Where you guys draw the line and when do national pride takes over in this specific cases in a boxing match?
Today I was just checking out this article where they have the preview of the video of the FACE OFF on Olé, one of the most popular newspapers in Argentina, I tought it will be cool to know the level of boxing knowledge down there and what they think about the fight.
Looking at the comments , and also the facebook comments of the article… It came to my mind all the mexicans that are supporting Martinez on NSB.
The comments didn’t anger me or anything… me being Mexican and all, I know most people act like this on the internet, so you just have to laugh at what they think or say.
Here are some of the comments

EDIT... I erased this image because of the nature of the comments, you can search for them in the standard comments section of the article, not in the facebook comments

The article on Olé:

So my question to the mexicans that want Martinez to win… after reading a sample of the comments with the collage I pasted in 15 minutes and it could have been even more, because obviusly there were more comments like this.
Do you guys are still rooting for Martinez?
And with this I’m not saying Martinez Fans on NSB think or act this way, they are cool cats to debate with.
This thread is just meant to be informative and nothing more, because it will give the mexican fans on NSB that are still undecided on who to root for or want a Martinez victory, another perspective about the fight come September 15th.
Many of my favorite boxers are not mexican, but I still have a biased when a mexican fighter is on the ring, and boxing has been feeding with this sentiment for all of his history, national rivalries, etc. but all in good sport, not saying nonsense **** like the fans on this article.
I wonder if one of my favorite foreign boxers where to fight a mexican fighter, and I stumble with an article like this… I will want the mexican to win just to piss them off, and like I said at the beginning, where you guys draw the line and when do national pride takes over in this specific cases in a boxing match?
Argentine fans suck. The fact that there trying to support martinez now
is a joke.Even maidana has more fans then martinez over there.
Either way,Whoevers wins between them will make them a huge star.
Bro, I was in Buenos Aires about a year-and-a-half ago...they are some of the most beautiful women I've seen anywhere. :beerchug:
They definitely are. That accent alone turns me on, then they look like angels on top of that.
Argentinian girls are hot.

I'm Mexican and I don't support Chavez Jr, I think he's just a spoiled kid who has been given special privileges just because he's the son of a legend.
BTW I don't care about what most Mexicans or Argentinians say, most of the guys who comment on facebook don't know anything about boxing, they just care about nationalities and if they hear that Chavez Jr is the best then they defend him till the end even if they haven't seen him fight before. The same applies to Martinez's fans.
I will be rooting for Martinez in this fight because I really like his unorthodox style, I think he's a great boxer and a great human being by promoting campaigns to stop bullying and against the mistreating of women, so I hope that he wins on September 15.
This whole time I was posting from my phone and didn't get to see your avatar. But now that Im on my computer and see what your avatar looks like, I stick by my initial post that you're just trolling or trying to start so me sh1t for ppl to dislike Sergio. :bukkake:

To me, I feel like TS is trying to start some sh1t. Who gives a fk about the fans? This ain't about them, this is about the fighters. If it was for the fans I wouldnt like half of the fighters in boxing. Pacquiao being one of them.

Really, how?
I just found this will be an interesting exercise on where national pride takes over in a boxing match.
How? Like i said who gives a sh1t about what his fans said. Did the fighter come out and say it? No. There's no reason to dislike a fighter cause of his following.

nothing more than retarded nationalistic fans. it's no different than the chavez trolls on here, just a different website. obviously on here there are rules that prevents trolls to spew racist stuff, but over there, it's just an uncensored version of what punks on here would be saying if there were no rules. comments/views on the internet should not even be looked at seriously, any idiot can hide behind a computer screen and say anything he wants. i mean it's not martinez or his camp saying it themselves, so who cares. let idiots be idiots?
I'm not saying that, but I wanted to know what will be the effect of those comments on boxing fans, well.... Martinez Mexican fans.
If for example, Calzaghe... one of my all time faves were still active, and had to fight a mexican fighter, and I read stuff like that... in my case without a doubt I will support the mexican fighter just to piss those guys off, and It will pain me a lot to root against Joe, but that's who I am, my national pride will take over me in that fight.
I get what your saying, but it's not Sergio that is saying that. So I'm still a fan, now if Sergio would come out and spew all sorts of negative stuff about Mexico and Mexicans, that we are lazy and have no class, (cuz that's the one thing that boils my blood is when people say Mexicans are lazy) and threw the Mexican flag on the ground ala Hopkins, then you bet I would want Chavez to put a hurting on Martinez, it would suck but it's the truth, now would I become a fan of Chavez? No, I wouldn't but I would stop being a fan of martinez
This has nothing to do with Sergio Martinez. If it was Sergio who said that stuff then yeah it would definitely affect how I view him. Idiots always talk shit no matter where they come from. Don't get it twisted Argentina isn't the only country that does this.
Nationalism always plays a huge role in who you go for. This is a problem I've always had with my dad whenever we watch boxing, he always roots for the Mexican fighter no matter what, and always shit talks or critiques the boxer the Mexican is fighting. And he also admits that fights that don't involve Mexican fighters don't interest him, for example Pacquaio vs Mayweather. That's the difference between me and him I love boxers that have styles that interest me. I don't care where they're from or what they look like.
However gross or disrespectful they may be, the hostility of Argentinian fans does not bother me one bit, so long as they truthfully support Sergio.
Lets see them travel to watch the match, buy the ppv, etc..
I'm taking a day off, and buying the PPV to support Chavez Jr. That alone speaks for itself in regards to National Pride.
So because all these Argentinians are idiots and only support Martinez because he is from Argentina, I should act like a complete idiot and change my mind and root for Chavez because he is Mexican?
Naw, that's ok I'll just rather support the boxer that came up the hard way and paid his dues and has earned his spot at the top.

Man I bet you that if Martinez loses, all those people there would throw Martinez under the bus. I mean comon if it happens here on a boxing website where we are the ones that should kniw better, what makes you think all those idiots wouldn't do them same that are casuals, not only that I bet you all of them are newbs lol
Not trying to offend any Argentine here but they always been this way. They are real ****y and they are better than everyone else. I'm not saying every one of them is like that but thats how the majority are. I watch soccer so I'm used to them.

Whether you want to or not, you're going to offend many Argentineans with those remarks. Saying you don't mean everyone but "the majority" doesn't make things better. This is a slippery slope we're climbing here.
Fans can't make you like a fighter, but they can certainly make you hate one. I'm definitely in agreement on that point. In this particular case, I can understand why some Mexican fans of Sergio would start to view him in a different light. Not that "Maravilla" has a hand in this nonsense, but it's human nature. It's sort of a "kill the messenger" effect.
Because many mexicans support Martinez to beat Chavez...
And it's really clear that the majority of the Argentinians that will watch the fight want Martinez to killed the mexican, like we saw in this article.
So I tought it will be interesting to know what the Mexicans that support Maravilla think about this.
So because all these Argentinians are idiots and only support Martinez because he is from Argentina, I should act like a complete idiot and change my mind and root for Chavez because he is Mexican?

i suppose it could, but I've got two dogs in this fight. i like both fighters, all i want is a good scrap.
This is the kind of answers that I wanted when I created this topic.
It will be a good scrap I'm sure of that, and I can't wait for September 15th
I know... I'm not naive about the nature of some people, and it just not really affect me, it makes me laugh lol.
But in the context of a boxing match, could specific cases like this make you change your pick on who to root for on fight night?
i suppose it could, but I've got two dogs in this fight. i like both fighters, all i want is a good scrap.

Why doest this surprise you? Havent you seen the stupid internet wars before? They do this kind of stuff all the time.
It doesn't surprise me at all really, but instead of Argentinians just attacking Chavez character, they go on with all the mexicans.
And I wanted to know what mexican martinez supporters think about this.
