Superb timing, good balance, footwork, I liked his jab & I think his defense is better than its given credit for.
The thing is we need to keep it real, Proksa is tough & hes tricky, his footwork and angles are unorthodox, I thought he landed some good counterpunches actually but the guy simply is not very good. He is scrappy, he leaves himself off balance, his defense is poor though he gave Golovkin some problems until he stopped moving his head & you have to take into account his opposition.
Forget the faded Sylvester this guy has fought & struggled with 3-4 fight novices. Outside of the above the best opponent he has faced is Kerry Hope who he is 1-1 with, who is Kerry Hope? A domestic scene gatekeeper with a 4% K.O ratio....
Reality is this was a mismatch and I said that & said Golovkin brutalises him inside 6, I think most expected it tbh
Should we not wait for Golovkin to fight a live threat at least before saying he beats Dawson, Ward, Sergio, etc?
This is like the whole boxing world raving because a guy beat like Peter Manfredo or something.
Believe me Proksa is not on Macklin/Barker/Murray/Lees level
Maybe not P4P king, but he gets hyped up a lot. Not even necessarily on this forum, but IRL as well. Lee is bigger then Proksa, but I do not believe he is a far superior fighter. Certainly not by a huge margin. Vera is more then capable of pulling an upset, but lets not be mistaken here, he lost to all of the top guys he's faced. Just like Kerry Hope, he's not exactly world-class. (not comparing the two)
Regarding Proksa's loss to Hope, I did not get a chance to watch that fight, but from what I understand, Proksa's eye was swollen in round 3 and he fought 9 rounds with bad vision? Correct me if I'm wrong. And you say he didn't look great in the rematch, but he got the job done. He knocked him out.....where as Lee went the full 12 with Vera. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but at least Proksa avenged his loss and with a stoppage and showed some power.
And you may not like Proksa, and I'm not here trying to overrate him, but he was top 10-15 in the rankings, regardless of whether people think he is good or not.
Personally I think Golovkin beats any top 10 Middleweight and a Martinez-Golovkin match up would be fantastic.....but that's besides the point. The point I'm trying to make is Chavez Jr fought absolutely nobody, besides Lee......who could be classified SOMEWHAT in the same class as Proksa..... yet JCC earned a shot at Sergio........ If Chavez Jr fighting Martinez after one solid win can be justified, certainly Golovkin fighting a guy like Martinez after one solid win can be justified as well. In my opinion, of course.
Chavez Jr has Sergios WBC title does he not? & Chavez vs Sergio makes a lot of sense financially, they are the #1 & #2 ranked middleweights whilst I am not high on Chavez Jr I think you maybe underestimating his opposition a little. There is no doubt in my mind with a draw against Molina and a win & wins over Rubio, Lee, Zbik etc he has fought a lot better opposition than Golovkin & Proksa.
Golovkin vs Geale seems the next in line in a unification bout so hopefully this goes ahead & the winner can face Martinez (I believe Chavez Jr is going upto 168 after regardless). I've got no problem with that though I don't think Geales chin would hold up so we'd still be non the wiser too just how good Golovkin really is going into that.
Cmon if you watch that fight, you know he didnt really lose
Thought it was a close fight that could have gone either way.
Wasn't surprised at all that Hope got the Decision.
Absolutely agree.
Golovkin's a good fighter but he's done nothing to suggest he's the best at MW. Nothing at all.
As you put it, his best win is against a guy who's 1-1 with Kerry Hope.
Cmon if you watch that fight, you know he didnt really lose
Nobody at all thinks Chavez Jr is P4P king or even close....
I'd also say Lee was bigger & better than Proksa and Chavez Jr also holds wins over Rubio & a shoddy win over Zbik & a few other decent Euro level guys.
Many indeed think Sergio Martinez hasn't a great resume himself. Full credit to Chavez Jr for taking this fight because frankly I felt he was running scared of Sergio. Do I think he wins? No. I think Sergio stops him.
Regarding Lees loss to Vera, I think there is a difference between being a prospect, gassing & losing too a tough Vera (who is more than capable of pulling a good upset) than to being nearly a 30 fight seasoned pro and losing to a fighter of Kerry Hopes calibre & not exactly looking great in the rematch.
I'd like to see Golovkin fight Quillin/N'Jikam winner, Macklin/Alcine winner or somebody at least before he calls out Ward, Dawson, Sergio & the likes & people are picking him to win by K.O & such. Hes impressive but how will he look against a solid top 10 at least?

I'd like to see Golovkin fight Macklin.
That would gauge how good he is, IMO.
Geale, Quillen, hell, maybe even Sturm despite coming off a loss.
Sturm would be a massive step up.
Funny you mention that, because besides Andy Lee..........Peter Manfredo is just about the best fighter Chavez Jr beat, and according to most people, JCC Jr is the P4P King.
'Should Golovkin not wait for a live threat before saying he beats Dawson, Ward, Sergio".........well.....JCC Jr came off an Andy Lee win, who is about the same class as Proska, oh and he also had one loss which he avenged...... yet he's ready and earned a fight with Sergio. But not Golovkin?
Oh, the irony........

too bad Pirog pulled out...that would have been a good fight to watch last night
and you're probably right...i've been boxing-deprived for a while now...finally get to see a fight on HBO and it got me excited...been a good long minute
i'd like to see him on there again against stiffer competition...i think the skills are there...it was similar to when i first saw Martinez against Bunema...i thought to myself 'this dude can make some noise in this division'
I'd love to have seen the Pirog fight. I think Pirog's a good fighter also. I picked him to beat Danny Jacobs. That's feel's like so long ago now.
I get the same feeling. August was so slow! I don't know if it's being shown in America but you should try and catch the Ricky Burns-Kevin Mitchell fight on the 22nd of September. Shouldn't be a barnburner but it should be a decent fight.
As for Golovkin, I'm not saying he's a hype job. I do think he's good, he has skills and power. But, I don't think he's as good as a lot of people think he is, at this point.
I'm going to wait until he steps up. I think the Geale fight is the logical fight to have next.
Superb timing, good balance, footwork, I liked his jab & I think his defense is better than its given credit for.

But not Golovkin?

true but i didn't think Proska was complete bum either
US debut, first HBO fight...coulda easily looked like crap but stepped up big time
as far as Kasim, hard to look good against that guy to begin with...he's one of those guys...like Soliman...unless you flatten him, you're not gonna really look that impressive
i remember Ouma making a prime Jermain Taylor look like sh1t too
and yes, Dan...as you can tell, im ready to jump on the wagon :D
Proska not a bum but he is a guy who's 1-1 with Kerry Hope. I don't think beating him is overly impressive. He did what he had to do and it's a start but it's nothing to shout about.
You're right about Ouma, he's a spoiler but he had a losing record in his last 6 or 7 fights going into the fight with Golvokin and he looked truly awful in his last few fights before that.
I think you're jumping on the wagon too early :lol1: I'll join you when he performs at that level when he fights at the top level. I've seen fighters look like ATG potential at his level but look no better than C class at the top level. I know you have too.
i liked what i saw in there...he hasn't done anything to suggest he's the best but if given the chance, i think he can make some MAJOR noise...he's got tremendous power, a wicked jab and a very methodical approach
not to get too far ahead of myself but i think he gives any MW out there trouble...Sergio and Jr included
I think he's looks good but it's easy to look good against the calibur of fighter he's facing.
To be honest, he didn't impress me at all against Ouma.
I'll wait until he steps up before I judge him. I'd like to see him fight Geale or Quillen.
I'm from Argentina and I don't think that Golovkin can beat Ward or Dawson, but yes Martinez because his poor defence and the intencity and power of Gennady
Absolutely agree.
Golovkin's a good fighter but he's done nothing to suggest he's the best at MW. Nothing at all.
As you put it, his best win is against a guy who's 1-1 with Kerry Hope.
GGG can fight he needs to be put in against someone at a higher skill level than he has faced so far to see if he is for real. I think he has a chance to excell.
Proksa would be better off at 154 IMO - In fairness to the guy I think he could make some noise there. The 160lb top middleweights are just too big for him.
Exactly, and same on the GG hysteria. Lets see how he does in his next hbo fight. But disagree about Proksa vs the British middles, all those guys struggled a lot at the Euro level

Yup. Let's be real here, the purpose of this thread is not for TS to talk about how Golovkin impressed but to talk about how sh1tty Proksa is. I mean, he's been doing it for weeks now?
Green K TS for his sneakiness.
LOLOL.....who the hell said he would beat Dawson or Ward??
I can't remember lol I've been reading that much Golovkin crazy talk this evening about Floyd is apparently ducking him, lol
He would beat Martinez, Ward & Dawson lose/they're a toss up
Talks of him fighting Froch, Abraham, Pavlik, Bute (of course GGG wins all these fantasy fights)
Its like woahhh, slow down.
