He would have lost anyway but Cortez ensured he got KTFO. Cortez is bent though. He let Hopkins do what he wanted against Calzaghe in what was largely passive grabbing to reduce Calzaghe's workrate.

Ricky got away with wrestling and holding for so long that he thought he was entitled to it

I've watched this fight many mnay times. Cortez was a bit over zealous in the first three rounds, then settled down and let them do their thing. He kept breaking them mostly because Mayweather was ducking under Hatton's telegraphed left hook and they kept ending up "shoulder-to-armpit". The problem was Hatton kept charging in without having any idea what to do once he closed the distance. All I heard before the fight was: "what's Floyd gonna do when Hatton mauls 'im" and "Hatton's an animal and he's gonna be on Floyd's chest, roughing 'im up like he did to Tzsyu. No way Floyd will knock Hatton out, if Tzsyu couldn't do it.....". Hatton thought he'd be stronger, he thought he'd be tougher, but he under-estimated Mayweather's inside game and his capacity to play dirty (yes, he does). Rounds 1-4 Hatton got outfoxed, rounds 5-9 Hatton got outfought and outboxed and round 10 he got KTFO. People here slating Cortez (with good reason) haven't said much about Hatton's cheerleaders, Dave Parris and Mickey Vann standing aside while Hatton split Stevie Smith's eye with any elbow and deliberately low blowed Tzsyu amongst other things. Hatton also got away with hugging Juan Urango to death without a single point deduction. Hatton said it himself: It ain't a tickling contest.

The Lorenzo was probably the worst call Cortez has ever made by far on top of many more. Soto got robbed of a W that night. Cortez is garbage!

Floyd definately fought a weaker hatton than everyone else did. Hatton was allowed to fight all his other opponents the hatton way, so why was Floyd given preferential treatment? Cos Floyd had a word with the ref before the fight about hattons so called dirty tactics. Floyd always gets a pass and easier fight. Hatton certainly wouldnt have got Ko;ed if it wasnt for Cortez. Floyd never stopped talking about the ref in the build-up to the fight, he knew the ref would be crucial even with Hatton stepping up in weight. Ricky trusted Cortez to let him fight after the Castillo bout, bad move, money talks.

Can someone explain the blatant inconsistency between Cortez's performance in the Hatton vs Mayweather and the Calzaghe, Hopkins fights?
