I think Moreno will do well in the early rounds, mostly out-boxing Mares from the outside. Mares will have some moments early with some flurries though. Mares' pressure will start to get to Moreno by round 5 or 6 and he will begin to walk through Moreno and finish him with a stoppage somewhere between round 8 and 10.
A lot will probably disagree, but I am really hoping that Mares stomps out boring ass Moreno, boxing needs more people like Mares, willing to go to war and fight anybody. Warrrrr Mares!

mares will have his moments on the first 4-5 rounds... he will be eventually be frustrated of moreno's movement and ring smarts which will result to even more frustration due to moreno's counter punching... watch for low blows on the 2nd half of the fight from mares as he gets desperate to land a big one on moreno... moreno by clear UD...
Moreno is going to look great and win 9 clear rounds. I like to watch Mares, but I don't think he's any better than good, maybe pretty good.
And I disagree that Moreno is boring.
agree 100%

Ironic comment. Considering your avatar.
I have more respect for Mares than most current boxers. This guy doesnt just talk about it but he actually fights the best possible opponents. Nonetheless I think Moreno wins this fight.
As I have said before, I'd like to see Mares take a slightly extended break or at the very least a stay busy-easy/meaningless fight. The guy has been in 5 consecutive pressure-packed, physically and mentally draining fights (all going the distance). It's got to take a toll on the body and mind.
Mares wins. Pressures Moreno from the opening bell and stops him late. Why do people always think the better technical boxer wins? It's not always the case.
Because I can appreciate a fighter who can hit and not get hit, and that's exactly Moreno's style. I don't think Mares has the power to stop Moreno, and I don't think he'll land enough to break Moreno down.

Aside from Vic being a common opponent that Moreno did much better against there are some style and stance comparisons that apply to a Mares/Moreno fight. Against Mares Vic fought off his back foot as a counter puncher but only countered with single power punches usually the left cross and uppercut.
Moreno is taller with way better defense and footwork than Vic. In general he's a better counter puncher but more important he throws combinations and uses a much wider varity. One big question is power as part of Vic's success may have come from dropping Mares and getting his respect but i do think Moreno's power along with his superior and frustrating counter punching ability will be capable of doing the same.
I'll bet on Moreno but Mares has the style to give him a lot of problems. Most people probably think of Mares as a straight up brawler but he's more technical than people realize, he has very good timing, proper balance and leverage and he's fundamentally sound. He'll force Moreno to fight at a faster pace than usual, and he'll bring a methodical pressure. It's gonna be more action packed than people expect.
Mares is fundementally sound and alot more than a brawler but i'v always thought one of his biggest problems is he overestimates his boxing ability on the outside. Against Perez it was switching from a pressure style to boxing him mid fight that caused him to lose almost all the rounds in the second half of the fight causing the draw.
He's a capable boxer but he's a better pressure fight who is very good on the inside. If he embraced this as his identity inside the ring i think he would be alot better and against Moreno he'll get outclassed if he tries to box with him.
Considering how many already rank Donaire in the top 5 p4p (because of some flashy KO's), I would agree with you that the winner of Mares - Moreno could be considered top 10 p4p. However, I don't think Donaire should be in yet (and if you want to put him in, i can't see him being higher than 9 or 10). IMO, the winner of this fight should fight Donaire, and the winner of that fight is definitely top 10 p4p.
P4P gets thrown around too easily recently of fighters not really deserving.
When a guy defeats the best fighter at every weight class he's fought, he is definitely top 10, if not top 5
112- Darchinyan (regarded as the best at 112)
115- Narvaez (yes, he moved up but lets face it, the result would have been the same at 115)
115- Marquez - interim
118- Montiel (regarded as the best at 118)
122- Nishioka (regarded as the best at 122)
Pepper that with some names like Hernan Marquez and Mthalane, both of which have proven to be quality fighters.
Now, adding a victory of Mares or Moreno would simply confirm it, but i dont think he needs to do it just to prove he's top 10. He's top 10 based on his existing resume.
If Nonito goes on to face the top guy at 126 (which I think is pushing it), I wouldnt give a rats ass if he didnt fight Rigondeaux, Mares or Moreno, 2 of which are not with his promotional company.
But if he stays at 122, he definitely needs to fight one of those aforementioned names
Can't wait for this fight.
The winner of this is a Top 10 P4P'er. IMO.

Mares first day of sparring today. (I'm at the gym now) Mares is very motivated for this fight.

cool, he looks strong. i think he is physically stronger than moreno. for mares to win this fight, he will need to impose this on moreno. controlled pressure will be the key, not wild pressure (getting inside with his jab vs. just flying in with wild hooks), but consistent pressure while continuing to box and rough him up on the inside.
I'm going with my guy Mares. I like them both, but I believe Mares is more durable & I think he'll impose his size on Moreno as the fight wears on & work himself into a mack truck & take over in the 2nd half of the fight.
Why do you think this? How has he proven to be more durable than Moreno? Don't think it matters that much anyway since Mares is a lot more hittable than Moreno.
Thats what im saying. Moreno has done sht besides beat vic and siderenko a euro bum. And gone life and death twice against cermeno
LOL you obviously haven't seen those fights.
moreno schools him but gets robbed since they're in cali. can't see it going any other way. i like mares, but i just don't think he's capable of defeating chemito. we'll see what happens when it actually happens though. looking forward to it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say mares wins a very controversial decision victory, possibly a robbery. After the agbeko low-blow fiasco, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a little extra 'help' from the officials.
