Where do you rank Harry Greb?

No one "sh1tting" on fighters we get to see, how is saying that Greb is top 5 based on resume "sh1ting" on modern fighters?. Do you believe that Ryan Bailey's a greater athlete than Jesse Owens? after all Bailey would obliterate him in a race and secondly if I called Jesse Owens the greatest athlete of all time would I be "sh1tting" on modern sprinters like Bolt, Bailey or Blake? Don't mind him, other than floyd's nuts he don't know much about the sport.

I can't rank him because I have never seen the guy fight. Rankings are resume AND ability. Remember that. The way RJJ is the most gifted boxer of all time. He has nowhere near the ATG'est resume. So his RANKING is lower than it could have been. Greb has without a doubt a top 10.....**** closer to a top 5 resume EVER but I have not seen the guy throw a significant punch so I have no clue if his ability along with his resume will allow me to rank him.

That "shoulder roll" that peeps are creaming their jeans over dates back to the 1940s. Floyd doesn't really do anything that's new ffs. Poet & mayweather does the shoulder roll more impressive then anyone I've ever seen (besides prime toney) mayweathers roll is perfected to his style.......thats not the impressive part about mayweather to me. I like the way he can anticipate a punch & make you miss with cat reflexes (mixed up with the defense) as their style progresses each fighter does their own little things thats "new" boxers have their own little traits in which you can easily pick them out of the bunch.........i can't even find a fighter that has 70% of alis style (all of my years watching the sport) & when a fighter looks very close to another fighter it's beyond rare............. thats like saying basketball players do nothing "new" from the past (as a game no. because the game remains the same. score points) but as a individual yes. can you find me a past player that looked like Michael jordan? maybe you're able to find 1 or 2 traits but no where near jordans complete style (& nine times out of 10 those 1 or 2 traits really doesn't look like the way jordan did it) even in a video game....when you play with jordan you know it's meant to be him. you know that it's meant to be his uniqueness & style.............. so in closing mayweather does do things "new" that separates him from other fighters. it's what makes him recognizable as mayweather........

not if the sport loses popularity and talent, which boxing certainly has. Let us not forget many trainers didn't get to share all of their knowledge before they died either. Or their knowledge was spread out through so many fighters that it got diluted or forgotten when fighters felt it wasn't necessary when they taught other fighters. I think boxing is fascinating in that sense. To think guys from 100 years ago could be competitive today is jaw dropping and interesting to think about. The basic principles are all there. Floyd Mayweather doesn't do anything different then those guys did either.

that's what undoubtedly seals his greatness for me. there's no way he was a bum in order to be able to do that. no way. no way is greb a "bum" thats not what some people are arguing. greb is a ATG. but i will never be able to put him in my top 5. (& i don't understand where the outrage is coming from) my top 5 robinson armnstrong pep joe louis ali these are all fighters who have massive resumes & have the footage to match..........why would someone get angry because of this (not talking about you) but for the people who do. grebs just not a top 5 ATG for me...........

What if greb was the past equivalent to today's Charlie zelenoff people will look at zelenoffs resume 100 years from now and see mayweather on it and start putting zelenoff @ #1 p4p goat.... I'm just trolling The fighters from old set the blue print to how we box today. as time goes on techniques change and there's evidence of it today go back to the amateur days when Ali was in the Olympics no one danced around the ring nowadays every amateur is on his toes bouncing around it's just the way it is. I won't be surprised if the shoulder roll is what everyone will learn in years to come

Yeah, I still have belief there is some Greb footage out there. Unlikely, I know. But I'm a dreamer :lol1: 20 or so years ago there were rumours that footage of Greb-Walker was around. Whether or not they were true or not, who knows. I know Jim Jacobs said he didn't have any in his archive. I believe it was Jacobs who had the sparring footage we see here, in his archive until it was released also around 20 or so years ago, give or take. I hope one day, we get to see some. I'd love to see the Tunney fights. Imagine if they accidentally taped tysons sparring sessions over it >.<

its all about preserving history & culture. A lot of these old school vanguards love to put these guys we have never seen fight before in some ridiculous pedestal just so they can preserve their history & culture. If you look at who is the greatest athletes in every sport, the consensus greatest always comes from modern time. Its always the modern athlete (1970 & up imo). Track & field: From Jim thorpe to jesse owens to car lewis to usain bolt. Tennis: From Rod Laver to Bjorn Borg to Pete Sampras to Roger Federer Basketball: From George Mikan to Wilt to Dr. J to Bird & Magic to MJ Baseball From Ty cobb to Babe Ruth to Mickey Mantle/Willie Mays to Griffey/Barry Bonds Football: From otto graham to bart starr to Johnny unitas to montana/marino/elway to brady/brees/manning The consensus greatest always comes in modern time not someone from the damn 1910s, 20s, & 30s. This is true not just in sports but in almost all aspects of life. A special forces soldier these days is deadlier than a special forces soldier in ww1. Its called the passage of time. It gives you knowledge of the previous time to improve upon. Harry Greb=Babe Ruth=George Mikan White athletes who were great because black athletes were not playing yet & those who played were at a severe disadvantage due to racial politics. If you notice as civil rights were slowly being given to african americans, the number of great african american athletes increased while the number of great white athletes decreased. doesnt have to be in HD but footage would be nice period well we don't have that. its boxing's holy grail for a reason. we got the next best thing in footage of guys he's fought to gauge how good he might have been, on greb's site, and on youtube using boxrec as a tool if you've got the time.
