him. Demarco only landed two solid lefts and Molina just froze. Molina could have tapped the floor with his glove and he would have gotten that count. He froze, it was his fault not the ref's.

For once this homer is correct.
Anyone saying this is a bad stoppage are wrong frankly.
The shots were not skimming his head or his gloves......they were raining down on top and the side of his head. Who knows how much longer he would of stayed down there taking those shots. Thats why back of the head shots are not allowed.
even if he did manage to get himself out of the crouch he would of been disoriented and would of took bigger shots from De marco.
And to say he was not dazed is a lie.
Is that an actual rule? I've never heard of it, let alone see any refs enforce it...
Yes that is a rule, that isnt usually inforced
I think Paulie was warned against Hatton and Pernell had been warned many times throughout his career
Hell yea it was a bad stoppage, and it was all the refs fault.
Fighters are NOT allowed to bend below the waist, so once Molina bent below Demarco's waist, he is committing a foul and the action must be stopped and the fighters separated, and that fighter warned
But no, the ref let him squat there for like 10 seconds while demarco punched the top of his head and then stopped it

the standing 8 count is much underutilized nowadays and should be employed in situations like that. That being said molina is a prick for squatting and doing nothing giving the ref the freedom to decide his fate. It's definitely molina's fault but better judgement would have called for a standing 8, his eyes weren't glassy, he was moving with defensive alertness and demarco didn't land anything really damaging after the left.
Ok, there is no standing 8 count in pro boxing (mostly). When someone says "standing 8 count" in the pros it means the fighter was held up by the ropes from going down. So its a knockdown even tho the guy is not "down" in the literal term.

Bad bad stoppage. Molina wasn't hurt at all and was crouched down and ducking most of Demarco's punches. He was in an awkward position no doubt but the punches were just skimming off the top of his gloves and barely coming into contact with is head. Refs need to give fighters a chance to regain their composure unless they are clearly out and defenseless - Molina was neither.
How many times have we seen a fighter who's experienced a flash knockdown or several flash knockdowns, but has come back to win the fight or least be competitive? This was a total b.s. stoppage in every way shape or form.
No, the ref was right there, he couldn't have missed the fact that Molina wasn't taking any kind of punishment. What happened to a standing 8 count? That was a horrible stoppage to me, but oh well, not much can be done now. Kind of fucked up to go through a tough training camp and get fucked over like that.
theres no standing 8 count under unified rules...if you separate them, you have to stop it...Molina's fault for not throwing back and looking so awkward....

Exactly.
Everyone keeps saying, "He's a pro, in a world title fight, he deserved more respect". Well, maybe a world level fight should think to take a knee rather than squat on the rope and cover up?
I agree Molina wasn't exactly badly hurt, but he wasn't doing anything to make the referee give him the benefit of the doubt.
It was a stupid decision from Molina, the correct one from the ref.
Molina wasn't in a position of being unable to continue physically, in fact he was fine. He simply made a stupid decision to duck and cover which saw a good 15-20 punches go unanswered and left the ref no choice. All he had to do was move, clinch or take a knee and it wouldn't have happened.
It looked like the roof was collapsing on him for what seemed like a long time I haven't watched the replay, or in 10x slowed down.
But if he was in the right frame of mind he could of at least taken a knee, but he stayed hunkered down like it was hailing baseballs.
You're obviously being bias. They both looked the same at the weigh ins and DeMarco is a skinny dude with big cheeks. Just admit that you're mad cause Molina lost. The fighter didn't do his job so the ref did his.

Admit what? I'm anything but a fan of Molina, not my style of preference, I'm more into defensive fighters. Simply expressing how shitty the stoppage was. While both didn't look good at the weigh in, DeMarco looked far worse.
On top of that, DeMarco looked insanely unhealthy at the weigh in and one thing we all know is...Molina has is a punch, I'm not saying he would have won but his chances were pretty damn good.

it was a correct stoppage, no doubt about that. a fight isnt stopped depending on how hurt a fighter is, its stopped depending on how good a job he does of intelligently defending himself.
squatting down and covering up in the corner with no attempt to clinch, punch back or get of the ropes while punches are raining down isnt intelligently defending yourself at all and forces the ref to stop the fight even if you really isnt all that hurt.
I would have preferred if Reiss had when Molina was bent down seperated them and berated Molina for bending down or Demarco for hitting behind the head just something too get him out then keep an eye on him but in saying that Molina has too take the blame if he was not badly buzzed he should have taken a knee.Bit annoying even though i felt Demarco woulda boxed his way too a decision it would have been exciting and as much as it is his fault i feel bad for Molina he trained hard and had a decent shot at winning but it wasn't too be
