He has no particular desire to test himself against the very best, such as WBC light-heavyweight champ Roy Jones.
Calzaghe added: "I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money.
"I just want to make sure I never have to work again. I've got mouths to feed and that's the most important thing."

I had heard about this interview, but I always thought it was made up. What fighter in their right mind would admit to such a thing?
According to you no one has won any fights as long as it goes against Calzaghe. I wouldn't say that Kessler dominated Froch but I gave him a clear win. And that actually says a lot considering all the managerial problems Kessler had on top of getting his a$$ kicked by Ward. I have to ask you are you going to the Hall of Fame when Calzaghe gets elected?
nah i'll probably go when sven ottke gets in though.
kessler didn't even beat froch. that was a 7-5 froch or draw type of fight. calzaghe fans of course have kessler dominating that fight to make calzaghe look better just like calzaghe has a win over pavlik because hopkins beat him. i thought froch was a complete and utter fraud going into the kessler fight because of his gift win over dirrell and he beat kessler or at worse got a draw.

You are joking, right? Kessler beat Froch less then three years after he lost to Calzaghe. The two fights were also in the same weight division. And you want to talk about meaningless. Your silly little scenario was over a 28 year period and spanned nine different weight divisions. Geez, you guys are going to bust brain aneurysms when ole Joe gets elected into the Hall of Fame.

Do you know how meaningless that statement is?
Breidis Prescott is the greatest boxer of all time. Here's why: (courtesy of bojangels)
Prescott beat Khan, who beat Maidana, who beat Ortiz, who beat Berto, who beat Quintana, who beat Paul Williams, who beat Sergio Martinez, who beat Pavlik, who beat Jermain Taylor, who beat Hopkins, who beat Tarver, who beat Roy Jones, who beat Ruiz, who beat Holyfield, who beat Tyson, who beat Larry Holmes, who beat Ali.
Therefore Breidis Prescott beats Ali

Bute couldn't take Froch's shots, it's nothing to do with avoidance. When he got hit, he got hurt.
Calzaghe could take a good punch, we saw that enough times during his career.
Home advantage is huge in boxing, greater than any other sport but Calzaghe still got it done when he was past his prime and yet all some want to do is bash him.
Also Hopkins was 42 (not 46), Joe himself was 38 or so, age is hardly relevant unlike the Hopkins/Dawson fight.
I like Taylor as a fighter and I give him credit for taking the fights however, the point stands that while they both beat Hopkins Joe never lost his other bouts - Taylor did.
calzaghe got dropped and seriously hurt by kabery salem and byron mitchell. even old geezers hopkins and jones dropped him. i wouldn't say he had the greatest chin, he just didn't fight any great finishers like froch.
the crowd was 99 percent pro calzaghe and so were the commentators and judges who thought calzaghe won round 2 while landing zero punches. what an advantage for hopkins!
calzaghe was 36. he keeps getting older and older every time his fans talk about him.
joe never lost his other bouts but who were they against? taylor fought the much better fighters hence he lost more. that's like saying chris john is better than pac because they both beat marquez but john didn't lose any of his other fights.
i'm not going down the triangle route. i'm going down the style route. bute fights completely square just like calzaghe and he couldn't avoid froch's shots because of it. calzaghe might have a better chin than bute but he has even worse defense.

Ok so you say he fought B-Hop 8,000 miles from home like that's some big deal but think nothing of the fact that Hopkins was 46 years old or of how utterly shot Roy Jones was? Then you mention Reid, Mitchell, Lacy, Bika, like they were some great opponents? Oh yeah you have no bias at all:loser:
'like that's some big deal'? how many times did Bernard Hopkins travel 8,000 miles to a foreign country, with a foreign ref in his career?
You only have to look at the reluctance of the US fighters to head to Russia or the Ukraine to fight so-called 'paper' champions to know how hard fighting away from home is, hell most of them won't even come to the UK never mind Eastern Europe.

Jones was shot but Jones was a drugs cheat anyway, so the so-called prime version doesn't mean a lot to me.
taylor fought a better version of hopkins than calzaghe twice, prime winky, prime pavlik twice, prime abraham, and prime froch. calzaghe fought prime lacy(bum) and prime kessler and a whole load of tomato cans. you should give credit to taylor for being a fighter and taking risks unlike calzaghe. yeah he lost most of the time but at least he fought. you don't get credit for avoidance.
None of the guys Taylor beat were beating Calzaghe and better still none of them were prepared to come to the UK to fight the champion. Pavlik still won't come to fight Froch.

Anyone else in tears of laughter at Daggum's posts on this page?
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
like this one
hopkins wouldn't let calzaghe hit him with his wide inaccurate punches. still lost. hopkins landed all the clean punches and buckled calzaghe 5 times in the fight. still lost. calzaghe is that good!
:lol1:
roy was slightly past prime. eubank was still a beast when calzaghe fought him.
eubank is somewhere in the top 50 atg
Slightly past prime huh? Do you really believe that? I mean come on dude. I know people will say crazy things but come on. That's like saying Toney is slightly overweight or Calzaghe only defended against guys slightly out of the top ten.
That's like saying Manfredo only slightly came close to dying from that whirlwind of punches.
Or saying Calzaghe only slightly destroyed what would of been Tocker Pudwells HOF career.

You do with some fans. I swear they would rather have their favorite fighter avoid challenges then take the risks and actually lose. That way their ideology is intact and they feel better.
"Boxing is a business"
Remember? Or is that excuse only good for certain fighters?
if it makes money it makes sense! unless it makes too much money then it's senseless to fight! the great floyd mayweather at work.
Yea am much as I like Joe C he made it clear he never wanted RJJ when he was in his prime, He gladly stayed at home until it was safe to take the challenge and make a lot of money abroad with BHop and RJJ, I alway thought Joe C would beat a prime RJJ but if the fighter himself doesn't really believe in himself then who am I to believe in him.
